Dodgy Ninja Gaiden 2 content back on Live News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

31 July, 2008

Microsoft has popped the Ninja Gaiden 2 Mission pack back on Xbox Live, but there are still freezing problems that need "a little more time to figure out".

However, the Achievement hiccup has been solved, and anyone yet to unlock any of the 10 new rewards should be "good to go", according to Microsoft's Gamerscore blog.

Those who have already run into problems with the Achievements are advised to clear the console cache or recover their Gamertag.

To clear your console cache, go to the system blade in the Xbox 360 dashboard and select "memory". On the HD symbol press these buttons in sequence: X, X, left bumper, right bumper, X, X.

Once complete, a message will pop up asking if you want to perform maintenance on your storage devices. Yes you do. But remember: by clearing your cache you will need to download any software updates again.

The Ninja Gaiden 2 Mission Pack costs 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) and adds 10 new Achievements to the game.

So I have to clear my cache, reload all my patches, sorry 'updates', because MS and tecmo are incapable of testing their products?

Since I pay a subscription for xbox live I had assumed it was a professionally run service. apparently not.

Seems sony arn't the only ones letting dogey patches into the wild.

Having to re-download all software updates sounds like an utter ball ache.

If this happened on PSN, people would hide behind the "you get what you pay for" line.

Just goes to show, that even if you're a software company, and people pay a subscription charge, doesn't mean consumers are immune to this type of stuff.

That being said I'm suprised MS could let this type of thing slip through, and with what sounds like tedious workarounds.

glo & Steroyd:

What does paying for a subscription have to do with this *bug* that Team Ninja / Tecmo haven't fixed?

You do know that an update only takes a matter of seconds to be applied don't you?

It's not that big a deal really.

Not convenient but certainly not worth all the fuss being made here.

Patch still has to go through MS certification. :P
Not to mention doesn't MS have a more strict policy, to this kind of thing as well.

I'm just digressing, some people seem to think because MS is a software company etc etc, that they are far more adept at this sort of thing compared to Sony, and i'm forever wondering where that subscription money goes.

I dont think clearing your 360's cache is such a good idea.

I could swear you'd need to download all of your add-ons again - The Halo/CoD map packs take an age to download again.

You do not have to download add ons again.

Clearing the cache merely removes the updates and i speak from experience. You should do this as a matter of course anyway as if you've traded in old games then it removes updates that you don't need anymore.

...which still has nothing to do with XBL subscription fees...

So glad I'm refraining from finishing the game until they sort the patch out. I'd hate to have to recover my gamertag again like I had to for The Godfather. It takes nearly an hour for me.

I've been asked to re-download stuff but never after emptying the cache. I first did it as apparently it helps with games like oblivion for loading times.

I had to redownload some stuff after switching to an Elite console as it did not transfer my HD correctly. I lost some game saves too. That was a pain in the arse.

Shame the score system is completely retarded for survival mode and is more or less entirely dependant on luck thanks to the new essence colour. You could get 200 kills and another person 50 and get a lower score :/

Anyway, this was actually included on the disk of NGII but dropped because Tecmo probably needed something to finance their Itagaki lawsuit.

And apparantly the Mentor/Master Ninja missions are as cheap as ever, especially the double boss fights (Elizabet + Genshin anyone?)

This whole game was a cheap shot if you ask me. When it takes more luck than skill to do pretty much anything in the game, the game is broken. I'm sorry to see the way Tecmo treated Itagaki but, I'm not sorry to see his blatantly unfair game designs go with him.

It's not so much Acolyte/Warrior that are cheap, because the damage you sustain from attacks is pretty low, and such parts are pretty brief (though they couldn still be frustrating). On higher difficulties, the cheap stuff is more or less the entire game. I mean, who thought that Ninjas being able to suicide bomb you even if they're on full health was a good idea for Mentor/MN? They always do it at the exact moment where you cannot move after finishing an attack.

/plays NGB instead

Is this for real?? What other dodgy engineer's cheat codes are embedded in the 360's OS?

The karma attack missions are very good imo. The survival missions sucks though. I hate the enemies with rpgs. Getting even bronze medal on all of those seems immpossible for me. And im pretty good at NG2 i believe.
