50 per cent off Crysis and Warhead

Another Steamy weekend offer.

Some combination of EA, Crytek and Valve has cut the price of Crysis and Crysis Warhead on Steam by 50 per cent until Monday.

Crysis is available for a frankly derisory £9.99, and so is its little brother.

Still one of the best-looking PC first-person shooters ever made, Crysis drops you onto an island in a fancy suit and lets you take it to some of the most advanced AI in the business, employing various super skills alongside ultraviolent gunplay.

All of which was enough to convince us to give it a handsome 9/10 review. Warhead was shorter, viewing events from another angle, but no less engaging for our money.

There is a pretty good deal on Overload as well, 75% off Overloard+expansion and Overlord 2. £6.49 for the lot.

What's the point of having SecuROM and 5-activations limit on the Steam version of Warhead? The activations limit especially is in contrast with the "install anywhere" nature of Steam.

Great deal but in all honesty these weekend deals are the only time I'd ever consider purchasing ANYTHING from Steam because new releases are typically overpriced and sell for the recommended retail price of £34.99 and even £39.99 on occasion. I already have Crysis and Crysis Warhead which cost me £14.99 each a year ago. Ironically at the time I bought them Crysis was £39.99 on Steam!!! :o

How on earth Steam make any money from selling new games I don't know... surely people aren't daft enough to pay their new release prices when you can pick up the retail versions for as little as £20 on some sites like Amazon and Play.com? You even get a "backup" disc, case with a tasteful cover and a tacky manual thrown in for no extra cost! ;)

    frankly derisory £9.99

It's an OK deal, but Crysis is nearly three years old now so it's not exactly amazing. Bought way too much from Steam in the last month anyway...
  • bad09 #7 2 years ago

Yeah gotta agree with Darren I only really buy the packs of games, old cheap games or Steam deals, some of the new game pricing is just not worth it.

A tenner is reasonable and at EA do specials (I got Warhead for a fiver the other week), take a look at the MW1 price on Steam and be thankful EA do at least look at pricing as their games get older.

I'm a sucker for these deals. I went ahead and bought the two games last night even though I already had Crysis (1st one) on disc for the last two years! It's just so convenient to have them on Steam!

But, I'm a bit worried by the comment that says Warhead has a 5 activation limit on Steam? Can someone explain this? How could that work on Steam? Am I allowed download and install it 5 times and that's it?

Surely it's been updated/patched since its launch to get rid of this requirement, I need to be able to download and install it as many times as I like (I do that a lot - for space issues)...

    @cianchristopher :

You'll see the limit mentioned under the "3rd-party DRM" section of the game details, right below the metacritic score. I don't think they have been patched/removed, as it would be in EA's best interest not to mention them at all in that case.

Maybe the steam forums can shed more light on this.

"Still one of the best-looking PC first-person shooters ever made"

I say it was still the best-looking game ever made. Period.

  • cianchristopher #11 2 years ago

That's balls, if that's the case!

Fucked if I'm gonna "de-authorise" every time I wanna delete the game (which could be for any reason)....

I think it's time for an email to EA...

Is this an issue for Dead Space, Burnout Paradise, Mass Effect also? Cos I have them on Steam too...

Convenient even at twice the price? As I posted above you can get both games for under £12. Digital distribution ultimately saves the publishers and developers money, surely that saving should be passed to you... Not using "convenience" as an excuse to charge more.
  • JonFE #13 2 years ago

None of these games mention 3rd party DRM on their pages, so I guess there's no issue with them...

Sweet! Haven't got these yet. Fun weekend ahoy... oh, I'm visiting girlfriend :(
  • TheVoice #15 2 years ago

If they were a fiver each I'd grab Crysis (already got Warhead from the EA online store for £4 the other day), but £10 is rubbish really.
  • bad09 #16 2 years ago

    @ warzin

    Damn I missed that! :(

I'm hoping it gets a deal (either on EA store or Steam), I know the current £15 is nothing for DS but I already paid for the 360 version. I love the game so really want to see the PC version just don't want to spend double figures on it.

UK retail prices = ridiculously low. Steam isn't exactly cheap here, but certainly more competitive than in the UK. And I see the lack of a box as an advantage. Surely people aren't daft enough to actually put a box on their shelf when they can get the game without all that hassle, to turn your question around? If it costs the same on Steam (or just little more), I'll gladly take the unlimited downloads anywhere/no disc needed/automatic updates alternative instead of yet another tacky piece of plastic on my shelf.

Oh man, I feel like such an idiot, I just bought Warhead a couple of weeks ago from the EA store! If only I'd waited I could have got it for £9.99 instead of £3.40... wait what?
