Hover car coming to Burnout Paradise

Back To The Future-style.

Even more Burnout Paradise updates have been announced, including, yes, a Back To The Future-style hover car. Obviously.

As promised, Criterion Games revealed the latest pack (the fifth, if you haven't lost count yet) on Friday, and is calling it the 'Legendary Cars Pack'.

Available in Spring 2009, fans will be able to experience the Jansen 88 Special, "a classic 1980s styled silver sports car based on the fan-favourite Jansen P12" with "a few interesting modifications".

According to producer Jeremy Chubb, the 88 is "fast, manoeuvrable and great in the air".

"In fact, if you want to take off, this is just the car for you. Hit L3 to switch to hover mode; the wheels retract and the car takes off and hovers through Paradise City at head height. Seriously. It hovers." YES.

In addition to hover car madness, the Legendary Cars Pack will include the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk.

More news and footage of those are expected on the 14th November. Be sure to also check out Criterion's video podcast, Crash TV.

If you've missed out on all the fun, check the Burnout Paradise gamepage to catch up.

    Awesome!

    Now where's the Biplanes :)

Is it going to be free too? Burnout is the BEST supported game I have ever played if so. I thought it was ace when I got the Halo 2 maps for free, but the stuff given away with Burnout is awesome!

What a great sales structure they have created with this game I'm really impressed.

    1. Retail Version
    2. Cheaper Download version (YES I know a 2nd hand copy...etc!)
    3. Continual updates improving the game (not horse armour style rip offs either, actual big gameplay elements such as bikes etc.)

May be late to the party but I'm getting this on Friday. Need a new racer (arcade or not) as I've only got Ferrari Challenge at the mo and as much as I try I really can't get into that unfortunately.

Along with the Paradise Party update, this vehicle pack will be premium content and will therefore attract a charge but, after all the freebies we have had the privilege of enjoying, this isn't as big of a kick in the teeth as it could have been.

The Party update will include achievements and trophies for those interested but the prospects of reigniting the Burnout 2 parties I used to have at university could be an exciting prospect!

Edit - Oh, and Bad09 unless you are picking up the PSN version, you may want to hold off picking this up until the Ultimate Box is released early next year which will include all the current updates and the Party pack.

I really recommend it bad09. It's a racing game that's very easy to play and a great laugh. I've said it before but people should buy this game to prove to Criterion that this business models works.

every time I see an update come out for this game I want to buy it, even though I didn't really enjoy the demo that much

might give it another go at some point

    @ SpaceMidget75

Cheers dude I'm pretty certain I'll download it (nice big HDD with plenty off room). What's stopped me before is the same as the_dudefather, I didn't get on with the demo first time round for some reason, but all the goodies this has been getting I've grown more and more intrigued to the point I HAVE TO BUY! :)

In fact, I'm home today so between a mammoth Gears2 MP session \o/ and some GTA4 and Dead Space I may re-download the demo and have a drive round!

Wow, news that I've alreadt read on the forums. Last week. I know it takes EG a tad longer, but still.

I'm fairly sure this, and the other cars that are going to be released at the same time, will be paid for. But considering the amount of free stuff, I wouldn't complain.

@ DFawkes - Yes, the vehicle pack will definitely attract a fee. If anyone has a spare 10 mins, you can find out for yourselves on Episode 12 of CrashTV.

You will be able to buy vehicles individually or as a discounted pack for all 4.

The main problem is the other 3 cars won't be as good. Can they all fly? No, they're restricted to the ground. Boring, where my hovercar!

I'll still have them all though, I'm a crazy completist when it comes to DLC. I even had a track I bought on Forza 2 that I haven't touched to this day.

    @ dsmx - Already confirmed! \o/
  • Grim... #21 3 years ago

The other cars are the General Lee, KITT and ECTO1 then?
  • GamesConnoisseur #22 3 years ago

Hover?!!! Would it not spoil the real based world of Burnout Paradise?!

Still a great developer who really continue to support heavily the title after the release, keeping its fresh and alive and yes others should follow the lead!
