Napoleon: Total War wins Ivor Novello
Soundtrack bags prestigious award.
Turn-based strategy game Napoleon: Total War has won an Ivor Novello award for its soundtrack.
The Creative Assembly-developed game won the award for Best Original Videogame Soundtrack.
Lead composer Richard Beddow picked up the gong. His soundtrack features an orchestral score performed by The Slovak National Symphony Orchestra and The Slovak National Chamber Choir at the Slovak Radio Concert Hall in Bratislava.
"Videogames are a fairly new addition to the awards ceremony, so we're delighted Richard's stunning score was such a hit with the judges," The Creative Assembly said.
"This is the second year in a row one of his soundtracks has been nominated in the category – a huge achievement for Richard and the studio, underlining The Creative Assembly's incredibly strong track record in audio.
"It's another great award to add to the bulging cabinet, where it'll sit snugly alongside our BAFTA for Best Music on the original Shogun. Well done, Richard!"
Napoleon: Total War bagged an 8/10 in Eurogamer's 2010 review.
"Napoleon represents a healthy step forward for the Total War series," wrote Quintin Smith. "The visual improvements, more pleasant interface, neater structure and smooth learning curve easily justify the low asking price of £20."
