PlayStation Vita: where's the cheapest price?

UPDATE: Asda £97 when you trade in a 3DS.

The cheapest place to buy PlayStation Vita in the UK when it launches on Wednesday is at Asda. The supermarket will sell the Wi-Fi version online and in store for £197. The 3G version is £259.

Asda will knock £100 off the Vita price - of either model - when you trade in a 3DS. Confirm it via tradein.asda.com and you'll receive a £100 off voucher to redeem with your Vita purchase.

Sainsbury's will sell you a Wi-Fi Vita for £200 and a 3G Vita for £250, but only when bought with a game. Otherwise they will cost £229.99 or £279.99, respectively.

Tesco, meanwhile, will sell you a Wi-Fi Vita for £229.91 no strings attached.

Game/Gamestation and HMV are selling Vita in stores for £229.99 (the Wi-Fi model) or £279.99 (the more expensive 3G and Wi-Fi version).

Online, next cheapest after Asda for the Wi-Fi version is SimplyGames. It is charging £199.99, but will surreptitiously slap on another £5.95 for courier delivery.

Then there's ShopTo. There, the Wi-Fi version costs £209.86. It also has the best online price for the 3G version, £259.85. Shopto also has several bundle options available which pack Vita with a small selection of games. One worth highlighting is the Wi-Fi Vita plus Dungeon Hunter, Lumines, Rayman Origins and a 4GB memory card for £269, which shrinks the price of each title to under £20.

The cheapest place for the 3G version online is currently ConsolesAndGadgets.co.uk when you use a 10 per cent off voucher from MyVoucherCodes. This brings the price to £256.48.

Many online retailers (including Shopto and Asda) are offering a free Pre-Order Pack with your purchase. It contains in-ear headphones, exclusive avatar items for PlayStation Home, early access to Frobisher Says! on Vita and a £5 discount for one of four downloadable titles: Little Deviants, Super Stardust Delta, Hustle Kings and Escape Plan.

Amazon does not include the Pre-Order pack, but instead will gift gamers with a free 8GB memory card when bought with PlayStation Vita. Amazon also hosts a build-your-own bundle offer where you can get a selected game for £15, from a choice of Asphalt Injection, Michael Jackson: The Experience, Rayman Origins, Dungeon Hunter Alliance, Lumines Electronic Symphony or Virtua Tennis 4 - meaning some of these are better than half price.

Play.com is £3 more expensive than Amazon, but offers the above Pre-Order Pack as well as matching Amazon's offer of a free 8GB memory card. Not bad. Bundles vary wildly in price but all include the Vita and 8GB memory card plus a game.

GameStop is selling the Wi-Fi Vita with selected games for £219.99, two pence more than its standard Wi-Fi Vita price of £219.97. Not want any of those games? Any other title can be bought in a bundle for £239.99.

It's also worth checking your local Sony Centre. Some stores are offering the Wi-Fi Vita for £219.99 with a free £40 voucher to spend on PlayStation Network content (another HotUKDeals spot).

All details are correct at the time of writing but these things can change, and quickly. If you see an updated offer or something else worth telling others about, let us know in the comments thread below. We'll be keeping this article updated all week.

Not sure how Asda can sell it that cheap but fair play to them!

Got a sneaky feeling these things are going to be in short supply........

Random. I usually get blu-rays on the saturday before release and games the friday after.

I went with the Morrison's pre-order deal but that's expired now. Wifi Vita, 4 gig memory card, FIFA and a £25 gift voucher for £250! That gift voucher will no doubt be getting spent immediately on Uncharted :)

Only downside is I would've liked an 8 gig card but will make do with 4 gig for now
  • super_monty #8 3 months ago

    @TipTop

Usually excellent, I often use them and Shopto.
  • Darren #9 3 months ago

I pre-ordered mine for ShopTo for around £229 with FIFA Football and the pre-order pack. Considering the game sells at £37-£40 on its own, I thought that was a pretty good deal on the hardware myself. It actually makes the PSV cheaper than Asda's price actually.

Getting my WiFi Vita for £99 at Game, albeit by trading in a 3DS.. Totally worth it tho!
  • reelbigkris #11 3 months ago

I'm a little irritated with gamestation's secrecy over their bundle deals. I preordered and they still won't tell me what deals are available at launch. It's a shame i could not just fork out the £230 cash for this on amazon as it is probably one of the better deals. alas, I had to trade in a bunch of old unwanted games towards it and got a £350 credit note at gamestation.
  • HiddenAway #12 3 months ago

"£5 discount for downloadable titles Little Deviants, Super Stardust Delta, Hustle Kings and Escape Plan"

Should be clarified that it's £5 off for ONE of the 4 titles. Not all 4.

not much hope in my experience.....
  • Eraysor #14 3 months ago

I ordered mine from Play.com, mainly because it's a tad cheaper than the Amazon deal for a 8gb memory card and Rayman Origins and you get the preorder pack thrown in too, which has £5 off another game in it and makes it even cheaper. I can handle waiting a few days. I doubt Play.com would risk sending such an expensive item by Royal Mail 2nd Class anyway!
  • onezeonx #15 3 months ago

@Zombie-Hamster Remember that £25 voucher needs to be spent 24 hours AFTER you receive from what i gather.
Maybe its dated for use from the 23rd or something??

Amazon WiFi model plus 8gb card for £209.99 (plus £2.50 p&p first class delivery as their free delivery doesn't guarantee you'll receive on release day)

Wifi version, Uncharted, 8gb Card and pre order pack all for £243 from Play seemed the best deal around to me (if you want Uncharted of course).

I decided to go with amazon.co.uk/ I got the wireless/3G, Lumines electronic symphony for my partner, Fifa for me to get me started and an 8 GB memory card for 322 pound. Not bad really
  • Mark1412 #19 3 months ago

Those Game/HMV prices are laughable. I know they've got overheads but they could at least try and be competitive. Got Lumines, Wi-Fi console and an 8GB memory card for less than their Wi-Fi console.

  • johnson81 #23 3 months ago

Thanks Eurogamer, didn't know about the Play.com deal. Just cancelled my Amazon order and swapped it for the Play deal to get the free starter pack.

    So for £263
    Vita Wi-Fi
    Virtua Tennis 4
    8gb Memory Card
    Starter Pack &
    Uncharted

    Not a bad deal.

Hmv is £230 for vita with uncharted or fifa pretty good for a bricks n mortar shop
  • LLJaf #28 3 months ago

@Rens11 Do you know if the deal is pre order only or not?
  • seeafish #29 3 months ago

@LLJaf I'm sure they said it will be 10% cheaper for digital, which isn't much mind you!
Also, seeing £197 gives me hope of buying one second hand for £100 in a year or so.
  • ronecvan_is_here #30 3 months ago

@Cowbomb, to reiterate or paraphrase what onezeonx said, troll eleswhere, if you're not going to buy it; good because a grand total of zero people give a shit.
  • cynical #31 3 months ago

@LLJaf Its been reported and confirmed by Sony that digital copies of games are going to be about 10% cheaper. ofcourse, that's refering to the rrp, which most stores dont stick to anyways.
  • evild_edd #32 3 months ago

In a moment of excitement I almost just ordered from play.com (wifi, starter pack, 8gig mem card, Uncharted). Then I took a deep breath, looked at my bank balance, remembered my backlog of unplayed games, and decided I just couldn't afford it....

Excitable Edd wants this now. Sensible Edd realises I can sate my gaming needs without it. Must be getting old when sensible wins over excitable....

I like the looks of Vita though. If I still had a regular train commute, this would've been purchased.
  • BBIAJ #33 3 months ago

I went with the 3G model plus Ridge Racer for £269.86 from ShopTo.net, as that way RR is free, and it comes with a pass for more cars and tracks, and the £15 it would have cost from Zavvi.com can go towards more DLC as and when it arrives.

I was originally going to get WipEout 2048, but may as well get the free digital copy when I top up the Vodafone SIM with £5.
  • Mikeeeboy1 #34 3 months ago

Getting my Wi-Fi model from gamestation with uncharted , 8 Gb memory card and starter pack for £299.( a bit pricey I must admit BUT )
    Trading 3ds = £130 trade,Mario Land 3d = £30 trade,Mario Kart 7 = £30 and ghost recon 3ds =£10 trade.
Plus i have a £40 gift card and £10 deposit.
So grand total for Vita = £50
    HAPPY DAYS
  • makeamazing #35 3 months ago

Vita (Wi-Fi) + Dungeon Hunter (Free game)
    4gb memory card
    Uncharted
    Army Corps of hell
    Shinobido 2
    Touch my Katarmari

for £274 from Shopto.com it was meant to be £334 but they gave me back £60 as store credit for some reason...? That let me get Last Story and Binary Domain for nothing. plus £17 worth of points. Very happy with that.

@TipTop Looks like since the take over by the Ratuken group it's gone down a bit. Just got confirmation 1 hour ago that Uncharted is despatched. But the Console is still in the warehouse for processing (been in that status for 5 days now) So looking unlikely to get it delivered by Wednesday.

    Edit
    ----

Just received this email. I guess it will be delivered by Wednesday then.

    Dear

    Thank you for pre-ordering PlayStation Vita Console Bundle + Virtua Tennis 4 + 8GB Memory Card - Wi-Fi & 3G (With Pre-Order Pack).

We wanted to let you know that we have received our stock in the warehouse and that your order will be dispatched tomorrow (Tuesday 21st February) via our courier DPD for delivery on Wednesday 22nd February.

Once your order has been processed and dispatched from our warehouse you will receive a confirmation email. Please note that this item will require a signature upon delivery therefore please ensure that someone is available to sign for the item.

Thanks again for pre-ordering with Play.com and we hope that you enjoy the new PlayStation Vita.

    Kind Regards

  • abigsmurf #44 3 months ago

Went with play.com. £242 for vita + 8gb + uncharted was the best deal for what I wanted.

Mildly annoyed that everyone else using play.com seems to have had their order dispatched today. They took my money on Friday morning and it's been "processing in warehouse" ever since. Could end up getting it late without being able to do anything about it.
  • walidb123 #45 3 months ago

I got the bundle from play.com. rayman, 8gb card, preorder pack - for 227 it's quite decent but i'm hoping it comes in time. saving a fiver on super stardust is nice and then i'll eventually buy wipeout.

i haven't preordered a console before because they've always been crazy expensive. woot!!

Peeps trading in their 3ds for this? really? 3ds is on a bit of a roll for me at the moment, not sure i'd hand it over for a trade in with some of the games on e-shop and releasing over the next few months.

The only thing i want to play on vita so far is Uncharted but not so much i'd trade my 3ds...

mmmm, Vita! I'm very close to biting... Tried one out in GAME (best thing they can do is allow me a Vita demo) - very impressed. Lovely bit of kit and I think the games will be fantastic. I'm predicting a hit here for Sony, despite Japan's not-so-hot reception.
  • Fallen_Angel #55 3 months ago

@Sonic_D While its a bit annoying remote play doesn't work sans hacking, From what I've seen the top corners of the touch pad on the back act as R2/L2 and the bottom as R3/L3.

  • alexbulluk #65 3 months ago

    I went with Play.com.

Vita, 8GB Memory card, Rayman: Origins and the Pre-Order pack (those headphones look sexy) for £227.99 - not a bad deal, I reckon. Just annoyed I can't afford to get Uncharted too!

Wonder what time my local 24 hour ASDA will start selling them, I start work at about 0500 on Wednesday, it'd be sweet if I could pick one up before work. Doubt they'd allow it though, been in similar situations before and they came up with some bollocks excuse.

Well, my ShopTo order appears to be winging its way across the country as I type in the back of a DPD van!

I can't see my F1 2011 arriving anytime soon from Zavvi though, as it hasn't even been processed yet... :-(
  • dillingerdan #69 3 months ago

For reference. DO NOT get the Uncharted bundle @ Play if you are buying more than 1 game. It costs £15 more than the bundles containing games that are typically £3-£5 cheaper...
  • Bonders99 #70 3 months ago

@dillingerdan Thats exactly what I did. Thought about the uncharted bundle and Virtua tennis, but it worked out cheaper by about £16 if I bought the Virtua Tennis bundle with Uncharted ;-)
  • hilts #71 3 months ago

I have used play and amazon for many years but play have gone very downhill lately , worse since their takeover like someone else said earlier.
I preordered the 3ds and a couple of games from there - they were all allegedly dispatched three days before launch,
The 3ds (luckily a bundle with a game) turned up on launch day , but the games turned up a WEEK later!
So this time I have plumped for amazon
  • Drygore #72 3 months ago

    @hideous1978

Seriously.. Just the Vita-launch lineup is better than all the 3DS games released up til now.. I got my Vita yesterday (connections), and i don't miss my 3DS the slightest! I could never go back to the poor and small 3DS upper screen or it's NON capacitive lower screen for starters.

The only thing the 3DS has is Mario and Zelda, and that's not enough for me anymore.. The 3DS feels so damn gimped it almost hurts. Sony has done everything right this time in my book, while Nintendo has done the opposite, for the last time. Im tired of giving them second chances..

Buy a Vita, you will not regret it.
  • demonJAKAL #73 3 months ago

  • tmsmyth4 #76 3 months ago

I went with Shopto because their points system is pretty generous. Wifi+Rayman+Ninja Gaiden+16GB gave me £18 worth of points! Now The Last Story limited edition is only costing 20quid
  • walidb123 #77 3 months ago

@alexbulluk same deal and situation as me. got it from play on monday and it's still 'processing.' i just couldn't resist it any longer!!
  • Toothball #78 3 months ago

    @threemoh

3G antennas can be a noticeable extra cost as they have to be good enough to pick up mobile reception, but also small enough to fit into the device. There's also the 3G modem in there too, as well as the SIM card reading parts.
  • sourc0r #79 3 months ago

@Drygore not sure if serious..the Vita launch-linup is definitely better than the 3DS's, but judging from what games have been released so far, I can only say 'no, sir'.

if i were to choose between them right now just by looking at the games, I'd go with the 3DS. luckily i don't have to make that decision anyway.
  • ilmaestro #80 3 months ago

  • DisneyJon #84 3 months ago

Poorly researched article as normal - hey EG why not put that HMV prices include a free game eh? Or do you not want that pricing alongside someone else's pricing..... And you didnt put that Morrisons is a bundle. Forum posts on HUKD are more accurate! And you missed other retailers as well both online and offline. What does it say when mods on other forums can put together a better and more accurate pricing article in their own time than EG ???
  • wizlon #85 3 months ago

  • dadrester #86 3 months ago

any word on game's trade in offers. i'd heard something about them offering £100 for psp's today?
  • wizlon #87 3 months ago

@dadrester They were giving £50 for PSP's as far as I can remember, which sounds good but that was off the £230 asking price, ebay and an online retailer like Amazon seems to be the best bet.

I'll wait until it's closer to £150, shouldn't be long. Not many worthwhile games other than Wipeout and Uncharted, the rest are better on a big screen TV, cheaper also.

Ok so the £100 for my old aqua 3DS deal took my fancy. Registered on their (slightly clunky) site and waited for my return package to arrive. So in this mornings post I get not one but two paper thin jiffy bags from "money for my mobile.com" (er like who??) neither of which are big eneough for my 3DS, charger / dock thingy (never mind it's box) and offer about as much protection as a paper hat in a meteorite storm. Put my 3DS in there and send it off to someone I've never heard of......er no thinks!! Nice one ASDA!!
