GOD welcomes LEGO Indy, Saints Row 2

Plus: Winter Sports demo on Live.

Xbox Live's Games on Demand has grown and now includes Saints Row 2 and LEGO Indiana Jones.

THQ and Volition's gang-banger Saints Row 2 shrugged off the genre-shadow cast by Grand Theft Auto IV with aplomb, exaggerating reality for a hyped-up and carefree romp. We loved it, as our Saints Row 2 review testifies. Head to the Marketplace SR2 page to set the wheels in motion.

LEGO Indiana Jones, also £20, had a hard time following a string of high-scoring LEGO videogames. The core's still there, and both big and actual kids will enjoy the ride, but don't expect too much depth. Plus, an improved sequel has just been released, although it's got problems of its own. Digest Eurogamer's LEGO Indiana Jones 1 and 2 reviews before heading over to Xbox.com to download, if you like.

And, for those of you who don't feel like splashing out, there's a Winter Sports 2010 demo to try.

why would I spend 20 quid on shit games when I can buy better ones cheaper off play.com like resi 5 for 17 quid stick it up your ass microsoft your not getting my money this way!
  • menage #3 2 years ago

I really don't get that either. Why the hell would I buy these when they're 10-20 quid cheaper in stores. Drop the price, especially for ancient titles like C&C3

I wonder what the sales are like for GoD. Cant be that good or MS would have been trumpeting them.

The price really is a joke TBH. Esp for 2-3 year old games.

Well swissorc, according to the EG review SR2 isn't a shit game, but yeah, why you'd spend £20 for a digitial copy when its £15 on play.com is beyond me. Pretty sure I saw it in tescos for cheaper than this as well.

Maybe this is targeted at a niche (for now) who 5-10 pounds means litle and want the game without leaving home. On na rainy afternoon...

PRiceing in Portugal are worse, but in comparison they are better as a retail title here costs 60 pounds and they rarely go down on price (only changes if it's a Classic/Platinum). Saint's Row here is still those 60 pounds. And there are ppl who buy them...

They are too greedy thats why and now arcade games are going up in price how can they justify selling them if older games with a 1000G and much more content are the same price. I know there are some great arcade games out there but the GOD games would offer a lot more for your money if they were £10
  • interceptor #8 2 years ago

I've given up complaining about the GOD prices now - because clearly MS aren't going to lower them - which means one of two things.

    1. They're not listening or simply just don't care.
    2. Enough people are buying them at £20 a pop, that they are seen internally at MS as successful.

I don't know which would be more depressing/frustrating
  • miiiguel #9 2 years ago

Greedy they sure must be, but I think there might be, also, another less mundane reason, because I can't believe they are getting much money with this pricing. I'm not sure if there's no agreement with retailers or something.

I reckon its just an experiment because digital distribution is the way forward for publishers I reckon. Destroys the 2nd hand market.

So they are now just testing the waters. Sure the prices suck but your first offer is almost always too high as you never know what most people are willing to pay and you sure as hell don't want to undercut any profit you could make.

I thought it was a bit odd that Miyamoto was welcoming old games... :\

@EarlBassett: Coming from something like GTAIV or Crackdown the vehicle and shooting physics will feel stiff as hell, yes. Get a friend to play co-op with you through the story mode, though, and the game will grow on you. I felt exactly the same when i first fired it up but after a few hours I was loving every minute of it. There's just so much to it, and so much of it is done far better than GTAIV.
  • Emmit_Assassin #14 2 years ago

IMO I thought SR2 was a little better than GTAIV in some respects. I'm still playing it now, even with MW2 sat next to it on the shelf. Sold GTAIV gods knows how long ago.
As for GoD, fuck off MS is all I can think of.

When are Microsoft going to cop on? Has anybody been foolish enough to use games on demand?
They are either out of touch with reality or they do know and will keep burying their head in the sand over the prices.
Why create a service and price yourself out of the market so no one uses it? Dumb..
