Steam Borderlands buyers get DNF demo

Gearbox spreads the love.

Those who buy or have bought Borderlands through Valve's digital distribution service Steam will get a demo key for Gearbox's upcoming shooter Duke Nukem Forever.

Codes are also included in the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition, out this Friday in the UK.

Confirmation comes from Big Download, which said Steam Borderlands owners will get access to the DNF demo at the same time as Borderlands GOTY owners.

Unfortunately, Gearbox and publisher 2K Games are yet to date the demo. All we know is the demo, and the game itself, will be out next year.

On Monday Gearbox said the demo will be made available to all, so console owners should be in for some Duke demo fun, too - eventually.

Gearbox's marketeer Steve Gibson said people will be "surprised" by the demo, "at what we put in there and what happens with it".

Eurogamer went hands-on with Duke Nukem Forever last month.

Not just "will get" - I got mine yesterday :)

edit: I mean I got the key, not the demo. Obviously :p

If people are too stupid to realise they dont have to buy a game to get a demo key then so be it.

I now somewhat regret not grabbing the game with it was a fiver on Steam.

Shakey: You should. And not because of the first access demo key thingy but because Borderlands is awesome.

More importantly where's the patch raising the level cap in Borderlands... avoiding playing Claptrap DLC until I can use it to level up

    Duke's vacation pictures amuse me.

For a second there I was confused about what the hell a "Did Not Finish" demo was - but I guess there might have been an underlying subconscious reason for my acronym mix-up :p.

@Miths Lewis Hamilton's had too many Duke Nukem Forevers this year to win the championship, IMO.

Yes, I too am wondering where the patch is. I purchased the Claptrap Revolution DLC on day one, but stopped playing it when I realised the level cap would be raised in a later update (I've reached the limit).

I was just about to go for this and buy Borderlands GOTY on steam.
But then I realised its £29.99, which is fine an' all, but its £14 from Gameplay, or £15 from Shopto.

The £14-£15 difference isn't really worth it for a demo.
Still, might pick up a retail copy tomorrow anyway. I already played through it once on PS3, but I never bought any of the DLC, and now I have an itch to get back into it.

Guess I'll give it a go when this drops. I've never played a demo out of sheer morbid curiosity before...

I got Borderlands last year through retail. I am disappoint. :(

Wow, this was unexpected! Can't wait to try out the demo :D

Preordered Borderlands off Steam in a 4-pack, not only did I save but I also loved every moment of the 160-odd hours I spent on the game according to my steam profile.

Also, I'd like to add that since Gearbox is supportive of Steam in the past few months, I wish they add in full steamworks support for Borderlands such as Steam Cloud for save games (I'd hate to lose any of my characters :p)... and do the same for DNF.

I think if you bought a retail version you can register your key on Steam.
