This will be my 4th copy of the game (6 if you include updates!). That addictive loot grind has got it's claws in me.

Have Blizzard confirmed if you need the Ninentdo subscription for local co-op (on multiple Switches)?

@NikiPicasso Thanks for this comment Niki. I've had similar experiences and even a boss who was that guy making those belittling comments. It makes you question yourself, your ability and I think it does make me sensitive about criticism coming from male colleagues.

@Stornatus
The Guardian did some analysis on their comment section:
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/apr/12/the-dark-side-of-guardian-comments
"Articles written by women got more blocked (ie abusive or disruptive) comments across almost all sections. But the more male-dominated the section, the more blocked comments the women who wrote there got"

Obviously this is not direct evidence of "Female devs have it worse", but indicative that women writing about male dominated subjects get more harassment on a leftie website.

It's time to stop running from gaming addiction

fragglerocks

Thanks for sharing your story Wes. My initial reaction to WHO announcement was dismissive and this article has made me remember when I've skated on the edge of letting a game take over my life.
I think it is something inherent in video games, perhaps closer to gambling than we'd like to admit. And something the industry should engage with and not just with gamers.

Good review, thanks Oli! I think I'll wait for this one to drop in price a bit and for when I feel like a bit of b-movie story fun.

Why the games media has a diversity problem - this website especially

fragglerocks

@taorhtpeeD It's not about complaining for the sake of it, it is about questioning whether stereotypes are helpful or harmful. That applies to games, movies, everything.

It makes me sad that you say you are not a feminist. Feminism is about wanting equality for all sexes, nothing more nothing less. It's a term that is misused and misappropriated so I can understand why you might not want to use it.

@Fourfoldroot It can be. I think GTA V is a great example. Male reviewers loved it, female reviewers also mostly loved it AND pointed out the problematic female characters. Different viewpoints are valuable, even if they all agree in a review score!

Great article Keza. I work in tech and this is so relevant. Diversity in leadership leads to diversity across an organisation, but making that initial change is so difficult. It takes brave people like yourself to fight past the negativity, whether explicit negativity or simply the feeling of "not belonging".
I think Eurogamer can and should do more. It's good to see them recognising this as an issue and reaching out to people for help.

Also if one more katana-wielding-drama-child stands in front of me asking for healing I'm going to reach through voice chat and give them a good slapping (no YOU have support-rage).

Meeting Andrzej Sapkowski, the writer who created The Witcher

fragglerocks

I've only read one of his books (and perhaps they get better), but I thought that the Witcher games (2 & 3) did a better job at fleshing Geralt out as a character (and Yen). In the book I read he felt a little one dimensional.

Perhaps that's an unfair comparison since the book took a few hours to read and the games took hundreds of hours to play!!

Diablo 3 players divided on 20th anniversary patch

fragglerocks

The January limit for the D1 level is odd, but I imagine it would get boring quickly as it's essentially a bit of a gimmick/nostalgia trip. Blizzard are pretty good at listenting to their audience so they could change their minds if it is really popular.

I don't have a problem with the Necoromancer being paid DLC. They've aleeady made, and continue to make, huge updates to the game for free.

@PumpkinExpert that's not how opinions work. By all means disagree with someone if you've read their piece and don't share their opinion.
If you are disagreeing with someone simply because they are female then you are a sexist idiot.
I've no doubt that Aoife knows a shit ton more about video games than you and therefore is supremely qualified to have an opinion on video games.

Time to kill genre?

fragglerocks

It's an interesting argument and I wonder how much lazy marketing has to with genres. It's much easier to classify something broadly to come up with a sales/marketing plan/forecast.

P.S. the mentions in the comments of day one purchasing being a "business plan" is a bit misleading. Consumers are the ones leading that "business plan" with their purchasing behaviours in games, films & music. Businesses definitely feed into that and probably amiplify it with their advertising etc but it's primarily driven by us.

Somebody made Generic FPS: The Movie and it is stupid and amazing

fragglerocks

@Ceelion I hope it's great and it's everything people wants it to be. I just don't understand why people want it to be made.

We don't play FPS for their stories, we play them because it's fun to run around and shoot things. This movie is taking that core fun thing; the gameplay, and leaving everything that is usually awful about FPS's the story, the generic characters, dodgy voice action.
But obvs there is a lot of excitement about it, so enjoy!

I've only managed to play a couple of hours of both gta4 and gta5. Despite loving the gameplay, the world and characters were not something I wanted the spend time with.

For everyone saying it's just a bit of fun, see the last couple of Saints Rows games. They got the stupid violence but real characters pretty much bang on.
