Borderlands GOTY in October

All the DLC plus a fold-out map.

Gearbox Software has announced that a Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will be released on 12th October in the US.

We'd expect that to hit Europe at around the same time, but we're checking with 2K. The GOTY Edition is for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

As you'd expect, the bundle includes the original game and its four downloadable add-ons - The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and Claptrap's New Robot Revolution.

The latter has not yet been released, but the previous three were wicked. All hail the mighty Borderlands.

The original announcement tweet mentioned a "bonus map", which led to some confusion, but a post on the official forum revealed that this will be a physical map hand drawn by Scott Kester, rather than an in-game bonus.

If you haven't played Borderlands, you really should! Check out our Borderlands review to discover why.

Only recently got Borderlands in a Steam sale (£6.75 BARGAIN!), it's well worth picking up if you haven't yet. It does grind a bit and it lacks any variety (including the enemies) but Borderlands is a brilliant shooter.

Fantastic game. Hopefully they will put the DLC on disk again.

Been working my way through Knoxx recently; I'm still holding out for an assault rifle or SMG with 4x fire. It's become less about completing missions and more about inflicting fiery / corrosive death on the baddies :)

I played this whole thing in co-op but my friend isn't interested in the DLC (missed the last Steam sale). Don't think it'as worth me getting them as I can't imagine playing Borderlands alone, would feel like a completely different game.

I do like a good fold out map

A game that truly deserves the Game Of The Year title. Can't wait for the next bit of DLC.

I think this game should've been a 9. I've spent tons of hours on this while 'amazing' sp games I've completed in less than 10 hours

Kudos for releasing a package with all of the content - on disc(s). Especially wiith extensive post launch DLC, I would like to see many publishers do this.

I really liked this game until I found out that people were were playing with invincible shields and ultra damage weapons.
It has been said by a few people that these weapons and shields were only available to developers but have been hacked somehow and are now being duplicated and spread around like a rash.

I was given an Omega Shield and at first was happy to blast along with it but in the end I got bored that there wasn't a challenge anymore.I went back to my old gear but when I play online, one or two players crush the enemies with those Godly items so that there's nothing left to shoot.
I think you should all know the whole truth if you do decide to part cash for what I believed WAS a good game.
I hope the developers patch the game sooner rather than later or this game won't get any future sales ,DLC or otherwise...sniff...

The DLC for this game totally obliterates that for any other game in terms of longevity, production values, and value for money. Each of the three adds a new dimension to the original gameplay and plays much more like an old-school add-on (like 'Opposing Force' and 'Blue Shift' for Half-Life, both developed by Gearbox, of course) and cost only £6 each. I really wish Bioware would sit up and take note with it's DA:o DLC.

All hail the mighty Borderlands indeed. The GOTY will be money supremely well-spent for anyone who's not played the original yet. I loved it so much I got the full 1000 on XBOX 360 with one buddy, and then got the Platinum on PS3 with another. Looooove it.

@badassbab Length does not dictate quality. I've finished Bayonetta, Gears of War 2, Bioshock and others in less than 10 hours and that doesn't make them anything but great games.

Hell, we all finished Portal in 2 hours and I've yet to find anyone who doesn't think it's a masterpiece of gaming.

Hell, we all finished Portal in 2 hours

I always hear this and it makes me feel stupid. It took me a good 4-5 hours :(

Great! I only ever got the original game and none of the expansions. A pack like this suits me perfectly.

BEWARE! the extra content will NOT BE ON THE DISC! they are going the lazy route and including vouchers to download the DLCs. All people without internet connections are screwed. Good job 2K, good job.

@Astro-Creature: Unfortunately, even on PS3 the DLCs will NOT be on the disc. Kind of like the lazy ass job that was Assassin's Creed II Complete Edition.
Borderlands Game of the Year edition will come with tokens for download of the recently announced add-on pack, Claptrap's New Robot Revolution, as well as the three previous best-selling destructive downloadable adventures.

    @fabulos

That isnt really a bad thing as it means it will be significantly cheaper and may actually be around 25 quid.
  • spookyzombie #19 1 year ago

Presumably the DLC isn't on the disc so that it buggers up its trade value.
