Vanquish demo held back on 360

PS3 version "hopefully" this afternoon.

The Xbox 360 demo of PlatinumGames' exciting space shooter Vanquish has been held back until tomorrow.

The PS3 version, meanwhile, will still be released today - "hopefully sometime this afternoon," the publisher said in a statement.

Luckily, Eurogamer pounced on the Vanquish demo yesterday and recorded the first 15 minutes on video. Has the developer of MadWorld and Bayonetta produced another top-tier hit? We'll know for sure when the game is released on 22nd October for PS3 and Xbox 360.

The first 15 minutes of the Vanquish demo.

Just played the US demo I downloaded last night. Looks promising, but it's a bit too chaotic for me and I fear the clean white and grey artdesign wil bore after a while. Defenitely a game I'm going to pick up, but probably not at full price

So this is what it feels like to be a PS3 owner.

Hum. I couldn't find this on the Xbox.com website - is there a link to the Gold-only demo? Is it definitely up there? Apologies if so.

it doesn't look too original, but could be fun.

Just downloaded it from the US store on PS3 and it's bloody good fun! Graphics look great, controls are simple and action is fast and exciting. Switching weapons is easy with the D-Pad and game is just plain good fun to play. Looks like it will be a fun game to play around Christmas time when the prices start to drop to sub £20

    Grrr...

I have today off (co-incidentally) and was looking forward to having a bash at this.

Guess I'll just have to go shopping with the girlfriend now...

From the earlier videos the concept / characters / setting appear painfully generic, but the mechanics look very solid.

I liked the way the guy snapped into cover and fired over it - very polished.

After Bayonetta, I'll wait for some reviews for it though.

Nuts, didn't think of downloading this off the US PS store last night! I could have been playing that rather than watching Come Dine With Me with the missus... :(

"it doesn't look too original, but could be fun. "

    A bit like Bayonetta then?

Played the demo on the PS3 and while the combat and controls feel tightand responsive the game feels rather unoriginal and generic, also it doesn't look particularly good to be honest.

Instadeaths on the boss didn't exactly go down well either.

I played the US PSN demo and i'm actually a bit dissapointed...it's just nothing new..i've seen it all before..i turned it off pretty quickly too, the screens of it make it look a hell of alot better then it actually is playing it! Jaggy city on PS3. Sorry Vanquish!

Played it on PS3 several times... You know they didn't lie about it - it runs and looks perfectly well. Well, it appears there is no AA, but with detailed textures and intense action it's not very noticeable. Also, I may be wrong, but is it running at 60 FPS? Because it's very, you know, smooth and responsive..

Some people complain about the boss.. They haven't realized yet that the safest way to fight the boss is to slide and run around. Hiding behind cover gets you killed in 3... 2... 1... Here you go.
Definitely feels like Bayonetta in some way, especially the boss.

    I get a real PN03 vibe from this... am I right ?
  • Markitron #21 1 year ago

Its actually pretty fun, VERY japanese tho. Techno music, bad voice acting, an even worse story and that loose lost planet-esque aiming system. If it avoids being repetitive and mixes it up a little, I predict a solid 8

Demo was up on US PSN yesterday. I wanted to try it but had other stuff to do so I had to postpone it.

Anybody played it yet? How was it?
  • owl #23 1 year ago

my download is at 50%, hoping this is the second coming of pn.03. . .

All that really stuck with me from that demo is the fact that you can't jump. He has rocket knees but you can't jump...what?
  • Triggerhappytel #25 1 year ago

I enjoyed the demo muchly, but as others mentioned above, I can't see it being a full-price purchase. Will bite when it hits the £20 region, which I suspect won't take it too long.
  • _LarZen_ #26 1 year ago

As a old fart that I am I thought the game was way to fast pased run like crazy and shoot like mad. Thanks but no thanks...

All that really stuck with me from that demo is the fact that you can't jump. He has rocket knees but you can't jump...what?

He jumps but only if you're pushing froward over cover, otherwise the button will latch you onto nearby cover.

The demo is quite fun, certainly worth trying out. Very fast action, pretty good graphics i have to say that i'm looking forward for the Eurogamer review on this one.
  • FuzzyDuck #29 1 year ago

    @Lord_Gremlin

To my eyes it looks 30FPS with a hefty bit of motion blur. But it sure is smooth and responsive and i quite like the art style; it feels like an updated version of an old 16-bit Konami-esque shooter.

Won't be a day one purchase because of study/work, but once i get the time this is a defo buy.
  • man.the.king #30 1 year ago

    @Astro-Creature

Thanks! I'll certainly give it a go.
  • denyason #31 1 year ago

once you learnt the tutorial, the demo was easy and fun. it becomes instinctive and the fast paced action can be slow - its up to you. pick off targets in cover from afar or go in fast and boom! the beauty about the boost is if you're in trouble just boost away.

I thought it was fun for a quick blast. Tight controls, very smooth and fast gameplay and I personally thought the graphics were very nice (AA or no).

Proooobably won't be a purchase for me, but still. Good action.
