Next Metal Gear Solid targets "high-end consoles", "next-gen" Fox engine

Job ad Ocelot to take in.

Alternative MGS cast: Big Boss Man, Jake the Snake...

Kojima Productions has dropped strong hints that the next big Metal Gear Solid game - presumably MGS5 - will be a next-generation game.

A job mini-site, erected specially for developer-magnet GDC, advertised for staff to help with "the latest Metal Gear Solid targeted for high-end consoles and PC".

Also sought are engineers to "help develop next-gen game engine technology for use with the Fox engine".

The website itself is titled, "Big Boss wants YOU! The 'next' MGS."

Nowhere does Kojima Productions explicitly state that this next Metal Gear Solid game will be a next-generation title. But mention of "high-end consoles" - why not name them if they're PS3 and Xbox 360? -and "next-gen game engine technology" provides an unmistakable wink and nudge.

Studio leader Hideo Kojima has teased the capabilities of Fox Engine before, linking the technology to Project Ogre - an open world military game.

Can we assume Project Ogre is Metal Gear Solid 5, then?

    The teasy artwork they released is pretty cool.

    Metal Gear MMO?
  • sfp_noodle #3 3 months ago

    It would make sense for Kojima to make them next-gen titles. I mean I personally don't think we need another MGS game unless they start with a whole new storyline and characters. But then how many Metal Gears are the bad guys going to create when you go by their poor history? Snake, Raiden and Big Boss have destroyed them so many times throughout a 50 year timeline.

    If they do carry on the franchise then please reboot it Kojima. New characters, new storyline - Make it fresh. Maybe try and move on from Metal Gears too because despite being massive robots of nuclear destruction, every boss fight I've had against one of those things has been alarmingly easy. I'm sure most people would agree.

    What's the betting it'd already work fine on current-gen PCs, but we're going to have to wait for the console manufacturers to get their acts together and release the next gen before anyone gets to play it?
  • RNX-Lanky #5 3 months ago

    How long have you been sitting on that title pun , waiting to use it? :D

    Big news here is they mentioned PC! Will wait and see if anything actually materialises, but I was pretty surprised!
  • bad09 #8 3 months ago

    Ooh I we knew they were going multiplatform on the new one but PC is getting the next MGS to? Nice. Coulda done that on 4 though Konami would have saved me buying a PS3 for one game! :)

    @Cjail

    Betrayed because more people will play and buy a game? Grow up you child.
  • slippysloppy #10 3 months ago

    Let's hope they make a game this time instead of hours of tedious cutscenes.

    This is good news

    MGS 1 reboot please. And no, Twin Snakes doesn't count.
  • bobdebob #13 3 months ago

    If its like MGS4 I don't want it. My 1st run through I did on Hard mode, I had a total game time of 19 hours meaning only 10 hours of actual gameplay.

    1080p/60 with 720p/120 3D option?

    Make it happen, hardware-wise Sony/MS. Gooooooooo Oooooon!
  • Lexx87 #15 3 months ago

    Didn't Kojima say he isn't doing to do another MGS after 4, as it was way too much hard work?
  • bobdebob #16 3 months ago

    @Lexx87

    Nutcases probably sent him death threats like the last time.
  • bad09 #17 3 months ago

    @Lexx87

    Doesn't he say that after every MGS?
  • Sicho #18 3 months ago

    @Cjail lol the first Metal Gear games were on the MSX and the NES, the first Metal Gear Solid had a reboot on the Gamecube (and in my opinion, it's the better version!), MGS2 was available on the Xbox and PC and the recently released Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is also available on the Xbox 360. Oh, and MGS3 gets a remake on the 3DS as well.

    In short: MGS4 is the only Sony-Exclusive MGS-Title (especially since PEace Walker is also available on the X360 because it's in the HD Collection) ... and maybe that won't last forever as well.

    Saying that MGS is part of the "Playstation Identity" is like saying Final Fantasy is part of that brands identity ... but the sad thing is, I bet there are some chaps out there that think exactly like that

    While only a complete idiot would feel "betrayed" by multiplatform games to be fair to him MGS is pretty much part of the PS brand and has been since MGS1 and 3 and 4 were exclusive to Sony (well as you say 3 no longer is now but you know what I mean).

    @Sicho Just like that there are chaps out there that think Twin Snakes is the better version
  • Cjail #23 3 months ago

    @bad09
    I din't say that...I din't even think it.

    @Sicho
    I let my feelings for the MGS franchise blind me, even if I know that very well :(
    The fact is that I still feel that MGS is deeply connected to the PlayStation and is indeed ONE important part of its identity/story.

    Please forgive a fan that, sometimes, speak through its heart.

    ...er....

    "If MGS5 will be released also on Xbox, as a PlayStation owner, I will really feel betrayed"

    What did I imagine?

    @bad09
    I simply said something rather naive on the spur of the moment...Sometimes it happens ;)
    Now I cancelled that post.

    Well fair enough you deleted it but it was still an incredibly stupid and fanboy thing to say. ;)

    I really don't understand these metal gear solid games.
    It's just two hours of bad anime.
  • Sicho #28 3 months ago

    @LHH well the graphics were better, the loading times were better, the gamepad was better and the videos were finally how Hideo wanted them to be ... so it's the definitive version of the game ;) And you had Yoshi in it!
  • maybe_mike123 #29 3 months ago

    Big Boss Man! lol

    Shame Fox engine can't deal with tyres. They look like wooden blocks with painted on tread.

    Since when does "Next Gen" mean Next Gen?

    :)

    Seriously that term has been abused to death this gen.
  • ilmaestro #32 3 months ago

    Who on Earth thought that MGS5 *wouldn't* be on the "next-gen" at this point. Have you not seen how much trouble the current ones have running top-end games these days?
  • WandaMaximoff #33 3 months ago

    Im so BORED of this studio.... They dont know there A** form there elbow!

    ONE MGS game this gen.... REALLY? ?? ? And it wasn't even that great.... personally i couldn't give a crap what they are doing next gen im still waiting to see something brilliant this gen?
