Kane & Lynch 2 beta for Xbox 360

Update: news of PC, PS3 samplers soon.

Update: Square Enix has been in touch to tell Eurogamer that PC and PS3 demos are still very much part of the plan.

"There will be news on a Kane & Lynch 2 PS3 and PC demo at a later date," a spokesperson from the publisher told us.

Original story: Square Enix is offering an Xbox Live demo of Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days to anyone who becomes a friend of the game's official YouTube page.

If you do, you'll be sent a token that can be exchanged for a demo of the campaign, arcade and multiplayer modes.

The demo goes live on 1st July for a limited period of time. These tokens will only be offered to a limited number of people.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be released on 27th August on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Check out Eurogamer's hands-on impressions of the game from May for an idea of what to expect.

Is this because the game isn't very good? I've obviously not played it and have no idea if its any good or not, but if it was brilliant, surely they'd want as many people as possible to play the demo......
  • makariel #3 2 years ago

what's the reasoning to make a demo with very limited availability? alienate your customers?
  • captain_Carl #4 2 years ago

So they're basically telling us not to buy it?

Okay. Thanks for the advice, SE
  • riceNpea #5 2 years ago

    you're welcome to it
  • NewbieZilla #6 2 years ago

Wonder if any loss of employment will result from the reviews for this game.
  • VoodooCharlie #7 2 years ago

LMAO, judging by the first game I'd rather have a dose of the clap. No thanks

"Access to demo only exclusive to Xbox 360 owners who will join the Kane & Lynch youtube page, and only of which are women who have blonde hair, have green eyes and must have alopecia."

    Dear God No.

I'd rather have my kneecaps replaced with hot toffee apples.
  • BillyBrush #10 2 years ago

It's just an early access thing. Am sure it'll hit Live + PSN shortly thereafter.

Some gamers need little encouragement to start hating things

I just have to say that I love you guys... saying bad things about games we haven't played yet... it makes us look so cool.

Its almost if they want EVEN less people to play this. I have zero intention of buying this game, a good demo may have changed my mind (a review of this particular game may be a little suspect)

"once again its proven that if you dont own a 360 this generation your missing out on a lot of the best content"

Don't you mean a Youtube account in this instance?

Anyway, terrible marketing idea. Almost (but not quite) as bad as the Havana mission in the first game. Ye Gods.

    @Mickey

Owning both cosoles, I would not call K&L missing out, for goodness sake. Thats almost embarrassing.

Maye Uncharted 2 for 360 owners or Mass effect 2 for Ps3 owners is missing out in my vocab.

There is allot of dross by comparison to the above games, namely probably half of them, and K&L is in that bracket

how about putting some links with your news reports? how are we supposed to sign up to the beta if we cant find the page?
  • Mark1412 #18 2 years ago

Put Kane & Lynch 2 into youtube and click on the official fan page?
  • Machiavellian #19 2 years ago

Whats really to hate. The demo is only a limited exclusive so no big deal. I guess you can be happy that you get to play it first since the rest of the world will probably have to wait unit it's released for both consoles.

Also from the people that seem to be hating on the game before they have even played it, you should probably check out some previews of people who have played the game. It sounds like it will be a lot of fun.

    Chortle.

Square Enix read comments, shit brix and change the plan.

The method of getting the demo sounds a bit contrived, but I just watched the 1Up game night footage of this and it actually looked rather good (if a bit gratuitous, just like the first). Who knows, perhaps they'll pull off a surprise with the sequel.
  • VibratingDonkey #22 2 years ago

So if you don't do this, you can't access the demo, ever? I must've missed something.

Limited demos for hugely anicipated games are one thing (not saying it isn't irritating) Limited demos to sequels to shit games that a lot of people aren't thinking of buying - sheer genius.

For the record, this will be an average third-person shooter with silly effects to mask the shallowness of the game, which will sink in after a level or so.

And , yes, I can see into the future.

might as well do something with my youtube account..

Might wonna mention it's UK only:

"If you are over 18 years old, residing in the UK, with a recognized GamerTag you will then receive your token in advance of July 1st via an email from this channel.

This is strictly available to over 18's in the UK & Northern Ireland, and you need to have an Xbox360 in order to activate the token."

"once again its proven that if you dont own a 360 this generation your missing out on a lot of the best content (GTA4 BOGT/LATD), plus the exclusive DLC maps not to mention the greatest , most complete online service. K+ L 1 is an underated gem imo, especially if you bought it quite cheap ( below £20 ) a few months after release. It was very enjoyable, looked great and the early" bank levels" were some of the best set peices in a TPS this gen imo. It was only the last few hours that got boring (havana level+ ) and they made the games flaws stand out even more. the sequel looks promising indeed and like the original the 360 version will again have the best graphics and online multiplayer.(compared to sonys " video games console" ) + yes i own both but i know which one "is where its at " for games/online this gen. "

    Is that you, Greenberg?
  • captainrentboy #28 2 years ago

What's great is that in the time it took you whinging bastards to write up a lil ole moan on here you could've actually gone on Youtube and requested a demo code. Literally took me 20 seconds. :)
  • NewbieZilla #29 2 years ago

    "Literally took me 20 seconds."

A fool and their 20 seconds are soon wasted. (Added time for that spent on said demo)
  • linksdad #30 2 years ago

Tip to publishers: If your first game is critically panned, doesnt sell and is generally crap. Don't make a sequel.

A new IP, even if as bad as the first attempt must be a better bet.
  • makeamazing #31 2 years ago

I would actually say, its better to not restrict your demo, rather than not making a sequel... if your first game wasnt so good and you have faith in your second version... get it out there to as many people as possible. I appreciate they have said that now, but exclusive demos is not in the best interest of publishers or game players.

  • alcides #33 2 years ago

I don't think SquareEnix got that notion about promotional material: as an investment it is only valuable if you make sure it's available to the masses.

OR you charge for it (FFXIII demo)

    @XdarXideX

You're right, maybe some of us are being a tad pre-emptive for a game that hasn't come out yet, but come on, quite a lot of people and critics alike panned the first game. Didn't someone at Gamespot even get sacked for giving it a poor review score (and telling the truth)?

There surely has to be a level of suspicion however, when a games developer puts out an exclusive demo in this way. Surely, with the first game being panned and damned in such a way you'd have expected that the developers would have made this available to all? Something not completely right about this, which is why I say "Dear God No".
  • XdarXideX #36 2 years ago

    @razzastuta

It's not that I don't understand why some people are sceptical of the sequel, but most people act like it's fact that the next game will be terrible. Not only that, but it's pretty obvious a lot of people are complaining about the "exclusive" demo for the sake of complaining. Everyone loves to hate. It's childish.

As for the Youtube account thing and people thinking it's a sign that the game is going to be bad (wtf??)... anyone who's been paying attention will realise the obvious link there. The game has had a major overhaul with the idea in mind to bring it closer to reality. The terms thrown around - "User generated content" as in home-made video/"I just saw this happen and recorded it with my mobile phone" - it's pretty obvious where their marketing department is going with the campaign.

Everyone just needs to chill out and stop bitching about things that take up 20 more seconds of their time IF they want to proceed. If they have no interest in K&L2.. then shut the fuck up, you know!?
