UK chart: Toy Story 3 back on top

Modern Warfare 2 surges into second.

Surprisingly good movie tie-in Toy Story 3 has reclaimed top spot in the UK all-formats charts from Blizzard's stupendous PC real-time strategy game StarCraft II.

After debuting at number one last week, StarCraft II, which Eurogamer awarded 9/10, drops down to fourth.

In at two is a resurgent Modern Warfare 2, up six places. Ubisoft's Wii game Dancing on Broadway moves up to third from fourth, and Red Dead Redemption drops from third to fifth.

Ubisoft's Just Dance, Square Enix's Dragon Quest IX, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 make up the rest of the top 10.

And yes, New Super Mario Bros. DS is still hanging in there, recording its 170th week in the UK all-formats chart. Mario's DS outing still has a long way to go before it beats the original Rayman, though.

    Kotick will be rubbing his pustulent man-wand with delight, claiming putting out that demo was right after all..
  • Goodfella #3 2 years ago

    Just f**k off and die CoD games, overated crap.
  • NimbusTLD #4 2 years ago

    Wow so the demo and price cut combo worked?

    Sorry for continuing to flog this horse but I'm continually (pleasantly) surprised that DQ IX is still hanging on in there. Gotta admit, as much as I love the series I always felt like it was going to stay niche over here.

    Should be a lesson learned for Square-Enix. When trying to introduce a franchise to a country MARKET THE EFF out of it like Nintendo just did for this one. As much as I hate the current crop of "Dress-up" focused ads, they are working.

    It's seems the only place where one will find CoD hate is on 'core' gaming sites such as this one, specifically the comments sections. Apparently every other 'casual' fucker laps that shit up no end, which is perplexing.

    @CaptainQuint: I think people hate Kotick more than they really hate COD.

    @CaptainQuint

    MW2's like porn. It's taboo to admit to using it, but sales figures show otherwise.

    Toy Story 3 is truly ace.
  • youhavenomail #10 2 years ago

    Great, I'm gonna have to get me a piece of all those MW2 noobs online tonight.

    @mickey2010

    That's mainly because there's only been one PS3 exclusive in the past 3/4 months and that's Demon's Souls. Even though a brilliant game, it targets a select group of gamers. I don't expect to see Alan Wake, Conviction or Crackdown 2 in the charts by the end of September.

    Good on Mario Galaxy 2.

    It's gaming bliss!

    "Ubisoft's Wii game Dancing on Broadway..."

    That'll be 'Dance on Broadway'.

    Cor blimey does Mickey ever go off the clock? I imagine his bedroom to be like the killer in Seven but with vandalized Sony products, defaced Official PS mags and rows of hand written books denouncing Sony with an shrine to MS in the corner! :)

    Anyway I just wanna say after finally getting round to starting it this week, it's a real shame Alpha Protocol sank without a trace as it's really quite ace.

    ALSO theres not ONE PS3 EXCLUSIVE IN THE TOP 40, proof if needed , that the 360 is the everymans console and the devs/publishers system of choice this gen. seems sonys slim update has truly stalled .

    @mickey2010, yes but most PS3 exclusives this year have been released withint the first 3 months, and the rest will be released in the last couple of months, I am sure LBP2 and GT will do just fine.

    Ps I guess you have taken a look at the monthly software sales for each console as well right, or are you just focussing on exclusives?

    Did Fifa 10 have a price crash?

    DQIX just shows what constant TV advertisment can do. I rememeber a company exec a couple of month ago saying that that type of advertisment doesn't matter anymore. I doubt it would have carried on in the charts with the adverts

    Will be interesting to see what respawn will come up with in the future. Activision are riding on the back of a successful product of which they had little creative involvment with. I predict this will be the last Modern Warfare game so enjoy it while it lasts.
