Capcom unveils new Devil Kings game

Sengoku Basara 3 for 2010 release.

A Capcom teaser site has revealed that the company is making a third game in the Sengoku Basara series, known as Devil Kings in the west.

Sengoku Basara 3 will be released in 2010, according to the site, but no platforms are mentioned.

The series is Capcom's take on the hackandslash form epitomised by Koei's Dynasty Warriors, with a nominally historical setting and open battlefields awash with hundreds of enemies.

The first PS2 game made it to North America and Europe under the title Devil Kings in 2005, but the first sequel never left Japan, so don't hold out hope for a western version of Sengoku Basara 3.

Editor's note: So it wasn't Onimusha after all. Damn.

I love Dynasty Warriors style games, so I was sure that I'd love the first one, but I just didn't enjoy it much. It felt even more shallow than DW since it's version of the Musou bar needed you to use one specific attack button. You couldn't even mix it up much, if you used normal attacks you never built up enough power.

Plus they changed the character names and story entirely - the Japanese version was based on the same historical period as Samurai Warriors and the later Onimusha games. I'd have preferred that.

EDIT: Forgot that Onimusha teaser. Since they're based in the same time period, do you think it's a crossover? Stranger things have happened, though I doubt it. Nothing wrong with speculation :)

Ah, so I was right. :p

Though I would have preferred a new Onimusha game... Though I never played these types of games, might be fun. :)
