Atari dates Riddick: Dark Athena

Vin Diesel returns in late April.

Atari has stamped a 24th April release date on The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.

Frustratingly, Americans will be able to play the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 game weeks earlier on 7th April.

Dark Athena is essentially a remake of Escape from Butcher Bay, which wowed on Xbox back in 2004. However, Atari and developer Starbreeze have tried hard to make Dark Athena stand out of its own accord, adding a new story and enticing online multiplayer modes to the mix.

We played the game recently and concluded that The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena will be one to watch this year; creeping around in the dark and snapping necks is ever so much fun.

Head over to our hands-on preview of Dark Athena to find out why.

    Woo, sooner than I expected, as it hasn't been that long since it was announced. Thank god MS don't announce games years before release like Sony do - GT5 and FFXIII I'm looking at you -.-

    I always thought the multiplayer was going to be ropey, after literally, only just watching a MP gameplay video, it unfortunately looks like those concerns were well placed. Oh well, was only really looking forward to the single player anyway, would have just been an added bonus if the MP was any good.

    Oooh. PS3 import it is then. Assuming it hasn't been messed up of course.

    Well The Darkness didn't run terribly well on the PS3, based on the demo, and couldn't even manage 720p or any anti-aliasing so if you own both consoles I'd hold out for the 360 version personally. Me, I'm picking up the PC version! :D

    Anyone knows if it's the Developer's Cut edition or regular one that the Butcher Bay-part of Dark Athena is build on?

    @Masternameless

    Did yo miss the part that this has nothing to do with MS?

    @menage

    Nope, as I said, I had just literally saw the MP video on gametrailers a few minutes before reading the article. Can you blame me for it being on my mind? It is kind of related too, being the same game and all, and just thought I'd confirm that it does indeed look as terrbile as most of us expected. It was a seperate paragraph as a side note, that was the idea anyway.

    Thought somebody might be interested.

    EDIT: Bugger! I read your comment as nothing to do with MP, no MS! Oh okay, good point, did miss that :p It was a knee-jerk reaction as I'm sick of waiting an age for games I'm really looking forward to, as I am with Riddick, and how nice it is to not wait years for it! ^_^

    Bugger! It was coming end of March.

    April may be hard for me, there is a shed load of Star Trek on Blu at the end of April which demands my cash and I now have nothing to trade :(

    Maybe I can get Mrs bad09 to buy it for me....

    / plots...
