Ghostbusters 360 slips to November

Let's Spengler night together.

Atari has pushed the European release of Ghostbusters to 6th November on DS, PC, Wii and Xbox 360. We had expected the game on 23rd October.

Ghostbusters: The Videogame is already available on PS3 and PS2, after Sony picked up the game as a timed exclusive for May. We reviewed it and everything.

The time between releases doesn't mean changes have been made. In fact, those other versions - DS, PC, Wii and Xbox 360 - are already available in the US. Only Europe, thanks to some bizarre publishing deals, has had to wait.

The PSP version of Ghostbusters appears poised for a 30th October release according to local retailers.

I wont be buying. To much else out.
  • login_name #2 2 years ago

To take advantage of the Christmas rush, no doubt.
  • TafKas #3 2 years ago

I dont think this is going to sell very well in the christmas barrage, I thought it was a great little game but this deal has killed its sales I reckon. Those that really wanted it will have imported it already. Its a shame really.
  • Darren #4 2 years ago

Isn't 6th November the same date Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is released? Regardless, I'd imagine the game will have a hard time getting noticed in the run up to Christmas when it'll be up against dozens of other games. Good luck to it, it's going to need it!
  • beastmaster #5 2 years ago

I think October is very crowded in terms of release schedules. May have moved it to a quiter period pre-MW2 release. It's Ghostbusters! It'll sell. I'll be buying it on 360.
  • des #6 2 years ago

To battle with overpriced MW2...publishers are reaching new levels of stupidity this gen
  • tomjoadsghost #7 2 years ago

Thats a pal sale lost then, i was good with waiting till october because this thing launching a week before halloween was kind of cool but im gonna import now.
  • LiveForever #8 2 years ago

I thought this was out months ago? Lots of people used to play it on my list. Come and gone i think
  • local_celebrity #9 2 years ago

Yeah, yeah whatevah. Atari are obviously relying on fuddy duddy parents to drive their sales this Christmas.

Modern Warfare 2? That looks a bit violent. Better stick with Ghostbusters.
  • miiiguel #10 2 years ago

I have it already, bought it from the US.
  • jaluuk #11 2 years ago

Bought it in America and already completed it. Suck it, timed exclusives.

    @miiiguel We rock.

If they had released it in the UK over summer they would have made a killing because there was nothing else out! Now it's coming out at the busiest time of the year it will be lost among a lot of better games. Serves them right for messing about with a really stupid timed exclusive deal!
  • metalangel #13 2 years ago

Got a borrowed import copy here too. Not a bad little game, would undoubtedly have been better released in the summer.
  • Gearskin #14 2 years ago

Imported this on 360. It's one of the most enjoyable games I've played this year, online and off.
  • Moribundman #15 2 years ago

Got my girlfriend to bring a copy over in June! Great game. You aren't big or clever Sony. And your PS3 resolution sucks arse vs 360. "Lets pay for a timed exclusive on something that's shitter on our machine!"
  • corposant #16 2 years ago

Can anyone recommend a reliable importer? D y'all use Play Asia or is there someplace better?
  • speedjack #17 2 years ago

Awesome piece of marketing this Sony.

Pay through the nose for a timed PS3 exclusive (yet bizarrely non-region locked game) that is now being used as a poster boy for how crappy cross platform games can look on PS3.

    Genius.

Crazy decision. They're gonna get eaten alive by MW2!
  • miiiguel #19 2 years ago

    @ jaluuk: we do :D

@ corposant: I can't help you on that, despite every thing we hear on the internet about obnoxious Live users, truth is, it was an american guy I met on the system who sent me. Guy took the time and effort to do it, and he sent the receipt as he made it clear he wasn't doing it for the money. Was impressed.
  • Shinetop #20 2 years ago

Bought it (a US import), played it, loved it, finished it, shelved it. Why would I still care about this now? Honestly, from the title I thought there was going to be a sequel titled "Ghostbusters 360" in november 2010, and then I realised that they meant the game everyone played months ago.
  • Invisible_Cow #21 2 years ago

Why do publishers insist on releasing all of their games in fucking November? I haven't got through my backlog from last year yet, and we're already heading for a massive Christmas blockage.
    /rant

As for Ghostbusters, I'm sure this can only hurt it. Having played an import version, it seems like it would have had a much better chance as a frivolous summer release. Up against the big-hitters in the holiday season, it's going to look pretty poor.

To be fair, my birthday's 1st December and my quarterly bonus comes through on 20th October, so I am a happy chappy. Even so, they are stupid bunching everything up. GTA new ep released then too (or the disc if you skipped the DLC). Everything will do poorly because so many AAAs are coming out at once. Thank god Batman didn't wait to cash in on Halloween!
  • davisorle #23 2 years ago

I'll just download MW2. If they dont like it they should put a regular f**king price so I can also play it online officially like i did with their first MW title. Wanna be di*ks? I will be too and im not ashamed of it. If they wanna make extra money they should stop bitching to those pirating everything. I do hope they fail in sales on the PC fully and the 360 since they will both bee cracked instantly.

Ghostbusters is a cool fun game. Worth the buy and funs of the movies etc wil be most pleased. was a great transfer with sweet visuals.
  • TheTingler #24 2 years ago

The game was released months ago, why do we have to wait even longer? That's ridiculous! I mean, I've already completed it and very much enjoyed it, but it sucks that other people have to wait so long.

@corposant Videogamesplus is the only importer I trust. They'll get it to you quickly and cheaper than here too.

  • DDevil #25 2 years ago

Eh. I've so lost interest in this game. Especially now it'll be competing with the big releases. One of the bargin bin I think - should only take a few week, after all I've waited this long!
  • Razorus #26 2 years ago

It sucks. It won't sell well. Nobody cares.
  • Skorms-Boss #27 2 years ago

Push it back, becomes big seller in the christmas market! then again anythings a big seller in the christmas market!
  • swissorc #28 2 years ago

could careless but the effort is just not worth it
  • spookyzombie #29 2 years ago

This'll struggle a bit now. It's not exactly a triple A title in the first place.
  • corposant #30 2 years ago

@ miiiguel and TheTingler. Thanks chaps, much appreciated :-)
  • cobaltfram #31 2 years ago

As an American, let me say this: y'all aren't missing much.
  • jim1975 #32 2 years ago

  • dingo75 #33 2 years ago

Dirt cheap at play.com (PC version). Have it on pre-order.
Don't care when it comes up for that price.
  • metallicorphan #34 2 years ago

sorry ATARI Call of duty modern warfare 2 and Dragon Age come before Ghostbusters if you are putting it out on that date..you crazy bastards you
  • IronCladChicken #35 2 years ago

    @farticusmaximus
I didn't know that - Thanks for the update man!

"This game was never a timed exclusive!

Due to financial troubles Atari were going to delay ALL UK versions of the game, but Sony stepped up and published it for the PS2 and PS3 because they did not want to miss the Ghostbusters anniversary movie release.

MS could have done the same for the 360 release but they didnt. Sony are not to blame for the delay and neither are Atari as they are currently balancing on a financial knife edge. "

    @farticus

Wrong, wrong, wrong. There are numerous interviews with principle parties (here's one, for example: http://ww w.gamesindustry.biz/articles/mu... ) that show that Atari was paid to let Sony publish the titlefor the PS/2&3 in certain territories if Atari agreed to delay their launch on other platforms in said territories. Besides, are you clear on what a "timed exclusive" is? It's when one of the (in the case of consoles) console manufacturers compensates a publisher for delaying release on the competing formats. Did you see what Sony did there? They paid for the rights to publish the game in Europe/PAL territories, in exchange for Atari delaying the publishing of the Xbox (and Wii, I think) versions in the same territory. What is that if not a timed exclusive? Hmmm?

Sorry for the harsh tone, but people putting silly nonsense up on the "internet" and other people plussing their posts and thanking them, etc. just gets my goat.

/edit - typos, slight change of tone.

After playing the demo (on PS3 & 360) I'm not bothered about any delays...
  • byron_hinson #39 2 years ago

Got to say that after having it for a few months i'd only give it 5/10 and that is as a Ghostbusters fan
  • StooMonster #40 2 years ago

I picked up Xbox 360 version last time I was in US, hurrah for tactical 'region free' release.

Coincidentally just fired it up, been sat in my pile of yet-to-plays for months; it's quite good fun, and great having the original cast doing voice-overs.

Still, the Sony timed exclusive bollocks -- Ghostbusters is a Columbia (Sony Pictures) movie -- is a stupid load of inept corporate strategy. Pathetic.
  • MiniAmin #41 2 years ago

    @ Davisorle

The irony is that you illegally downloading MW2 contributes to its higher price point... and even if piracy doesn't directly affect the cost of MW2, it can still be used by Activision to justify the price hike: "100,000 copies were pirated which has prompted us to increase the price". Many gamers are frustrated about MW2's price but we won't all resort to pirating. Two wrongs don't make a right.
  • DrDamn #42 2 years ago

    @cyber_nico
Nothing in that article contradicts what Farticus said though. Sony stepped in the publish - that was the deal. The PR man is going to spin it as best he can given the circumstances. When asked about financial difficulties what did you expect an Atari representative to say? "Yes we are up shit creek, have you got a paddle I can borrow?". There is no mention of Sony paying money for the deal. All of the info still fits with what is generally accepted as what happened - and it makes a hell of a lot more sense that Sony shelling out for an exclusive - but just for Europe. Why did they even need to publish it for a start?
  • persus-9 #43 2 years ago

The mind boggles, how the heck can you have a release date slip on a product that has been gold for months now?! Not that I really care because I won't be buying it, it's too late, I was interested and call me a bitter old PC fanboy if you must but the way I see it Atari had a choice: they could sell me this game or they could accept Sony's offer to pay them not to sell it to me and they chose the later.
