GOWII dev working with Just Cause dev
On a Mad Max game?
God of War II director and writer Cory Barlog is working with Just Cause 2 developer Avalanche Studios on an unannounced game, Eurogamer can reveal.
We have known for a while now that Barlog is hard at work on an action game based on the upcoming flick Mad Max 4: Fury Road.
It now looks likely that the Stockholm studio is the developer behind it.
"I can't comment on the projects we are working on," Avalanche founder and original concept creator of Just Cause Christofer Sundberg told Eurogamer, "but Cory is working here with us in Stockholm as you have probably read on his Twitter recently."
So, Christofer, when will you comment on the projects you're working on?
"That is out of my hands I'm afraid and in the hands of our publishers," Sundberg replied. "Sometime early next year most likely for two of them and later next year for the last one." Wait, Avalanche is working on at least THREE unannounced games? What?
Let's have a look at some of Barlog's tweets, all posted on 6th September.
"The game is going to be awesome, I can say that:)."
"We are busy working our way out of preproduction. We probably won't have much out for a bit. I will keep posting tho!"
"More info to come soon! No details on platforms but I promise I will keep you all posted!"
And, "We are planning to release somewhere near the film...exact date TBD. We won't be putting anything out for a bit, sorry:("
According to the Internet Movie Database Mad Max: Fury Road will be released in 2012.
In March last year George Miller, the Australian film director of the Mad Max series, said the Mad Max game was around two years from completion.
"It's a hybrid game. I'm really interested in both the gameplay but the actual emotional engagement. I'm curious how much you can engage with the characters through the gameplay," he said.
Development of the game itself was confirmed in March 2008.
Eurogamer's attempts to contact Barlog have so far been unsuccessful. Cory, if you're reading this, why not drop us a line? We'd love to chat.

In the meantime I recommend the Genesis/MD game Outlander for your Mad Max fix. Avoid the inferior SNES version.

Otherwise, I thought Avalanche were going to be doing more casual games after JC2. This being a film tie-in doesn't inspire much confidence either. But I guess Barlog's involvement might help...
