Ghostbusters for 360 gets release date

As do the Wii, PC and DS versions.

Atari's latest release schedule includes a date for the as yet unreleased versions of Ghostbusters: The Videogame.

The game will be available for Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PC on Friday 23rd October. That date applies to Europe only, of course - all versions are already out in North America.

Which means we were able to do a face-off comparing the PS3 and 360 versions back in June. Alternatively, you could read our review to find out why Ghostbusters is worth a highly respectable 7/10.

A face-off between the Xbox/PS3 version and the Wii version would be more useful. As I own both Wii and Xbox I'd like to know which version of the game is the better option as they're likely to be quite different, I would imagine.

I got the 360 demo off America's Marketplace. Quite enjoyed it too, good pacing between action, using the gadgets, to being funny and a little bit scary. Though it kinda felt like i was just along for the ride - rather than having any real significance being there.

But what a ride though! The voice acting is terrific and the banter between the main charas really funny at times too. If you're a fan of the films (like me) what more could you want?

That is awhile away, I just wish the publishers would spread out their release dates throughout the year rather then lumping the lot in the autumn and winter months. Gets expensive!
Anyhoo, will probably end up getting this as it's Ghostbusters and I want to see what happens when I cross them streams.

The delay hasn't worked in their favour. Having had time to play the demo, I'm now no longer interested in buying it. :-(

Way too many games will be competing with this around that date. Guaranteed to fail.... who makes these decisions?

'As I own both Wii and Xbox I'd like to know which version of the game is the better option as they're likely to be quite different, I would imagine.'

They are. The 360/PS3/PC version is akin to the movie whilst the Wii version seems to be based on Extreme Ghostbusters.

Hey Dean Yeger! That's ages away. :-( Gonna import now.

@Blerk "They" didn't delay it fore their own interests; Sony saw a property that *it* owned through its ownership of Columbia pictures, realised the Wii and 360 sales would piss all over the PS3 ones and steamrollered over their released at the 11th hour! Since this was only in Europe, the US and Australia have had access for ages. If you wanted it so badly back then, you should have imported like I did! I do believe its excellent. And the comparison EG ran shows that the cut scenes are much better (PROPER high res) on the 360 and the environmental damage is more detailed.

I imported the PC version and it's great even without the multiplayer (which I probably wouldn't have bothered with anyway). One of the better movie-to-game adaptions that I've played and right up there with The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and X-Men Origins: Wolverine in my opinion.

I have an import copy, thought it was awesome as I'm a huge fan even if the game is very linear and the online modes are meh, hope we get a sequel or even one based on the cartoon. October is a stupid time to release it though, August even September but October? there is so many other games out, that's one way to damage sales I suppose.

Moribundman - it's not due out in Australia until sometime in November unfortunately. Silly idea...I can kind of see the point on a PlayStation exclusive for maybe a few weeks but months? Nah. Are people really going to buy a PS3 just to play Ghostbusters? I'd love to be able to buy it on 360 now with the recent lack of new releases but by October/November all the big games will be on their way and this game may not get much of a look-in.

Imported the region-free US version, Atari needs the money now not later ;)

how long?!?! sod it, I'll get the PS3 version.

About a week before halloween?, sounds perfect to me - of course we should have got it *last* halloween (thanks again activision) but at least we get to play it when the nights start drawing in again.

Ghostbusters has always been an autumn/winter thing to me, its when we first got the movies in the UK after all.

I was one of those who swore that I ll import the game with higher resolution and textures on x360 (sure PC is vastly better!) rather than go for sub HD PS3 version. I have played demo and PS3 is not a bad looking game but you can clearly tell the difference between both consoles demos. I for this occasion hasnt yet actually stepped up and imported as was thinking too many games to be played and why hurry for one more game?

October is not too far away but yes will probably spirit away beneath the other bigger releases and has this helped the sales on PS3 or generally on all platform games? I doubt it, as concerted advertising on multi platform sells better even with the well known IP. Would be interested to see the life time sales on all consoles and how its compared to the other reputable IP franchise in the past?

Sure its not actually Sony's fault but more of how Atari had arrived at this situation and yet the nature of Phil's former role and how Sony get a timed exclusives do seem to smells a bit to people regardless!

Imported it and played it, really good game, stays true to the film and expands on some of the storyplots nicely (even has small nods towards the animated series).

The real question is, how many people felt they had to buy a PS3 due to the 360 version being delayed, or simply went and imported the 360 version. Still can't work out what Sony had planned in the delay at all.

"A face-off between the Xbox/PS3 version and the Wii version would be more useful."

    +1

Been waiting for something like this. I dont care which one is graphically better.. i just care about which one PLAYS better...

Which is why i havent bought either the 360 or wii version yet...
  • Razorus #20 3 years ago

I played it on PS3. Not a good game tbh.
  • smelly #21 3 years ago

everyone seems to slag off the ps3/360 versions... anyone played the wii version? is it any good? (in comparision?)

Sony didn't steam-roller anything; Atari's PAL distribution died. Namco Bandai bought it and formed Namco Bandai Partners, but this was happening too late for the Ghostbusters Bluray release.
