How Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens expands the film's story

Including: the official canon tale of C-3PO's red arm.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens' reveal last week may not have been too much of a surprise - but the announcement included an intriguing detail.

The game's press release briefly mentioned story levels set between the series' original films and Episode 7.

Now, we know what some of these moments will include.

As we suspected, these levels will contain canonical story details from some of Lucasfilm's officially-licensed Journey to The Force Awakens brand of books and graphic novels.

One level will detail how C-3PO gained his new red hand, Game Informer reports, a tale which is first being told in an upcoming Marvel comic.

Another level will add in extra scenes with Han and Chewie capturing the Rathtar creatures - the cargo they are smuggling at the beginning of Episode 7.

The image below - which we couldn't place from Episode 7's main storyline - may come from this level.

Six backstory levels will be included in the game, and will pop up at various points through the main story (although you'll need to have collected a certain number of golden bricks to unlock them).

"We've covered - or are in the process of covering - some pretty significant events that happen before the film that give people more information about why certain things in The Force Awakens happened and why certain characters have ended up where they are," lead designer Mike Taylor said.

"We tell the story through the sort of Lego viewpoint as well, so the crux of the story is what happens is true to the IP, obviously we put gags in with characters holding sausages or riding around on pigs, et cetera."
