DJ Jazzy Jeff to star in DJ Hero
He is the driver and you're on a rap ride.
In a move that makes a lot more sense than some ageing electric goths turning up in a zombie game, Activision has announced the latest legendary turntablist to grace DJ Hero with his likeness and his mixes: DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Although he's a successful record producer these days, Jeffrey Townes is best known for partnering with a young Will Smith in the feelgood hip-hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, and turning out such tireless floor-fillers and Boom! Shake the Room and Summertime.
DJ Jazzy Jeff will join the likes of DJ Shadow and Grandmaster Flash as a playable character in the rhythm action game. He also contributes two mixes of his own devising: Tears For Fears' Shout vs. Eric B. & Rakim's Eric B. Is President, and LL Cool J's Rock the Bells vs. The Aranbee Pop Symphony Orchestra doing Bittersweet Symphony.
"I am very, very excited DJ culture is finally getting its due. To have a song in DJ Hero is a dream come true; to be a character someone can pick up the controller and select you and play is probably the biggest thing to happen to me in my career," frothed the turntablist in the press release.
DJ Hero arrives in November for 360, PS3 and Wii. We think it sounds terrific if a little bit pricey.

When I used to live down in Bournemouth we used to go and see him DJ in a number of venues. I was always disappointed that I never saw him get thrown out the door once whilst standing in the queue.

Ah, another ex-Bournemouth resident. Good times were to be had at the Opera House on a Thursday night!

Yeah, those poor DJs never get any attention, flown around the world to international venues, or adulation despite playing someone else's music. Diddums.
