WOW Patch 4.3 hits PTR "soon"

"Within a couple of weeks."

World of Warcraft Patch 4.3 will be added to the Public Test Realm (PTR) "within a couple of weeks", Blizzard has told Eurogamer.

The words spilled from lead game designer Tom Chilton during an interview with Eurogamer Germany (translated and posted on Eurogamer this morning).

"We should be on the Public Test Realm soon, within a couple of weeks," he said.

World of Warcraft Patch 4.3 brings the monumental battle with mega-dragon Deathwing to a dramatic climax. You'll fight him at The Maelstrom, with help from the likes of Thrall and other famed NPCs.

One of the rewards for beating Deathwing will be be a mount, although Chilton wouldn't give any more information than that.

"Yes, there will definitely be a mount reward for defeating Deathwing," he confirmed. "We're not spoiling what it will be just yet."

Patch 4.3 will also bring a set of Legendary daggers for rogues, plus game features like Transmogrification and Raid Finder.

The Public Test Realm is a server used to test World of Warcraft patch content before it is applied, wholesale, to the masses.

Large content patches can take as long as a month to test, according to the PTR FAQ. WOW Patch 4.3 is a large content patch.

Anyone with an active account prior to the PTR opening may copy a character there, providing they meet specific criteria that will be announced when the PTR opens.

Progress made on the Public Test Realm is not permanent. Characters are wiped when testing finishes.

I predict the patch will go live around early December to try and reap back players they lost to other games.
    BF3
    MW3
SWToR (If it's released this century XD)

etc etc etc.As if the predicition "A couple of weeks" Would make it seem...October sometime. Given the month overhead for patch testing. Late Novemeber minimum..

But TBH as a 6 year vet to the game..This patch and the expansion that follows will literately be the deciding factor of the games survival. Old players are leaving in droves. I had a guild of 60+ actives that had formed since TBC. 7 remain from 4.1 to Now.

    BC3??

Either way of course it will, this always happens its a patch, people join to see what the fuss is about, some people stay other say wtf and leave, some who were waiting for the next big thing will be happy and stay or disappointed and leave, so is the circle of a MMO.

Personally i struggle keeping a interest when i hit level cap, the grinding bores me, grind for better Armour, why do you want better armour? so i can grind for even better armour etc etc.

I think it's sad but true Gremly.

The problem WoW has more often than not is that it's never quite sure what it wants to be - so it drowns the player in content, and I literally mean "drown". All too often, there's way too much going on at any given time to really enjoy it. I said it before, too much is as toxic, overpowering and dangerous as too little. Science! I'm doing it!

But no-one would be more aware of this than Blizzard. It was a while ago they admitted they had lost a million subscribers since the release of Cataclysm - my old server was an absolute wasteland as I left, you could practically hear crickets chirping in between the spambots. And they may prance around saying "We still have 10 million players!" - yeah, including China. Where they can't charge subs for legal reasons.

As a fellow Vanilla Vet Gremly, I will say this - I think it was very noticable that they threw in a new team on Cataclysm. The quality of the writing wasn't quite there, and the content was just either too easy or too hard. No balance.

But it's up to Blizzard. We can love it or hate it as much as we want (and I know I still don't know which way I fall on that) but those of us who have lapsed... it's not up to us to want to go back. Blizzard has to make us want to go back. And as you say Gremly, with the MMOs being released in the next 6-8 months not to mention the multiplayer games, this is a bad time to be trying to resuscitate a game in crisis.

I am amused though they think rogue legendaries will make up for years of abuse... as a combat rogue, may I take this opportunity to say a massive great big "F*** YOU!" to Blizzard. Shiny daggers won't pull me back... upgrade my warglaives and maybe, just maybe, I may be interested...

    Bring on the nerfs!!!!

Well, actually Kami, They did Technically buff your warglavies.. Not them directly BUT you can transmog them into better stats, maybe? ;)

Won't be able to transmogrify the warglaives, we've already been warned of that. Actually, transmogrification is going - initially at least - to be VERY limited, nothing like what other MMOs allow, so we'll see just where they take it.

And after years of neglect, I want to punch Blizzard in the face for now forcing combat rogues into daggers. There are some things you can forgive - this is not one of them, and it's why rogues are the least played class. Because there's never any significant changes unveiled for anyone to have any sodding interest in the class - and when there are changes, they're usually so bad that even the most hardened rogue does a facepalm and rerolls a DK for a few weeks.

Blizzard want to "fix" rogues. How about ASKING rogues what they want, eh? Only 4% of the playerbase plays rogue. That's a niche, and I'm guessing most rogues would LOVE to be heard by Blizzard and have blue posters discussing possible class changes. I'd even assume by and large the rogue community has some very solid ideas that won't be overpowered. Rushing in and making Combat a daggers spec as well is... well. It's a punch in the face, if we're going to be honest here.

It's that sort of thing that has driven many players - and numerous rogues - away from the game. This is the one class they've handled poorly throughout the lifespan of WoW. And it surprises me that Blizzard are surprised people don't play it, because it doesn't surprise anyone else...
