Blizzard fixes WarCraft III hacks

Ent it a bit late now?

Blizzard, not short of things to do, has burped out a patch for Warcraft III - a game eight years old.

The update fixes "tower hack", "summon/cooldown hack", "new crash hack", "phoenix hack" and " sheep hack" exploits.

Full patch notes are on the Blizzard support site, as are sign-posts to download locations.

Long-tail support like this is common for Blizzard, whose old games like Warcraft III, StarCraft and Diablo II still attract a loyal following.

No wonder Diablo III isn't out until 2050.

I almost feel like installing WoW again.
  • icematt12 #3 2 years ago

At least the Blizzard side knows how to keep customers happy, maybe could have been done a little sooner though.

If only lucasarts would follow suit and fix that x-wing bug that stopped it working with my gravis ultrasound.
  • levitate #7 2 years ago

Maybe they can bugfix Warcraft I and II while they're at it?
  • Merlinho #8 2 years ago

How is WoW as old as Warcraft III exactly?
  • TelexStar #9 2 years ago

That's an impressive display of logic.
  • geeza2020 #10 2 years ago

    retrend -
so anything that comes out over a five year period (half a decade as you said) has actually been released at the same time? i think you might be confused as to how long a five year period actually is....

"Ent it a bit late now?"

My bet is that for Diablo II and Warcraft III there is a few guys working in their basement doing patches for these games whilst juggling old support queries for decade old games.

Although I wouldn't villify smaller companies for such lack of support cos if the publisher's don't give them the money they can't afford the luxuries iD Software, Valve, Blizzard and Bioware have.

EA and Konami though...can rot in hell.

The Warcraft III patches have been coming out regularly for a number of years now, it's not like this latest one is the first in eight years, EG, as you seem to be implying! The recent patches have been small incremental ones, v1.24a - v1.24b - v1.24c... right up to the current one which is v1.24e.

Clutching at straws now Retrend, give it up.

WoW is only 5 years old itself for God's sake.
  • penguin_overlord #14 2 years ago

Eight years on, it's still an awesome game. I hope Blizzard make a Warcraft 4 after they get the next Starcraft and Diablo games out of the way, although at the rate they develop it probably won't be out until 2015.
  • crazyhorse174 #15 2 years ago

@retrend: I was born in 1980, my brother in 1982 and my sister in 1985. Going by your logic, we were actually all born at the same time and really triplets!

Thats going to come as a surprise to my mother...
  • Lemming81 #16 2 years ago

    oh ffs.

Retrend, It was released in November 2004. It celebrated it's 5 year anniversay last November. We are in March. It is over six months away from being '6 years old'.

do you round everything up/down to suit yourself? I hope you aren't an accountant.
  • kangarootoo #17 2 years ago

    @retrend

"when stuff gets to a certain age, yeh, a 5year period is an acceptable..."

That might be true, but I'm not sure less than 10 years is really that "certain age". Go back 50 years, then we might be talking.

And there is no need to spit your dummy out. You said something a bit daft without thinking. Well all do it sometimes (me, on a daily basis). The best thing you can do is just say "dunno wot I was on about there, in hindsight, that was nonsense" and take it on the chin. Hammering stubbornly away at the same square peg is no way to go.

"spot the angry wow nerd, crying in his chips cos he doesnt want to admit hes wasting his life on something that is old as hell."

That's some amazing insight there. I'm staggered you inferred that from a post questioning your ability to follow the concept of time.

The only one who appears to be 'crying into his chips' is you, mate.

    @crazyhorse174

Not triplets but you are all "in your 20's" though (unless you've had your b'day in the last three and a half months in which case happy 30th Birthday) which is what I think retrend was getting at... they're of same period, there's not a great generational leap between them.

@retrend - I'm with you (kind of)! Not quite sure why you're getting slammed...

This is one going to be one of them arguments that'll never end (Like people who state that the new millenium should have been celebrated on 31/12/2000 instead of 31/12/1999)

The big question is, who is going to be more mature and drop the issue first?
  • kangarootoo #21 2 years ago

"The big question is, who is going to be more mature and drop the issue first?"

    That is dynamite! :)
  • speed182 #22 2 years ago

    @icematt12

I wish Blizzard could keep their customers happy, my server has been down for 14 days+ at raid times on WoW, with the old: "We're working as quickly as possible to fix this."

    With no mention of compensation.
  • JeremyRPS #23 2 years ago

Let's just say they're both part of a certain generation of games. Like pong and Starcraft.
  • Shakey_Jake33 #24 2 years ago

There is also the simple fact that World of Warcraft is Blizzard's main source of income (not to mention the most popular MMO in the world), and generates millions for them.

By comparison, Warcraft III is basically legacy and retired.

    They can't be lumped together.
  • TelexStar #25 2 years ago

We better re-write the history books to say the 1st and 2nd World Wars basically took place at the same time.
  • Number1Laing #26 2 years ago

spot the angry wow nerd, crying in his chips cos he doesnt want to admit hes wasting his life on something that is old as hell.

So wait, old games stop being good after 5 years? Don't tell that to StarCraft or Street Fighter fans.

How does every single comment thread manage to degenerate into brainless argu-shit?

    OT:
Glad to see this has been released, roll on the new D2 patch n' ladder!

Oh, nice firery thread to read on a mild Wednesday morning! It would appear retrend has dissapeared into Northrend once more!
  • Psi #29 2 years ago

Don't know why that guys talking about shoes, I got scared and took mine off under the desk just in case.

I love Warcraft 3, and its always been patched, and good, well the game anyway, battlenet is the lowest of the low eurotrash smack talking evil (i count uk in that euro crack too) that has ever graced this planet.

to pause for a moment, to delay make the slightest mistake, a slightly higher ping, one moment when you've caused lag...

... will result in a hail of abuse you would only ever expect at the public hanging of hitler.

now that i've said hitler this threads officially closed.
