Guitar Hero: Van Halen looking likely

German ratings board joins in.

German ratings board USK has solidified rumours of a Guitar Hero: Van Halen game with a listing on its website.

PS3 and 360 are the platforms mentioned, according to Destructoid.

It's far from the first we've heard about the spin-off. Last month, sources close to Activision told Eurogamer that Guitar Hero Van Halen will be out this August, as will Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero and Band Hero.

Corroborating that report are a leaked set of presentation slides by a Rock Band developer, whose market release timeline shows that "GH:VH" and "GH:BH" will be out this year. How much of his competitor's strategy he's privy too, however, remains unknown.

Activision refused to comment on rumour and speculation when contacted by Eurogamer this morning.

I like rock music (spanning 4 decades) as much as the next person but a Van Halen game, seriously?!

Their back catalogue just doesn't have the legs to stand up against groups such as Metallica or especially the forthcoming Beatles games.

I certainly don't mind Van Halen, but I think they'd basically need to GH-ize practically every studio recording they've ever done in order to have enough tracks.

Perhaps this is actually a track pack a la the stupidly overpriced AC/DC Rock Band one?

Why bother putting effort into supporting your existing games with regular DLC tracks when you can release 5 new games in one year and the idiots will lap it up?

I like a small 2 second section of Hot For Teacher, and that's about it.

Perhaps AC/DC and Van Halen are bigger in the US than over here? I thought that Aerosmith was pushing it a little tbh.
Wouldn't mind seeing a "Purple Rainbows" tie in - nice selection of groups there with the USP of the "family tree" to play with perhaps?

Another one worth a shout would be a Dave Grohl:Band Whore with Nirvana/Foos/QotSA/Killing Joke/Probot/etc tie ins.

What about a Festival tie-in? This year's V-Festival has a cracking line-up and I guess it would satisy the suits in marketing.

I live in hope of GH:Iron Maiden though - that's a back catalogue to be proud of.

Oh, and please never let GH:Meatloaf see the light of day...

This is very good news for me personally. Van Halen is the sole reason I picked up electric guitar some 16 years ago, and Eddie used to be my biggest hero. Know all his solos by heart, so this should be awesome. For me, much more interesting than GH Metallica or Aerosmith.

Of course, I do hate the "milk" factor of all this, and would have preferred this as a DLC pack instead. Oh, well - gonna buy this anyways.

Iron Maiden (play as eddie), Dave Grohl (beezleboss) or Queen (unlockable drag costumes)

    --VS--

Aerosmith (play as big mouthed idiot), Metallica (..), Van Halan (-_-)
