EA unveils Create

Looks and sounds like LittleBigPlanet.

EA has unveiled Create, a new game that focuses on gamer creations.

Due out this November for PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Mac and Wii, Create is in development at EA's Bright Light Studio in Guildford, Surrey.

"Create uses families' imaginations to develop new ways to play together that are both fun and challenging," said Harvey Elliott, vice president and general manager at EA Bright Light.

"We wanted to design a game where the entire family can explore, decorate, and solve challenges where no solution is wrong and the only limit is the imagination."

Sounds a bit like LittleBigPlanet to us.

The more players explore the game, solve level-based challenges and customize their world, the more rewards will be unlocked, says the official blurb.

Environments can be designed with brushes and tools, including textures, props and animating objects.

PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and Mac gamers can share their creations, solutions and challenges through their console or the just-launched official website.

PS3 owners will be pleased to know the game's PS Move compatible. There's no mention of Kinect.

The first screenshots are below.

Looks like someone ripped the soul out of LBP and remade the shell with rubbish textures.

The screenshots look like the worst user created levels from LBP.

    (Gary's Mod - Technical) + (LBP - Charm) = Create

AWFUL. Looks like it has none of the charm that makes LBP special.
  • twoism #6 2 years ago

Doesn't seem to have a very distinct sense of art style, which is what made LBP stand out for sure. Still though, being a multi platform title might open doors for many more people to create some interesting things (provided the tool set is decent).

Even the worst LBP levels have that trademark visual charm and style.

I don't know if it's fair to compare this to LBP though. This seems to have a much narrower scope.

Looks like they forgot that one of the main selling points of LBP is Sackboy. Looks like you play as bikes, buggys and dodge'ems.
  • metalangel #10 2 years ago

It looks even worse than that LBP advert where the guy proudly shows off his level made entirely of bums.
  • Fab4 #11 2 years ago

I need my eyes tested. I thought the headline said: EA unveils crate. Then again, a crate unveiling might be significantly more interesting.
  • mr_shoe_uk #12 2 years ago

Yeah, it doesn't quite look like Little Big Planet, because Little Big Planet looks much much better (and I don't even like Sackboy).
  • Dduckster #13 2 years ago

Hang on... Wasn't Little Big Planet made in Guildford too?
  • X201 #14 2 years ago

Hang on... Wasn't Little Big Planet made in Guildford too?

... and Dungeon Keeper and Joe Danger and Burnout Paradise and Black and White and Populous and Theme Park and ... and...and...

Edit: I'm curious. Will the person who neg'd this, explain why

I hope its more flexible than just being able to create variations on Trials HD as the screenshots suggest.

    Play, LittleBigPlanet, Share :p

Well, after reading everyone's overwhelmingly positive reactions here it's fairly clear they've got a highly original hit on their hands.

It doesn't look great but if it's less anal about letting you import assets than LittleBigPlanet I'll definitely give it a go.

Being able to import artwork I've painted or drawn would be a definite plus. Same goes for people who want to insert their own audio rather than use the library provided.
  • Fab4 #20 2 years ago

I think import ability is a copyright minefield few game developers/publishers want to get caught in. An in-game painting tool, along the lines of Forza, might be an idea for LBP2 (or any of the clones) though.
  • Cappy #21 2 years ago

Since it's also coming out on PC and Mac there would be a minor shitstorm if users couldn't at the very least paste their own bitmap artwork onto surfaces. Besides somebody would just hack the functionality in.

Being so proactive about protecting copyright isn't strictly necessary or required. If somebody does infringe copyright they're at fault, not the software.

its LBP, but without the charm
  • carrotcake #23 2 years ago

wow they could make it look less of a copy. seems to be side scrolling and unlocking new objects to create with on the way and graffiti tagging the background.
  • Fab4 #24 2 years ago

Its still didnt stop Viacom from issuing a lawsuit against Youtube. Ok, so they didnt win it, but I'm guessing its not something developers/publishers want to get remotely close to.

LPB without the really cool looking game engine. Meh!

  • Dizzy #27 2 years ago

You can't compare a Wii graphics engine to a PS3 one.

That being said... looks rather meh.

    >LittleBigLawsuit?

Dude... platform game construction kits existed in the 80s.
  • CrumpledPaper #28 2 years ago

It's interesting how many people have gravitated so instantly to LBP comparisons. This game isn't even a platformer!

I think the 2.5D physics slant and the is misleading people a bit. Superficially it's tempting to jump to the LBP comparison, but the more I read about it, the less similarity there is. It sounds a bit more like the editing stuff in Joe Danger actually. Broader than that, but in the spectrum between something like LBP on one end and Joe Danger on the other, this seems to be way more on the Joe Danger end.
  • curtlikesmeat #29 2 years ago

Good to see id are still getting some revenue from the Quake 2 engine!
  • drumbaby #30 2 years ago

Looks like an ageing bargain-bucket PC game.
  • BBIAJ #31 2 years ago

I'm surprised they didn't call it CrEAte... ;o)

It's called a joke. Look it up.
  • xenoss #33 2 years ago

I love how they don't acknowledge the competition/inspiration. People never do that now. Like Move and Kinect not acknowledging Wii and Eyetoy. They love to talk like they came up with the idea, and they didn't know something else like that was already out in spite of them being widely known and popular.

  • Spekingur #34 2 years ago

This just looks more like some kind of an advanced version of The Incredible Machine rather than LBP.
  • BuddyChrist #35 2 years ago

apparently the niche isn't fully tapped. Fortunately EA has the "prostitute sellout developer" niche well and truly covered. The pop artists of the gaming world never fail to play their part
