Harmonix not making Green Day: RB

DLC team Demiurge will.

Rock Band creator Harmonix will not be making the Green Day spin-off that was announced in December 2009.

Instead, track pack maker Demiurge will do the honours.

"Not included in the announcement was the fact that Demiurge Studios was working on Green Day: Rock Band. And I gotta say, it's pretty freakin' awesome working on it. I'd love to tell you more, but NDAs, yada yada yada, so I can't say much else," Adam Rosenfield, an employee at Demiurge, wrote on his blog (via VG247).

This revelation supports what MTV bigwig Paul De Goyer said last week, when he told Newsarama that Green Day: Rock Band is "of course not going to be our only game this year".

Rock Band 3? Let's hope.

Not sure what I want more - Rock Band 3 or more albums for Beatles Rock Band! As long as Harmonix are working on one or the other, that's great news

    Rock Band 3? Let's hope.

As long as we're wishing, can't we wish for something more original?

    More Beatles albums please.

I wonder what they could come up with in order to re-use the huge DLC base they have now.

More Beatles albums, Rock Band 3, or both, more likely.

More Beatles albums would be welcome, I've not picked up the main game yet as there's been so many other great games since then that have taken priority but as its sales drop I'm now looking forward to an inevitable "collection release" with a load of albums thrown in that I may not be able to resist.

As for next project, Rock Band 3 would be good too. Just don't go the Guitar Hero route of dredging up so called "popular music" and keep giving us a good general mix of hits and lesser known tracks including the genres that Activision seem to have forgotten that make guitar games fun in the first place such as metal and punk. In fact as long as Rock Band continues to be compatible with its old DLC everything will be fine.

In all honesty I don't think Rock Band 3 is necessary. Rock Band 2 has nailed the music game format and I can't think of any additions they could make that would warrant a new game. Just keep doing the sterling job you're doing with the DLC Harmonix!

Pssst. That was the PC version of Mass Effect. A port, but still...

Harmonies, More comprehensive selection screens (That tells you if you have tracks yet to be played, stars earned), more streamlined World Tour, expanded Rock Band Network support, dreamscape support, possibly the importation of band track packs like Green Day that includes the character models and stages. There is plenty of stuff that they can do

My problem is that Harmonix haven't exactly been doing a "sterling job" with DLC recently; this week only one of the tracks is actually new, the rest were made ages ago for the Metal Track Pack. Hopefully they'll make up for it next week.

I still believe if they simply increased the amount of people generating DLC (as they will soon) they'll make a lot more money out of me.
