Valkyria Chronicles 3 on the way?

SEGA's registered the domain name.

A new domain registration by SEGA suggests a third instalment in the Valkyria Chronicles series is in development.

As spotted by Siliconera, the name "valkyria3.jp" was registered towards the end of May. You need a username and password to get anything out of the domain, however.

So is VC3 definitely on the way, or is SEGA just protecting its brand names? Would a third instalment be for PS3 or PSP? SEGA has yet to say a word.

Valkyria Chronicles II is due to arrive in Europe on 3rd September. Visit the gamepage for a hands-on preview and all manner of nice pictures.

Yep I'd love another PS3 installment but I wonder if the costs are a little too restrictive for a fairly niche (in the west) title.

(I think the original PS3 game sold about 500K in Japan iirc - not sure if that's enough to get a PS3 title greenlit)

I like playing turn-based games on the bus, so the second being on PSP suits me fairly well. I guess I'll have a PS3 by the time the third lands either way.

I do hope the second one appears on PSN though.

@Vertical stand - great point re: the HD console install base being larger. I admit to having overlooked that - doh!

VC was a killer game. Anyone ever have Wendy in their squad in part 1? She was INSANE.

As someone who usually prefers to play long RPGs on a handheld rather than a console, I'd be perfectly happy with Valkyria Chronicles 3 being another PSP game. Though I'll be happy either way of course, and I can't say having another VC game that looks as nice as the first game isn't appealing.

At any rate, we haven't even gotten VC2 yet. Definitely looking forward to playing that when it hits early next month.

I'm betting its on the PSP again because they screwed it all up making a full fledged sequel for PSP instead of making it a spin-off.

From a domestic market point of view, it makes sense to keep it on PSP as it's the best selling console in Japan and exclusives to popular franchises do extremely well on the system.

However, globally the idiot gaijin have failed to see the attraction and so PS3 would probably be the better option. I'm happy either way, but I'd at least like to play VC2 before I get too excited about a possible sequel.

@Stompy - Waay too much detail, waay too much thought gone into it. I'm sure Sega don't want your weird punchy fists anywhere near their lovely game whatever system it ends up on. :o)
