Metroid Prime: Trilogy discontinued in UK
"Limited availability", just like they said.
Nintendo's excellent Metroid Prime Trilogy has been discontinued in the UK, which means shops are being given no more stock to sell.
Soon, the only place you'll find a copy is the second-hand market.
"Unfortunately, Metroid Prime Trilogy is no longer being shipped," Nintendo told Coffee with Games (via VG247). "Having said that, you may be able to find what you seek through the second-hand videogame market.
"When first introduced, it was announced that there would be limited availability. However, a reason for this was not announced."
Quick; our Metroid Prime Trilogy review explains why.

Seriously though, you'd think that with the criticism Ninty has taken over the Wii and their "abandoning" the core gamer they'd keep the likes of Metroid going rather than continuing to invest money in very samey mini-game packs. On the other hand, it could be little more than a ploy to drive demand in Metroid in the run up to an announcement of another similar title, I guess we'll never know the real reason behind this rather strange decision.

If only I was rich this wouldn't be a problem.

I'm glad I bought it, it's one of only two Wii games I actually bothered to finish (the other being SSBB which only took one day).

There never seemed to be many copies in circulation even when it was released.

Ok, I take that as them giving their blessing to me, I'll still buy new Xbox and PS3 games of course until MS and Sony say it's ok.

Of course it's not down to that - you don't just stop selling a product like Metroid Prime Trilogy not long after release because the sales have been slow. Also, lets face it, Metroid Prime Trilogy has sold a hell of a lot more than most other games on Wii - I mean Wii Music was disappointing for Nintendo but that's still being sold.
It's simple - it's probably the only "collector's edition" of anything that is actually a collector's edition. It's an actual limited numbers release but they didn't state that fact until now so it was actually bought by gamers and people who want to play it rather than those who would just keep it in its box to appreciate in value or sell on ebay at inflated prices.
If you're a gamer and you have this in your collection you can now feel privilidge you have a rare Nintendo title that you haven't had to pay through the roof for on ebay.

Not really - it hardly sold shit loads did it?

Shame to hear they are discontinuing the game though, it was one of the better games for the wii.

Why can't they try to do both and keep pumping out as much of hardcore games as they can? Dropping limited run of MT is not helping with their weak rep. They should support great games as much as they can, as others said they still do with other games THAT sold less!

Why the panic now?"
I won't be buying a Wii until the Wii HD is released because I refuse to pay AU$300 for a slim gamecube.
I can either buy the trilogy now and have it sit in a drawer for 2 years or wait and pay 3x the current store price. Either way it's stupid.

Other than that, desperate as I am, I quickly ordered Metroid Prime Trilogy from here so as not to miss out due to Nintendo and their odd decisions. They have the best price according to GamesTracker.com.

How is the article wrong? It doesn't say you can no longer buy, it says that it's been discontinued and there will be no new stock. And what are you talking about with a 'limited edition' version? There is only one version of the trilogy and that's the collector's edition - there is no vanilla version.
I'm annoyed with myself for not buying it last November when GAME were selling it for £18. Have to splash out at least £30 for it now.

It's an odd move, surely after having made the games, printing new copies is the easy part? I mean, a lot of games must suffer from poor sales, but developing something only to make 3 months' worth of copies seems a waste. Wonder if they'll one-up the New Play Control/Resident Evil touch-ups and recycle the same gen's titles with some type of MotionPlus re-release (which would mean a re-release of a re-release, but this is Nintendo after all)
