F.E.A.R. PS3 slips too

Frightfully annoying.

Ubisoft isn't the only publisher having trouble bulking up for PlayStation 3's European launch, with Vivendi confirming this week that F.E.A.R. has also slipped.

The first-person shooter - a huge critical success on PC and Xbox 360 - had been expected to launch alongside the console on both sides of the Atlantic, but unspecified delays mean that it's yet to appear in the US and won't be out here until 20th April by the publisher's current estimate.

That's a shame because, as you'll know if you checked in with our first impressions, it's shaping up handsomely. Not wanting to give the impression of favouritism, the developer handling the console conversions - Day 1 Studios - has introduced one exclusive weapon each to the 360 and PS3 versions. In this case, it's a rapid-fire shotgun. You've also got another exclusive level, giving you yet another take on the events that led up to all that running around in a skyscraper knocking over tables and going NEEEEEEOOOOOOOORRRRRRR in slow-motion.

All of which we should be articulating for you again soon when it comes time to review. In the meantime, why not admire some shots and a trailer on our gamepage?

I can't imagine too many people will be shedding tears over this one. Only reviewers seem to actually like it.

So what happened to the "delayed European launch means more games available on Day One" then?

So far F.E.A.R., Oblivion, GRAW 2, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Rainbow Six Vegas have slipped... not that I'm bothered anyway as they're all available for the 360 but it must be annoying for any PS3-only owners who've been patiently waiting to play any of those games. I just hope the exclusives like Resistance, MotorStorm and F1 CE don't slip as well... :(
  • SIDEARM #4 5 years ago

Resistance wont slip - not after they have spent so much on those irratating adverts for it.

Ahem, you mean the "delayed European launch means them paying more for a feature reduced system".

That is right on track, no worries.

So it is not coming out on the 17th of November at the PS3's launch then? ;-)
  • Beano #7 5 years ago

These 3rd party titles are obviously being delayed slightly to avoid being overlooked by consumers when aprox. 30 titles are launched in a few days and the focus is on titles like Resistance, Motorstorm and VF5.

They will simply sell better if they launch the titles 4-6 weeks later.

A wise choise by the publishers IMO.

Oblivion has also slipped as well,
  • morriss #9 5 years ago

Just another shooter that got 9/10 on EG and is one of silentbob's and Uncle Lou's favourite games in the genre. Oh well, no great loss.

I liked it (on the PC) - the main hook is definitely the slow-mo combat and great AI. The story was pretty hackneyed and the environments were very samey, but it was still a compelling and atmospheric game throughout and very much fun to play. If (a) I hadn't played it already on the PC and (b) I was getting myself a PS3, I'd definitiely be looking forward to this. Unfortunately I (a) have already played it and (b) am not getting a PS3 any time soon, so... er, I won't be buying it again.

F.E.A.R. is a fun but slightly overrated IMO... well worth a puchase.

The PS3 seems to haemoraging (sp?) exclusives ever since its announcement two years ago... I've lost count of the number of its games that have gone excluisive. Even Tekken 6 is rumoured to be coming out on the 360 but it remains to be seen how much truth there is in that.
  • trevd72 #14 5 years ago

its a 7/10 kinda game anyway. not essential. worth a rent until you are bored of the repetition at around level 6. Deathmatch is circa 1998.

i don't think there will be such a thing as third party exclusive towards the end of this gen.

Proof positive that it's probably rubbish! :-D

Even though all these slippages are not good news for the PS3 launch, I don't think it matters at all in the long run.

It would be interesting to know what's caused the delays however.

    @ Darren

"Even Tekken 6 is rumoured to be coming out on the 360 but it remains to be seen how much truth there is in that".

so, with the way everything has panned out so far concerning the PS3, what truths remain to be seen? Or am I missing something?

it has to be said that EG reviews are a laugh and a half at times. I know its all subjective. GamesTM and Digitiser are on my wavelength so i dont really use EG for purchase decisions. Saying that why do i come here.......oh yes, to rant.

  • captainrentboy #24 5 years ago

But, but there's definietely going to be 30 games on launch day, Mr Sony told us all that! Why would he lie, Whhhyyyyy?
  • JediMasterMalik #25 5 years ago

Never really thought much of thegame, the AI was good, and the combat felt cool, but it just wasn't that much fun.
  • Skywalker333 #26 5 years ago

and enchanted arms port to ps3 is horrible...
nothing left for me to buy in launch time!
will wait some months for some games to come.

  • JediMasterMalik #27 5 years ago

You were thinking of buyin eArms? Really? It's hardly the launch defining title is it?
  • Blerk #28 5 years ago

To be fair, that article doesn't say that the PS3 port of Enchanted Arms is horrible. It just says that Enchanted Arms itself is horrible.

Sony's managed to meet its March launch date for the PS3 console. It's just the PS3 games we'll have to wait for.
  • JediMasterMalik #30 5 years ago

Also, none of these are Sony's fault, the reason they are being delayed is because Resistance and Motorstorm are getting all the game pre-orders, if they delay they have a better chance of selling the games. It's not like the games aren't ready.
  • dominalien #31 5 years ago

    Strange, this.

From the FEAR PS3 first impressions article on EG:
"it was actually developed alongside the Xbox 360 version"

It should have been ready a year ago, no?
  • trevd72 #32 5 years ago

this whole we will have 30 games at launch is nonsense anyway. what would be better is 5 good games at launch then 5 the week after and so on. We only have so much money and more importantly so much time.

There again it also means that 25 or so games that don't get picked up will be cheap within a month.
  • bonker #33 5 years ago

This next week or so is going to see 'truth' hemorrhaging from the PS3 after all the recent BS - slipped games, dodgy bc etc etc ...
  • SomaticSense #34 5 years ago

A bit shit of them to announce this in the same week of it's original release date.

Edit: My spelling is so bad today....

Each of those games that have been delayed are better on the Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 is BY FAR the better system in terms of graphics and online features.

For example, look at recent news:

Devil May Cry 4 will be released for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC all at the same time.

Ace Combat 6 was only announced for the Xbox 360.
  • Carrybagma #36 5 years ago

Out and out screaming fanboy tosser.
  • m0thr4 #37 5 years ago

Sadly, the Xbox 360 fanboys were right... sort of. F.E.A.R. has been totally cocked up on the PS3.
