BlizzCon 2007 details
Second convention in August.
Blizzard has announced plans for its second BlizzCon gaming convention today, which will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center on the 3rd and 4th of August.
Everyone from age four and up is invited along to celebrate the company's biggest and best franchises, enjoying a wide variety of different activities from dressing up to sound-alike contests.
Tickets are expected to go on sale on the official website in the next few months, and will cost you USD 100 per person.
Those of you attending will be able to take part in panel discussions with Blizzard developers, who will also be around signing various commemorative memorabilia that will be on sale. Casual and competitive tournaments will be held for both videogames and the new World of Warcraft trading card game, and there will be a live orchestral performance of music from the Diablo, Warcraft and StarCraft games.
A silent auction is also going to feature, and more activities are expected to be announced in the future.
"We were gratified by the response to our first BlizzCon in 2005 and have been looking for an opportunity to hold a follow-up event ever since," stated Mike Morhaime, president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With BlizzCon 2007, we plan to deliver another entertaining and informative experience for the attendees, and we look forward to meeting all of them again this year."

Actually, the vast majority of the WoW community is happy with the upcoming addition of new content and balancing changes.

I'd settle for Gurky.

I don't want World of Starcraft, I just want Starcraft II or something to continue the storyline from where Brood War left off.

I have to say - as an on-off WoW player I don't get why they need to keep tweaking half these classes. Some of them have taken Blizzard a lot of time to balance out, to smooth over. Some of them more or less seem to be as good as they'll get. Now Blizzard plans to bulldoze some of them and strip them of their balance, more or less killing off one or two specifications of classes. That really bothers me, because in the end - even if the end result they have intended is better - it's the paying customers in that period of testing, tweaking and work that get screwed over, surely? They never seem to get it right, or hold off until they get it right. They just make the changes and promise they'll correct any issues in the future.
Still. WoW keeps me in touch with friends - the reason I started. Though I know most of them are really getting bored of WoW. The moment they move on, is probably the time I move on as well (I think that'll come with Warhammer or Conan). I think perhaps what WoW needs is some competition... I'm sure Blizzard would take notice. As for Blizzcon... meh. Bunch of fanboys who've probably not played any other game for two years. Though to be fair, I'm sure some of the worst won't turn up... it involves going "outside". They're afraid of that big ball of fire in the sky...

Some people are dedicated/mad enough to travel half across the globe for these things. I wouldn't, although I'm still going to PAX.

"oh noes i is get nerfed f*** blizz i quit wow lol"
But in the end most of the changes are accepted and the class balance is only getting better.
Anyway.. the most important things in 2.1 are not class changes but new content, UI improvements, etc..

Yea.. they plan to "bulldoze" them. Sure.
They are just changins come skills, ffs! Stay calm! The world IS NOT going to explode!

I've heard all this stuff from people whinging over it. To be honest, I had to go read to try and see what balance was being brought in - surprisingly little as of yet but I don't think this is the end of the story by a long shot (It'd be commercial idiocy otherwise). End game raiding pals of mine have said they'll not bother taking pallys in for anything other than the "free epics" bosses. The opinions have already begun to change. Paladins are beginning to feel the hurt before the patch even hits, which makes the game unpleasant for people paying money to enjoy themselves.
I couldn't give two shits either way - I have a rogue and a hunter (and rogues are getting a tasty buff). However, I fully see why people are complaining over this patch - and until Blizzard get around to actually implementing some actual balance into these big nerfs they're hammering down on their customers, I'd say the rest of us have no right to tell them to stop. I think it's all too easy for you and me and others to be so flippant about this, so "Who Cares?". But the people complaining pay monthly to play a game, and when Blizzard make that game nigh impossible for the player - yeah. I remember backalong during the Ranger changes in FFXI, so many people left or changed their class, that less than a fortnight later they got massively buffed again. Precedents are already set.
But I do agree that some should take it less seriously. After all, not long now and Blizzard will have some competition, so people CAN have a choice. But whilst people pay for WoW, if changes hurt the way they play and make it more difficult, less enjoyable or just near impossible - the rest of us should just let them by. They have a right to be pissy.
