New Rainbow Six title in the works?

Developer CV, Ubi URL raise suspicions.

A new entry in the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six tactical FPS series is incoming, according to a developer résumé.

As spotted on NeoGAF, recording engineer Sean Popejoy's LinkedIn profile claims he "developed Pro Tools sessions from Ubisoft audio for the game demo of Rainbow Six (2011)."

The same GAF poster also spotted a www.rainbowsix-bd.com domain name filed by Ubisoft in late 2009 and amended in 2010.

The last entry in the 13-year-old series was Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2008, which won a 7/10 from Eurogamer.

I'd love a new Rainbow Six game, when Vegas 1 came out I could not stop playing it. Then Vegas 2 came which had lots of nice refinements, but because it was so samey compared to the first it got boring quite quickly.

Here's hoping there's a varied amount of locations and crisper visuals in the new game.

Best news all day. I put a horrible amount of hours into co op terrorist hunts

As above, looking forward to a new R6. Vegas 1 & 2 were great. Loved their implementation of the cover system as well.

  • dirtysteve #5 1 year ago

I just hope this isn't another portable game.

@ISmoke - likewise, I dread to think how many games of TH I played on Vegas 1 - I remember that there would always be one terrorist left and everyone had their own tactic to make him spawn or come to you. Tense times - especially if your team mates are dead. Looking forward to some more news on this.

co-op terror hunt as one of the few friendly Live games, i guess if you were a 133t @ssh0l3 , you didn't get very far.

It's as if nobody remembers what Rainbow Six originally stood for - meticulous planning, choosing the best possible loadout and rapid execution, maybe even without player participation. Vegas may be a decent game, but it has more in common with Gears Of War than with Rainbow Six.
There are no tactical sims like it now - ARMA2 is too cluttered, big and unpolished, OFP: RR is a 100-300m shooting range, and any other shooter is just a CoD wannabe.

Vegas 1 + 2 are probably my favourite online games on 360, ahead of even BC2. I'd still kill for a HD remake of Black Arrow, though.

Vegas had a rarity: A computer-controlled sidekick I didn't want to execute on the spot!
The AI actually did what it was told and that was really cool for a change compared to the one in CoD that shouts "I got your six!" and then seconds later you are shot into the back...
Bring on another game with such an AI!

DaemonSpawn: That's like saying noone remembers what Resi used to stand for when everyone enjoyed Resi 4. Sure, Vegas is a very different kind of game to the (awesome) old-style R6 games, but it's very enjoyable in its own way, and there's nothing wrong with series reinventing themselves, as with the aforementioned Resi 4. Me and my online mates still get together for terrorist hunts on R6V2 every now and then (most recently this past weekend). This news massively excites me, with the assumption that terrorist hunt is still in.

    Hopefully they dont Cod'ify it!

    @DreadedWalrus
RE4 didn't change the essence of Resident Evil - it has better viewport, better controls, better pacing and at the same time retained insane "plot", suspence, item management, ammo conservation of the RE1/2/3/CV. It was an evolution.

If you compare Raven Shield and Vegas, you'll see two radically different games - it's not just a 3rd person viewport, cover mechanics, but no planning whatsoever, no squads. The only thing in common are the name and some super-taskforce.
  • trooperdx3117 #16 1 year ago

Brlliant, terrorist hunt i argue is the best co-op experience in any game ever, nothing like being pinned down in a cour yard, blind firing and shouting at your mate to "f-ing cover with that sniper rifle!!". Good times

DaemonSpawn: Some good points, but I'm not so sure. R6V is still about tactics (albeit improvised and real-time tactics rather than carefully thought out and pre-planned). It's still a first person game (apart from when in cover). It's still squad based (except limited to just the one squad). If anything, I'd argue that Resi 4 represented a greater departure from the earlier games than R6V does over its predecessors. Fixed camera becomes over the shoulder. Slow, suspenseful pace with not much of a focus on the combat evolves into having very, very advanced combat mechanics based around precision shooting, e.t.c.

Of course, the difference is not many people miss the original Resi games. I'd agree there's quite a large fanbase of the original R6 games that, like you say, don't really have modern games catering to them (the original R6 is one of my strongest early PC gaming memories), so it's definitely a bit of a shame in that way. I still don't think that people have forgot what the series once stood for, though.

    @DaemonSpawn, +100 if I could sir.

If they COD this I will murder them with a pigeon.

    About bleedin time

Dunno how many other games they have messed about with when the should have

No more stupid end boss like there was in Vegas 2 please Ubisoft, that was a fucking embarrassment. Actually scratch that the entire single player part was pretty horrible, just as well the MP was as great as it was in the original Vegas.

    Terrorist hunts are back!AWESOMEEEEEEEEE!!!
  • BraveArse #22 1 year ago

This is great news - been waiting an age for a new Rainbow Six title.

BUT every time Ubi announce new iteration of a favourite franchise I end up holding my breath not knowing whether they're going to completely fuck it up or not.
  • OllyJ #23 1 year ago

I'd love one set in one massive nakatomi plaza and surrounding streets, globe hopping gets fucking stupid. Make me care about shooting things, I dare you.
  • Mr_Brown #24 1 year ago

Finally! Though they always usually release one after they have finished Ghost Recon. Cannot wait for this, I still go through phases of playing RSV 1 and 2. Brilliant games, I hope they don't change things too much. Keep Terrorist Hunt and have some old maps from R63.
  • theirongiant #25 1 year ago

R6:Vegas is the only game i've played where everyone had to work together over comms. Can't think of one other game where 'no-mics' would be booted out in the lobby. Played some tight crews in Streets.

As long as it's more like Rainbow Six Vegas and not the dreadful sequel I'll be happy.
  • BillMurray #27 1 year ago

Ace. Loved Vegas 1 and 2.
  • BillMurray #28 1 year ago

Oh, and I do hope they include splitscreen. Local co-op was really fun.

I loved R6 I really do hope a new one is in teh works and not just an internet dream.

I miss Rogue Spear and Raven Shield, sigh.

Make or break time. They either modernise it or it will just become a relic. The tension and "24-ness" of the first game was great, hopefully they can recreate that with more refined controls
  • sideeye #34 1 year ago

This series really needs to go back to Rainbow Six 3 and Black Arrow style gameplay. I put in so many hours into those games, they were fun and skilled. We actually had proper clan games where it required tactics and co-ordination to storm a building. If it's anything like Vegas or cod then they can forget about taking my £40
  • SlackMaster #35 1 year ago

This game seriously needed to make another sequel to this game and GRAW. There co-op modes are some of the most fun I've had with online gaming and I can still jump back in and play now, so they're very long lasting games.
  • kongzi #36 1 year ago

excellent...Vegas 1 is imo still one the best shooters out there. It's not as flashy or as set-piecey, but once you get into the pace of the game (and good at pulling multiple headshots in quick succesion) those shootouts are still hard to beat. Please keep it that way.
  • FooAtari #37 1 year ago

    @DaemonSpawn

Totally agree. Another game cannibalized for the sake of appealing to the lowest common denominator.
  • CamberGreber #38 1 year ago

Bring back Face Scan in Singleplayer.

add Proper Breifings and Maps for Planning.

O and better Graphics (Vegas 2 yuchh.)
