"HALO..., is it me you're looking for?" (L. Richie)

Destiny 1 was some parts ok. Other parts were downright terrible. Especially for solo gamers. Decided not to buy D2, which looks pretty, but so do slot machines in casinos.

Only way to stop this madness is stop sinking your money into these machines. There are other, more honest games.

Remember: YOU are paying for the HYPE. Literally.

Nex Machina review

hiscore

I enjoy the game, but on PS4 Pro it looks sub 4K, which is a shame considering Resogun runs at native 4K. The motion resolution looks upscaled 1080p, maybe it's more like 1440p, but it could be crisper. Hopefully Housemarque can patch this to native 4K, that would make it a showcase game for PS4 Pro. Now it falls just an inch short of that. But, as I said, I totally love this arcade classic.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: the first PS4 Pro vs PC graphics comparison

hiscore

To really compare numbers one should run the same checkerboard upscaling technique on a pc and run some framerate analysis on it. I'm reading native & upscaling 4K stuff, but you can only truly compare identical techniques so if PS4 lacks true native output, than tests should at least consider upscaling technique on both platforms. Right now, we're talking apples and oranges.

id takes back control of Doom's broken multiplayer on PC

hiscore

We need MAPS, MAPS and MAPS.. preferably for free. Also intergrate SnapMap into map browser with original maps. Two different worlds now and we want overview of who is playing what on which maps (like Battlefield browser).

Too bad IDsoft decided to cut more than half of the maps and put them behind a season pass. Thought they were more anarchistic.. So sad.

The Doom campaign is actually pretty good

hiscore

DOOM is back! And how? Everything feels as DOOM should feel anno 2016. Speedy kinetic combat evolving into addictive ballistic chaos at times.. an oldskool mixture of control and submission to the waves of smart enemies (I love those security door locks!). Darkness and light pooring into and out of the well designed levels. Weapon upgrades that feel modern but somehow classic. A good marriage of what worked back in 1993 and what a FPS still can be without regenerating, over-looting and overhyped nonsense.

+classic epic combat
+hyperspeed gameplay
+flawless 1080p60 by the masters of IDsoftware
+the endless possibilities of SnapMap
+campaign feels more like original DOOM 1 & 2
+multiplayer is as fun as campaign

-not enough punch in weapon sounds in current surround soundmix (a headset solves this partially)
-season pass for mp maps while players can generate free maps in SnapMap

15 tips to get you started in Overwatch

hiscore

Brilliant game -already- but it will leave casual players in the cold.. even those able and willing to contribute to teamplay. Matchmaking is a roulette and having to play with dedicated teams to fully enjoy the game already leads to specialized communities vs 'noobs' (all the rest). So again, in my opinion that's Overwatch's only design flaw at the moment (as was Destiny's limited access to certain content for friends teams.. which they opened up recently).

Destiny: The Taken King director defends £40 expansion price tag

hiscore

It's a gamble. If enough people pay 40 bucks for an add-on then they'll say it's 'justified pricing'.. and prices will continue to rise in the future. Look at those so-called deals at the PSN store.. 90 to 100 bucks for game + dlc/season pass = twice the price we used to pay for everything back in the old days. As long as people are willing to sponsor this, the more prices will rise. Wait for the bargains. Patience = money!

The latest Witcher 3 patch is... 1.07

hiscore

I hope patch 1.05 will also bring following fixes to PS4:

-fixed input delay (the inventory!)
-fixed interaction with objects (chests, herbs etc.)
-quick save/load without use of menu
-fixed main menu music bug
-customizable hud elements (size/position/on/off/transparency)
-fixed deadzone/sensitivity for walking-to-running transition
-fixed combat targeting bug (R3)
-fixed any remaining performance issues (cutscenes-gameplay) to ensure consistent 1080p30

TW3 surely suggests being a GOTY contender, but for me and many other people, we like a game that feels like a console game in its fluidity of performance and controls. Seems like I bought this game too early.

Should you install The Witcher 3's day one patch?

hiscore

Reminds me of one of Skyrim's later PS3 patches where suddenly everything became blurrier (at least the ground/surface) textures.

If a company advertises something and then -at a later point in time- a patch decreases the visuals.. that's a bad thing for gamers. Especially when gfx were one of it's selling points.

Bloodborne review

hiscore

As essential a game Bloodborne is, it's technically flawed. 1080p30 with vsync locked should be an absolute minimum considering PS4 is able to handle more (yes there are games that challenge PS4 equally hard or even more). It's always about polish and that means development time (money) and commitment to a flawless graphical presentation. I'm loving Bloodborne, but any other game with this framerate performance would be returned to the shop. Patching the frame pacing should be easy, patching global performance output not so.. but I hope they will eventually.

Yes resolution matters. Just look at your recorded lower res video captures on PS4 and compare them with their native higher res sources in 1080p.

"Majority" of DriveClub owners can now connect online

hiscore

Still no CHALLENGES loading (or possibility of creating them) though. I get online 90% of the time but still missing some features. If you look at some Trophies percentages you see how rare certain unlocks are because they still not work. I really can't believe it's due to unsufficient server capacity. I guess it has something to do with aftermath of DDOS attack/PSN/Destiny related network issues/Driveclub.. maybe this isn't the last game to suffer from network issues. But I see a connection between those events. Also, the gaming press doesn't investigate enough on the matter (or cascade of network related issues since PSN got hacked). If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd say PS4's succes is obstructed by external force(s) and that PSN/network is their Achilles'heel. What good is your IP if it all depends on a vulnerable and insecure connection?

Destiny 1.0.2 patch changes how Engrams work

hiscore

So does this mean all my already decoded purple/blue engrams that became blue/green gear will revert to Legendary/blue items? Frankly.. if this is not the case many players will feel let down after so many hours of play without one single Legendary item. Also.. how can this still happen in a game that cost half a billion dollar is beyond my imagination. Like yesterday there was a serious amount of lag (i'm on a superfast internet).. it seems Halo 2 was smoother than this. Still, the game is attractive in many ways, but Bungie could have used a few millions on polish, netcode and QA testing before releasing this build of Destiny. I like it, but I hate it also..

A simple solution could be to grant Legendary stuff on an hours played basis. To insure people who've put much time in the game get what they deserve... so, not exclusively randomized. At least there could be some parameter which tracks your playtime that generates good stuff in your inventory. Another option is a one-time gift to all players being patient with their game. Costs nothing but regains public opinion. If Destiny is going to last 10 years, than they'd better invest in good relationship with ALL their customers.

Nvidia G-Sync: the end of screen-tear in PC gaming

hiscore

..we put the case that the reality of reviewing PC graphics cards had to move away from raw metrics and towards an appreciation of the gameplay experience, particularly in terms of consistency in update
Been saying this since screen tearing showed its ugly head on the first Xbox and it got accepted by the review community.. which allowed it to grow into the generation of Xbox 360 and PS3, even minimizing its esthetic effect on gameplay experience.

Now, FINALLY, a hardware solution is at hand. But what with Xbox One and PS4? Clearly missing the G-sync boat here. This technology could have been adopted earlier if said community and gpu manufacturers were a bit more critical for themselves.

At the very least, as a consumer and lifelong gamer with appreciation for artistic work and graphical design of developers I am happy and hopefull.. as long as this is not a new shortcut for some to become even more lazy in polishing their games. 1080p60 (screen tear free) should be a standard from now on. Sadly we've already seen plenty of evidence of PS4 and Xbox One games not even getting this straight on superior hardware.

Digital Foundry: the complete Xbox One architects interview

hiscore

Game developers are naturally incented to make the highest-quality visuals possible..
No they are not. If they were, we were getting more 1080p60 content on current gen and even more on future gen. But we all know this is not the case. The majority of game developers are naturally incented to earn money by obeying the publisher's deadlines (release schedules). There are exceptions, but they are few. That's why so many people are evading to pc: steam prices and visual fidelity.
