Endless Ocean 2 dated for Europe

Wii sequel has plaice on February schedule.

Nintendo's revealed a 5th February release date for Wii game Endless Ocean 2.

As in EO, deep-sea diving is the catch of the day, although this time you can wade out of the depths to look at birds and things that look like jellyfish but aren't, probably.

The sequel also allows you to go diving with friends in multiplayer, where you can chat via Wii Speak and swap watery tales.

Missions in Endless Ocean 2 include tending to coral reefs, riding dolphins and hanging around with whales. You'll be plunging into icy Arctic waters, foraging through sunken wrecks in the Aegean Sea and exploring the riches of the Brazilian Amazon.

But life under water isn't all parrot fish and sea horses: there are dangerous predators down there, and you'll need your Pulsar gun at the ready to repel them when they strike.

Released in 2007, Endless Ocean stood apart from the shoal for being different, and it's encouraging to see Nintendo commissioning more from developer Akira.

Head over to our Endless Ocean review for an idea of what to expect.

I never got around to trying the first, might have to pick this up.

"Plaice", groan... but I quite enjoy a bit of relaxing explore-and-puzzle gaming once in a while, so its on my list.

    "Plaice" - groan

Well, I wasn't going to make a fish joke just for the halibut.

Stupid question I know but I recently fired up the first game. How the hell do you get in the water for a swim? Anyone?

Press left/right on the dpad to open the menu, there you can find the option to start diving.

Wonder how much it'll retail for, considering the first one launched at a cheaper price.

I'm a bit bothered by the "danger" bits that flash up in the video. Strikes me like they're pandering to the wrong people - I want to poke a fish in the eye and not get eaten by it afterwards like the first. Still, judgement reserved 'til I play it, obviously.

I have a feeling this will be full price ...especially thanks to the weakness of the pound (although in fairness we were lucky last time around as the first game was full price everywhere else. We got it cheap for a change).

Still, the first game was worth full price IMO. Deserved far more praise than it got. Hours of exploration and a well realised underwater world....and actually educational..without feeling like it was trying to be.

It got a lot of stick from some "hardcore" mags..one refused to review it because it wasn't a proper "game. Idiots.

As a diver and fisherman I should of loved the first but it wasn't what I expected.

I hated the motion controls, all the faffing about on the boat with the text and the fact that you had to unlock each area and you couldn't just go off exploring like I do when I actually dive.

Make a change from COD I suppose.

I must admit where games are usually larger than life, the seabed in EO was amazingly dull compared to the real thing....

Would be cool to be able to do stuff like drift dives...

Was amazed my diver didn't have decompression sickness after surfacing from 18m without a safety stop :p

Whale graveyard still gives me nightmares. Goblin shark!

I would have liked a realism mode where you progress through diving courses, like starting with Open Water 18m, and progressing through things like wreck diving, night diving, cave diving, ice diving etc. You do important things like share air, conservation work etc.

..and your character gets a deeper tan as you progress :)

    @ Vertical Stand

My local Tesco had loads (and I mean loads) at £14 after Christmas, haven't visited for a few days (snow and all) but they were still there last time I popped in.

Never tried the original but looks pretty interesting since I like Aquanaut's Holiday on the PS3 :)

The first is an under-rated gem - you'll even find a EG group we made devoted to it. I have high hopes for the new one but don't like the sound of the stun gun for predators, I don't want to be worried about being attacked. The first one was wonderful for just losing yourself for hours without a care in the world.

Really looking forward to it, theres nothing quite like it, i just hope finding the hidden areas wont be so bloody hard this time, i used a guide to find the ship wreck. Oh and make sure theres a lot more hidden areas as well as ancient ruins.
