Sony circles Assassin's Creed movie deal

InFamous flick also in the pipeline.

Sony Pictures is close to signing a deal to bring Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise to the big screen, according to insider sources.

According to Variety, negotiations between the two companies are in the final stages, with Sony apparently beating out a number of other studios for the hotly-contested film rights.

Neither party would confirm the news, though an Ubisoft spokesperson commented, "As we've stated before, Ubisoft is actively looking for film opportunities for our top brands. There is high interest from top Hollywood studios to collaborate on these brands."

Variety's report also mentions that Sony is working on a film based on its InFamous PlayStation 3 franchise.

Can't wait for the inevitable Assassin's Creed: The Movie: The Game tie in. Exclusivly on PS3? :p

Does this mean we can expect exclusive content for Assassin's Creed 6 on the film's Bluray disc?

    Cue:

    1. much faff over finding right directors and screenwriters.
    2. game plots minsunderstood and mangled by the above.
    3. howls of anguish from gaming forums.
    4. projects enter development hell.
    5. new directors/screenwriters appointed to revive projects.
    6. things go strangely quiet.
    7. projects cancelled.
    8. gamers appeased.

I've always enjoyed the mini-movies that Ubi did for the various incarnations of AC. But I'm not sure how well it would really translate to a full blown movie that general cinema-goers would be expected to go and see. I'm happy to be proved wrong though :)

Oh, and Golgo, I think you pretty much summed up how it will all go! :) +1!

    Yeah, why not?

    *Awful pun alert*

Sony might as well have a stab at making this

An AC movie could work. But it depends on the budget, producer, writers and actors of course.

However I can't see an inFamous movie being very good, even though I love the games. Despite having fun gameplay they just don't have a story worth bringing to another form of media. Of course that could be said of most games.

Cant be any worse than Prince of Persia

Just get the Ubisoft lot to do more of the live-action AC stuff; their short film trilogy following Giovanni Auditore was better than The Borgias.

I have no problem with an AssCreed movie, as it can expand the already interesting story. However, they need to avoid being lazy and opting to adapt the first game (or any game) directly. It should ADD to the story, not give us what we already know, like what's happening with the Mass Effect movie.
Also, I thought Ubisoft were doing a Marvel and creating a movie production company of their own so they can fund their films and retain full creative control? I'm worried that teaming with Sony will make some annoyingly unnecessary exclusives for PS3 in future.

Weren't really excited for another Assasins Creed until I started watching The Borgias..
I like the franchise, but were kind of tired of it all, since I think it comes out too often. But that TV-series piqued my interest again. :) - A movie will probably be awesome.

A Infamous movie will be good aswell.. Jason Statam would perhaps be a cool characther for Cole.
