Wii Remote Plus spotted

Motion Plus plus a Wii Remote?

A new Wii controller that appears to be a fusion of the Wii Motion Plus accessory and the standard Wii Remote has popped up on US shop Gamestop's website.

It's called Wii Remote Plus, and comes bundled with Nintendo's game FlingSmash (spotted by Kotaku).

The box art that reveals the new Wii Remote does not appear to be on UK website listings for FlingSmash, which is without a European release date.

What is FlingSmash anyway? Well, since you asked...

"FlingSmash combines the hands-on fun of tennis with the nonstop action and instant gratification of pinball. When the tropical Suthon Island is invaded by the evil Omminus, the ball-shaped hero, Zip, is summoned to save the day. Using the Wii Remote™ controller with the Wii MotionPlus accessory, you'll fling Zip at targets to smash your way across eight colorful worlds. Use the Wii Remote controller like a racket and watch Zip bounce around like a pinball to smash through oncoming barriers and enemies in this action sidescroller."

A Nintendo spokesperson confirmed to Eurogamer that Wii Remote Plus "is real" but added, "We have nothing to announce on this at the moment."

Meh, everyone does incremental updates of all their product hardware. This was inevitable - although surprised it took so long.

Xbox 360, PS3, iPhone... all get updated when manufacturing costs get lower, to include a few extras and redisgn, and to continue pushing a similar price point as the previous version.

So old technology repackaged as new technology which is then old technology packaged again as new? Wow, Nintendo are getting really good at this..

    OMG They copied Sony.

Last year, when WMP was released... "They should release a remote with it built in, that'd be better."

Now, they release a remote with it built in... "REHASH, CASH-IN."

I despair sometimes, I really do.
  • JetSetWilly #7 2 years ago

No doubt this'll make all the difference.

"yeh, because they should have released it properly at the time, rather than wait for everyone to buy a bunch, and then sell them a slightly better version. "

Erm, wut? I know there's a ridiculous perception amongst gamers that 'teh cazualz' are retarded apes who will buy into anything if it looks remotely new and shiny, but there's no way this is being positioned as a replacement for what people have already... It's an addition.

"How many games utilise Wii Motion Plus aside from Resort and Red Steel 2 anyway?"

Tiger Woods. I know, I know, just the one more...I'll get me anorak.

I reckon they had two boxes of ideas and then pulled one piece of idea out of each.

'Ok guys the game will be...'

    '...tennis meets...'

    'Pinball'

Okay guys, lets get this game made.

I'm going to end up getting Motionplus just so I can play the new Zelda game. Otherwise, what's the point? I guess Wii Sports Resort is pretty good fun...

"obviously tony, its not like nintendo have been raping the shit out of this tiny incremental hardware upgrades that drag their hardcore fans into unnecessary purchases for well over a decade now or anything like that. "

I don't know what planet you're living on, but it's obviously one where there aren't dozens of different SKUs for the iPod Touch, iPhone, PSP, DS, PS3, and XBox 360 that work in exactly the same way as each other albeit with different hard drive sizes (ironically the Wii is the only one that's been the same since launch, unless you're counting the fact you can get it in black instead of white now).

But they do exist, and I'd wager the proportion of purchases for those new SKUs is weighed heavily in the favour of new purchases rather than replacements... Unless we're to believe that the 20million 'fat' PS3 owners are the only people responsible for the purchase of the newer slim model...

This new remote will likely be the same. New owners will get them, and people who want a second (or third/fourth) remote will get one. So what's the problem?

The Wii needs resolution plus not motion Plus.

Developed by Artoon (ex-Sega blokes), which is probably why it reminds you of Sonic a bit.
  • SlackMaster #19 2 years ago

Ok, good... but where are the games that support Wii Motion Plus? There seem to be very few.

Seems to be the same thing with PS3 Move... launch the periferal with no decent games.
  • Arwin #21 2 years ago

PS3 Move launched with more good games than almost anything else launched in the last 10 years.

It is understandable that those who have already 'upgraded' their existing remotes will be a bit miffed, but I fail to see how this is anything but good news.
