Top Gun buzzes EU PSN Store

Plus: Worms! Quantum Theory demo!

Now, I'm not going to sit here and blow sunshine up your ass, but Top Gun has landed on the European PlayStation Store. It's £8 and packs online multiplayer. Brand cash-in, maybe? But a cheaper way to satisfy an aerial combat itch than H.A.W.X. 2.

What's more, Ellie Gibson got to interview Top Gun screenwriter Jack Epps Jr. because of this game. And he came up with such lines as, "Son, your ego is writing cheques your body can't cash."

Less exciting, but worth mentioning nonetheless, is the arrival of Worms 2: Armageddon. The full game costs £12, and there's a free trial to test the soil with.

The only demo this week is Tecmo KOEI's Quantum Theory. On the surface this might as well be Gears of War (and that may be no bad thing), but underneath you'll find a fantasy storyline, stronger emphasis on melee, and of course a woman with a skimpy suit on.

Dragon Age: Origins welcomes another lump of DLC this week with Witch Hunt. This takes place a year after the main Dragon Age: Origins campaign and brings about a "dramatic conclusion" to Morrigan's storyline. Look out for our review tomorrow. Jimmy's Vendetta is available for Mafia II, too.

Those of you that subscribe to PlayStation Plus can download a PES 2011 and a God of War: Ghost of Sparta demo.

The US PlayStation Store has extra Sengoku BASARA: Samurai Heroes and TerRover demos to try - as well as the full game of TerRover itself.

This week's Mini is Flying Hamster.

The odds and ends are listed on the European PlayStation blog. Don't forget to check out the Digital Comics Store update while you're there.

Quantum Theory is awful. Seriously. There is so much wrong with it that only playing it can emphasise it's shitness.

I'll being cautious of Top Gun until a demo and or a video comes out, I love the film and need some Danger Zone action!

Haven't heard anything good about Top Gun i'm afqgaid. It got absolutely slated on RebelFM.
  • Markitron #4 2 years ago

I can also confirm the total awfulness that is quantum theory, not worth a download. Terrible controls, washed out terrible graphics and an even worse setting. Ghost of Sparta is absolutely brilliant tho!

pro evo is close to what it once was i can say after playing the demo. it still doesn't feel quite as fluid as fifa though, and that was last years iteration. i look forward to comparing it to this years fifa demo. if pro evo isnt to far away in terms of gameplay then the master league will clinch it for me over manager mode on fifa.

Is Worms Armageddon much better than the awful previous PSN effort?
  • jtodroc #7 2 years ago

Yeah I have the 1st Worms but don't want to waste 15 euro on the new one if its not much different to the 1st one

Wow psn store sucks again! Which is a shame as I have 30 quid to spend .. Oh well time to buy yet more dragon age dlc!

Ah cool, Worms. I had missed the 567,000 earlier versions that have been released in the past 18 trillion years and was wondering if a new version would come out.

Quantum Theory, or as I like to call it: Quantum Fenix.
  • Zanuah #11 2 years ago

    Still no Castle Crasher? :(

Quantum Theory demo is absolute waste of time! Feels almost as bad as Eat Lead. By the way, OXM gives QT 3/10.
  • menage #13 2 years ago

QT is indeed a total rip off and a bad one at that Still, I couldn't help but enjoy it because it was so shit.

PES demo was excellent. Improved in pretty much every aspect. Passing was the biggest surprise for me. Felt very smooth, natural and free. Much easier to play long balls into space, and lots of control over how you weight passes. Also loved how you could change game speed, altho +2 was a bit too hectic for my taste.

Soooo looking forward to the 30th! :)

Quantum Theory was dreadful. Felt slow and unresponsive, and the story/setting was generic in the extreme.

TerRover is very promising. The devs have definitely played their Loco Roco methinks. Absolutely bloody hard and frustrating, but still fun. I'll be getting that.

The Samurai thingie is basically another Dynasty Wars. Boring.

Not tried the PSP GoW demo yet. Think I might wait till the full game comes out, cos I already know I'm getting it.

edit: @Zanuah: Castle Crashers came out last week on the US store. Tried the demo but it didn't impress me at all.

Setup a US PSN account - they've got TerRover & Castle Crasher demos & other decent stuff... as per usual, another lame EU store update :(

I don't think the new worms is much better than the old one - there are a couple of new options but nothing major.

I bought the last one quite late on and now there seems to be hardly anyone playing it online. Shame as I actually think its one of the better worms games.
