Kojima teases Zone of the Enders 3DS

Anubis yourself with excitement?

Renowned video game maker Hideo Kojima has posted pictures that strongly suggest a new Zone of the Enders 3DS game.

One of the pictures shared via Twitter showed a plastic replica of the series' Orbital Flames (mechs) in front of the words "Z.O.E." and - reversed - "3.D.S".

"Found this on Omori-kun's desk. What's this?" tweeted Kojima before posting the picture link. Takahiro Omori is an artist at Kojima Productions.

A subsequent tweet linked to a picture of text - some Japanese, some English. The recognisable words were Z.O.E and Anubis. The latter was the name of an Orbital Frame (mech) in Zone of the Enders.

"At Kore-P's desk. What's this? No, I know this," tweeted Kojima.

Zone of the Enders spawned two games on PS2 and a spin-off on GBA. Eurogamer didn't get around to an original Zone of the Enders review, but did explain the game's charms in a later PS2 Cult Classics article.

Eurogamer has written both a Zone of the Enders 2 review and a more recent Zone of the Enders 2 retrospective.

Eurogamer even wrote a Zone of the Enders GBA review.

At E3 2011, Hideo Kojima announced the return of Zone of the Enders for today's consoles. The Zone of the Enders HD Collection will tart-up the first to Z.O.E. games for PS3 and Xbox 360 some time next year.

So is this a new game or another 3DS port?

It would be great to see at least one publisher/developer take a risk with the 3DS and develop something fresh. I'm getting a bit tired of hearing about resurrected franchises and remakes.

The Start of things to come lets hope wouldn't it be nice to have a good news story after or the doom and gloom plus the added sad news that for some reason my Ambassador status was not acknowledge hope my GF kept the receipt but doubt it . :-(

@Grump - totally agree. Where is the 3DS's equivalent of Trauma Center, Infinite Space, Rhythm Tengoku, etc??

[and I mean equivalent in that they were innovative and new - I'm not just asking for a remake of those specific franchises :D]

^ People actually have to BUY the 3DS before those games will appear

    :D

    edit:

In fact - I don't know why on god's green earth, that Ninty didn't do here what they did with the Gameboy colour - there should be DS compatible games, that also contain 3DS enhancements, OR there should be a single cartridge with BOTH versions of the game on them.

Does the 3DS use identical sized / shaped / connected cartridges to the DS?

It does Ryze - same shape, just bigger capacity.

As for ZOE 3DS... do want. Want. Very much badly do want want want. New, old, 3D or not, don't care, more of it please.

I know it's not especially deep or original but having a burger every so often isn't bad... especially when it's made of Kobe beef!

    its just a port...i bet

    Cheers Kami.

Nintendo have obviously cocked up here then. How many copies did Pokemon just sell? They could have shoehorned in some 3DS content, and promoted / released a dual format game.

All of those millions of buyers would have already kicked off their 3DS game collection, not to mention the ones who would have upgraded in order to experience the enhancements.

Sad, Nintendo. I'll not invest in incompetence.

    You're welcome Ryze.

The 3DS currently has a range of "sizes" for its carts - most common of course is the 2GB (which is roughly the size of a PSP UMD). But there are 1GB for cheaper games or smaller studios, 4GB ones for a little more capacity and - if you're really going to cram it in, there are 8GB carts available (although I doubt they are being used yet - one, they're pricey and two - that's what a 360 disc holds!).

That may seem odd but the DS had a similar approach - the largest DS game weighed in at 512MB. The smallest? A measley 32MB. It all depends on the budget of the developer, and of course the size and scope of the game itself - the smaller carts are cheaper and more friendly to smaller indie/budget developers, whereas the bigger carts will of course house games like Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Mario, Zelda et al.

That may be completely useless information, but it's interesting. I like interesting!
