EA quiet on Mercs 2 delay

Christmas release still iffy.

EA is declining to comment on rumours that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames has slipped into 2008.

Yesterday, reports claimed that Pandemic's open-world action game would miss its expected launch this holiday season. EA has told us this is unconfirmed, but won't reveal whether the title will be out in time for Christmas.

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is in development for PS3, 360, PS2 and PC. It will let you run riot around Venezuela and blow all sorts of things up, all in the pursuit of money.

There will be jump-in co-operative play - probably on all but PS2, and you'll be able to shoot down trees and foliage in case you don't carry a pen-knife with an axe on it.

The original Mercenaries game was released back in 2005 to favourable critical back-slapping. Pop over to our Mercenaries review to find out more.

Alternatively you can make your way over to our Mercenaries 2 gamepage to see how the new version is shaping up.

They really should try and make the most of GTAs absence.

They'll just whip their programmers some more and offer them 16 hour workdays without overtime pay until Christmas. Problem solved!

Mercenaries 2 looked a bit rough and ragged from the footage I've seen with loads of LOD issues and tearing so this delay is surely a good thing as it will allow the devs more time to polish the game up more.

I was interested in this game, until I played Warhawk, which ironically I had Mercenaries in my mind while playing it, so I'll think I'll pass on this one.

LOL - was just about to say the PS3 version was holding the others back then saw Eighthours and Beano were way ahead of me!!! :0)

Seams likely with all the other examples floating around at the moment (Fatal Inertia, AitD etc....). Either that or the winter 2007 line-up is being feared a little.

Actually... I've now said that for a few games... now I think on it, early 2008 might have a fairly decent line-up in itself!?!?!?

    Agree - as a PSwii60 owner, I'm having no problems finding quality games for Q4 2007 :)

    I guess it's because the PS3......... Oh....

For crying out LOUD. How many more games are going to slip by the wayside for Christmas/Holiday Season. That blasted Sony thing has got a lot to answer for...or something.

If Mass Effect slips again, Santa won't be bringing me any games.

    Sort it out, people.

Totally unsurprising. The version i played at Leipzig was so unfinished it was comical. Civilians fell out of the sky and splatted on the road, building fell over apropos of nothing. At one point the truck i was driving just randomly flew 20ff up in the air and exploded, which made me burst out laughing. On top of that, draw distance and texture pop in were really bad, with things literally appearing as you drove past them.

Oh, and this was all running on a 360, so no use blaming Sony.

Delays are good. Rather they delay it than risk another KotOR2.
