Champ Man 08 this Christmas

Analyse this.

Eidos has announced that Championship Manager 2008 will be out this Christmas on PC. It will sport a redesigned look and is billed as the most accessible instalment in the series so far.

But unfortunately Eidos was unable to narrow down the exact date for us this afternoon, or confirm if the game will be coming to consoles.

This time around there will be more options to highlight and analyse key events that either won or lost you the game. You'll be able to see them as they happen using the new and more realistic 3D match engine, before picking them to pieces in the returning ProZone feature.

Players should act a little more believably now, too, and have personality traits which will influence how they behave for the full 90 minutes. We're told there will be 32 of these in total, which your players can learn through training if you want them to.

You'll be able to play with your friends on one computer, and there will be all the new and updated goings-on from the recently closed August transfer window - from as far away as the Australian league.

Championship Manager 2007 was a big step forward for developer Beautiful Game Studios, and presented a real alternative to the genre-leader Football Manager. Pop over to our Championship Manager 2007 review to find out more.

Alternatively you can see the first shots of the redesigned Championship Manager 2008 in our gallery.

Never got the point of "Pro-zone" - the entire match had to be replayed as far as I recall. The "Match Report" in FM is more useful. Perhaps they've improved "Pro-zone" but if it's anything like last time, it's pointless.

Player's acting believeably was never a big problem for me, it was the ball moreso - hopefully the ball's movement will this time be modelled on an actual football and not a balloon ....

Forgot to look at the screenies: massive improvement in the look of the game, at least that's good.

Cujo, choice makes life interesting and more enjoyable. Silly trolling has the opposite affect.

I'm only ever going to buy one management game a year and thats always going to be Football Manager.

I've got absolutely nothing against Champ at its ilk but each year Football Manager steals hundreds of hours from me, getting a second game of its type would be social suicide.

    @ Waffleaber.

You're only allowed to talk about Championship Manager on this page. That means no mentioning of Football Manager. Or you're a "troll". K?

"It will sport a resigned look..."

    Fixed!

Please Eidos, stop now. It's like being stalked by an ex-girlfriend.

There is nothing in the brief Eurogamer article that makes me the slight bit interested in getting this over any other Footie Manager game. Pro-Zone... I doubt that many people tend to analyse matches because it probably takes longer than watching the match on (Extended Highlights - an option in the game I play.) anyway.

Now if the Pro-zone gumpf worked in the background and fed interesting bits of information to the player such as "Kluivert is your least energetic player, he barely moves out of the penalty area and is a right goal hanger" or better, you wouldnt have to sit there like statto and pour over everything.

Besides, and this is the killer point for me; if the actual game of football looks rubbish and/or you don't believe the game to be accurate, you wont want to look at the weakest areas in-depth.

Champ Manager is starting to close the gap on FM on PC and actually has more depth on the PSP. This is good especially as LMA is taking a break and I've not hear anything about a new Fifa manager.
