Champions Online to launch in June News

MMO PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

18 February, 2009

Atari has revealed that superhero MMO Champions Online will be out in June. However, the publisher didn't specify whether this will be a simultaneous PC and Xbox 360 launch.

Champions Online - created by City of Heroes developer Cryptic Studios - was picked up by Atari late last year.

We've not seen much of the game since then, other than some gameplay footage from Comic-Con.

Still, we're intrigued, given the obvious expertise behind the title.

Fly over to the freshly-launched European Champions Online website to find out more.

This'll be awesome. I never played CoX, so it probably seems more new to me, but just messing about with powers to get the right set-up will be a blast.

Will we have to pay for the game + live fee + subscription fee to play this?

GamesProgrammer, I'm assuming it'll be the same as Final Fantasy XI - you can play with a Silver account as long as you subscribe to the game itself. It's the CO servers you'll be using, after all.

Are Xbox and PC players using the same servers?

That's the idea. From the FAQ:

Q: Will console and PC players be on the same servers?
A: We would like that to be the case. There is nothing technologically keeping us from making it so.

So it should be.

That's good then, should mean they'll be nice and busy. Wonder if you can login with the same account details on both versions?

I'm hoping so, like Final Fantasy XI. That'd give me access in my home on a 360 (it'll run better), or at a mates house on his gaming PC.

Excellent.

I can't wait to pay £10 a month to be called a "gay fagget" by a load of 13-year old Internet thugs.

Or perhaps you could spout pathetic cliches all day long. I see you've made a start already!

To be fair, it'll probably be an alright community. If the Leagues carry on from the beta, just stick with me and we'll obliterate any opposition! I know a good bunch so far.

To be honest D, the more I see of CO, the more doubtful I am as to whether I'll bother with it.

I probably enjoy Guild Wars more to be honest. Nothing wrong with CO, it's all good, but as far as MMOs go I just prefer the good ol' fantasy settings.

I still play CoH, but CO just looks like CoH Lite to me...

Can't wait tbh. After hitting 50 in CoH it got a bit dull, so looking forward to this a lot!

I personally would take that as a 'No' myself. I have to say I am not fussed though, this does look very much like (as iokthemonkey said) COH Lite.

I remember being in the City of Heroes beta, and it was incredibly fun. I never got around to playing it thanks to WoW, but I might give this one a try if the reviews are decent. I don't want another WAR, that's for sure.
