LBP 1.02 patch sorts out dodgy song
Religious intolerance defeated!
It's patch city and LittleBigPlanet's the mayor! After this morning's news of a 1.01 patch, heroic reader Luke informs us that 1.02 is now available.
This one does neuter Tourmani Diabaté's song "Tapha Niang", silencing the two lyrics borrowed from the Qur'an, putting the game into the state it will presumably be when you all get hold of it in two weeks' time. In actual fact, it removes the entire vocal track, leaving a pleasant instrumental.
There's no word on what else the patch does, but then you won't notice, since the game isn't out yet. Unless you're in the secret club, obviously, in which case you can join us sulking about how the game servers aren't online yet.
Check out our LittleBigPlanet review to keep your eyes on the prize.

If this patch fixes all the outrageous religious slurs, why did Sony insist on recalling all the disks?

Much like I'm sure there's a few out there with hdtv's who never bothered adjusting the display accordingly in settings

Will play it unpatched first when it arrives to experience the game as it was intended. But it really makes me mad that other people think they should determine what is proper for me to listen to in my own fucking home.

I want to know exactly who triggered this ridiculous situation and flagged this song issue as a "problem".

I took it as tongue in cheek, but n_nlemon's comment still holds about the whole sorry affair, imo.

That should read 'religion' IMO.

Plus all of this BS is great publicity for the game.

The real religious intolerance is the kinds of comments articles about religion produce. You should really be ashamed of yourselves, though I know you're not.

I hope you're not serious. Nobody is suggesting we should force religious people to stop being religious or that they should change their beliefs. Don't think you can or should get any more tolerant towards religion than that. How is saying "listen chap, you can believe all you want but don't force your beliefs on me" religious intolerance?!
As for the ones that use muslims as a synonym for foreigners, that's not religious intolerance, that's xenophobia. Which might be even worse as it's about as irrational as religion is.

Probably because their arabian is about as good as mine coupled with not having memorized all q'uran verses and a little bit of not being brought up by religious fanatics... But you can be assured that for quite some time Western developers will not use any arabian song in a game anymore...

Some of you act as if you had a right to hear that track unaltered in the game. You don't. However and whenever Sony release the game, the product is theirs for your consumption. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Don't act as if you've been wronged.

For me it's not so much about not being able to hear the vocals (though I must say I quite like the song as it is). I think it's principally wrong to curb freedom of speech by religious intolerance. Restricting fundamental human rights is very serious indeed and IMO much more negative than people being offended because they believe they've been instructed to be offended and who could always choose to not buy the product.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
It's laughable to think this is even remotely a human rights issue.

i'm rational, non-religious and have read the koran, but it's ignorant pricks like you that sour the word 'atheist'.

You're mixing up a couple of things:
1) Given that we live in the world we live in where many people believe crazy things and many other people act like it's completely normal, could we blame a company from removing perceived offensive stuff from a game in order to maximize the appeal of the game and thus profits? No, not really.
2) Is it a good thing that people believe crazy things which leads to them being offended when nobody has even the slightest intent to offend them? I'd say no.
3) Can we change this? Possibly, but pretending that (self)censorship is a good won't really get us anywhere.
But anyway, got my uncensored copy in the mail yesterday and loving it very much. Furthermore, this game has accomplished the unfathomable task of getting my girlfriend to grab a PS controller and actually loving it.
