Kane & Lynch 2 dated for August

"Will make people double-take" - IO.

Square Enix has sent word that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be released on 27th August.

IO's sequel - in development for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 - follows the two eponymous criminals through "48 hours of hell".

There's an emphasis on a new documentary-style presentation, plus fresh multiplayer modes Undercover Cop, Cops & Robbers and Arcade. Fragile Alliance will return for K&L 1.

"We believe the unique visuals and relentless gameplay has created an intensity never delivered in a videogame before," said Niels Jørgensen, boss of IO. "In a genre where so many games look and feel the same, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will make people double-take. We think it's going to make quite an impression."

Our Kane & Lynch 2 preview from January will tell you more.

Hmmmm. I'm willing to give IO the benefit of the doubt here since the first Hitman was shit while the second was much more focused and a lot better for it. IO tend to learn from their mistakes so not really going to pass judgement yet.

If we get to Kane and Lynch 3 and its still shit then we have a problem.

Despite most people clearly being disparaging about this, I'm still quite interested. While the first one was rough as hell I saw potential there and it had some great if not fully realised set-pieces. I have hope and faith that Io will address the first game's issues - because it's not as if they weren't well-documented - and give this the level of polish and detail that we came to expect from them with Hitman & Freedom Fighters.

I'm certainly more interested in this than I am Army of Tutu, or, say, Quantum Theory.

The first game is nowhere near as bad as people make out. It did get roughly 7/10 average review scores on meta critic. It's a prefectly enjoyable game with some flaws.

As for the second game given they have taken out all the squad control stuff and turned it into a standard shooter my interest for it is pretty low. I was really hoping in the sequel they might get closer to the standards of the squad control in Freedom fighters which the first game sort of promised but never quite delivered.

well I'm looking forward to it, 1st wasn't the best game (or worst) around but it was enjoyable, even more so on PC.

Very much looking forward to this. I really enjoyed the 1st one, despite its flaws, and IO are one of my all-time favourite developers.

I thought the original Kane & Lynch was a good game - single player and multiplayer wise. It had its flaws of course and its certain IO Interactive has overlooked that and will overcome those flaws and make a damn-fine sequel and that's why they are going in a different direction with this one. Hopefully they are going the right way with it and I have confidence in them and cannot wait to partake in a 'good ole' Fragile Alliance heist this summer.

How did K&L get a sequel? Baffles me, especially in the current climate.
  • CaptainTrips #8 2 years ago

More to the point, will any Gamespot employees want to review this? :p
  • Triggerhappytel #9 2 years ago

    @ CaptainTrips

I'm more interested in seeing whether GiantBomb get sent a review copy! ;)
  • Haloboy #10 2 years ago

It still defies belief that people actually think K&L was a bad game. Oh and plus it did the whole ''let's shoot us some civvies'' long before MW2 ever came about.

Can't wait to be bald and bad all over again.

The first one was very good, got to be the most underrated game ever. Though I mostly blame the Gerstmann affair.

Any game journos going to find themselves out of a job in the aftermath of this one? Well, there is always Giantbomb, I guess.
  • IneptPercy #14 2 years ago

I quite liked the first one on my trust PC, looking forward to this.
  • Eraysor #15 2 years ago

I am really looking forward to the Giant Bomb review for this.
  • muscleblade #16 2 years ago

Same month as Dead Rising 2. This better be good.
  • super_monty #17 2 years ago

    @ Eraysor

    Your comment made me laugh.
Just for comedy value he should give it a 7 no matter what (even though they use a * rating).
  • Monkey_Puncher #18 2 years ago

Wish they'd just work on a new Hitman game :(

I feel sorry for them, as most gamers don't really care after the Gamespot saga.

I had the demo on my machine for absolutely ages, and couldn't bring myself to load it up.

The fact that the game scored poor reviews and was thus largely ignored by gamers still makes me applaud both IO and Square Enix for having the balls to give what was widely renowned as a failed IP another shot. Others would surely have left the bald and the bashed up ones on the IP crap heap.

+1 to all fans of the first outing. Awesome game.

I'm baffled by people defending Kane and Lynch, to be honest. I bought it on the cheap to play co-op, and both me and my mate found it to be utterly shite, to the point of being unplayable in places.

Guess there must be something i'm missing.
  • MrE26 #22 2 years ago

I kinda enjoyed the original. I liked the story, settings & characters, but the cover mechanics were fiddly as fuck & the shooting was about as accurate as Ray Charles' bowling skills. If they fix those, & give us online co-op, i'm there.
  • spacedmonkeys #23 2 years ago

Well I loved the first one, so will definitely be buying this. Loved Darksiders too despite bad reviews in Edge and GamesTM. Guess I'm just not a sheep.
