Monster Boy's Gamescom trailer shows off six playable characters

I love the original...gameplay looks ace....graphics not so much...its all a bit to bland and predictable...You know I am sure I will get flamed for saying anything at all negative. I should probably not post anything at all. As my grandfather would say "if you don't have something good to say, then don't say it at all"

Sometimes kickstarter is used to gauge player interest. And if there isn't enough maybe Microsoft won't grant the licence. It's possible the 250k has a bit of that in it "prove people want it and you can make it"....or they could just need the money of course.

Dear Donald: How video games could help you trump Hillary

barnard666

I do love your articles Ellie, but what I find sad about games journalism is that it seems to be less and less about games.

I recently made a game called “Campaign Clicker” (mobile/Steam - soon) It’s about Donald V Hillary V Bernie etc. I tried to do something unique by including real politics (the characters use their live tweets for speech bubbles), and allowing players to get their voices into the game when they tweet us. I wanted the game to be like a real world pin-board for people to say what they feel about the candidates, while I also hoped that the game would help people learn more about the candidates they were voting for. I wanted to achieve various other things with the game too. While I am not expecting you to write about my game (I have long since given up asking any sites to review my games, despite having more 5 million downloads across my last 3 titles).

I think it’s sad that so much space is given over to gossip pieces and opinion articles, while so many games drift by unwritten about. I guess it’s what readers want, because if they weren't clicking it, you wouldn't write it.

It just feels that a serious article about political games (like mine!) and how they try to actually to impact or mimic real life politics might have been more interesting and useful.

This was my number one game of 2015...really amazing I played the whole thing in two sittings...I couldn't sleep because I was so I to it...(it took me months to play call of duty through, so I don't do this often) but yeah I hate horror games, because I don't want stress from playing games. But the story carried me through it!

Toki Tori developer Two Tribes is shutting down

barnard666

I think their branding wasn't very strong, Tokio tori sounds like a bad game from just it's name, (yes Toki influences me) rive should do better! Let's hope it pulls them out of the tail spin.

I also run a studio out in singapore (although I am english)... Is very very hard, we dropped our premium games and ad to go free to play, the market just doesn't work anymore like it used to. I love having millions of people play our games, but if you screw it up a bit (like I did on our last game "the last vikings") you end up making a big loss. So no market is safe.

I think the comment about schools is a valid one, when students graduate, there aren't jobs for them, so they have a go at the indie dream. 98% probably fail, but with no overheads they release a game and there is a chance it's a good one...if it isn't then it's just more noise in the market.

Around me almost all the indie studios are made of fresh graduates, and they are taking no salary, and living at home. I have to pay staff costs and office bills etc which puts me in a very difficult situation comparatively..I feel the games industry is following the path of the music industry (which I escaped may years ago). People working for passion and not money, because games are so cool...but like humble drives down the cost of software, people working for passion and low project costs drives down the viability of games as a business.

I am unbelievably disappointed bybthe volume of negativity you are all spewing at a man whos biggest crime is his eagerness to share his hopes for his projects. Did you guys read the interview even? I find him an inspiration, despite all the shit the world throws at him he still has passion for making games. With hatred like this, perhaps he will never tall to anyone again. I am guessing many of you think he is a fucker just because you want to ride the mobs opinion wave. Try to see the good in people, particularly people who are so open and passionate about what they do.

The Nintendo difference: Wii U's first two years

barnard666

My Wii-U is the most played of the 3 current gen consoles, I think nintendo are just struggling to shake the opinion that they make the "kiddy console" regardless of if it's true or not.

Gamers now are reared on Playstations and XBoxes, with testosterone filled Gears or War(s) and God of War(s)....Mario looks like a 4PM cartoon in comparison...despite being better than any of them.

Rust dev angers fans by announcing new prototype Riftlight

barnard666

I can't really see any reason to get upset...You guys are way out of line on this...it's like you want to crush the studio's creativity! making a game takes a very long time, Gary's mod was a very successful product, with the money from that I am sure they can fund a whole heap of games, and while early access might seem like you footing the bill, it's a way of you getting a game "early" and being given the chance to help influence it's development.

I think you should all try to get a bit of perspective.

PS4, Vita get hallucinatory death game One Way Trip

barnard666

this really looks like a game made by students, who thought it would be 'funny'.
While I don't want to judge a game a haven't played, I hope the PS doesnt end up flooded with low end amateur games. This looks like a shaky flash game, and will just add noise to the store, I don't want an apple like Playstation App-Store, I want to expect a certain level of quality, so I can feel safe spending my money.

Top dog or underdog? Microsoft's new indie initiative

barnard666

As a registered playstation and Nintendo developer, I have so much to say about this...but I really shouldn't. I wish they were a bit more responsive to emails, and a bit more open about their selection process, as a company I don't necessarily need a free dev kit, but I at least need to be able to get hold of one without waiting for their mysterious selection process to get round to me.

It's a great initiative, it just feels a bit restrictive / selective right now.

UK budget fails to include games tax relief

barnard666

@Deionarra I agree with you, but if other countries (such as Singapore where I now live) offer such great incentives, then why would you pick the UK to start your business? countries want businesses in them, that's why they offer these things, because the cuts are insignificant next to the profits.
(note I am from Dorset, but moved to Asia when there were better opportunities for me, those opportunities existed in part because of the tax breaks offered to the big US company that I originally moved out here to join. without those tax breaks they would never have started an office here, and me and a small group of other Europeans would still be working in Europe)

Console developers need to look at Dungeon Keeper and learn

barnard666

One of the problems is that the charts are dominated by these games, because they are addictive, free, and earn a lot of money...so if you release a paid game (or even one with less extreme microtransactions), you wont chart, and therefore wont make money. you can't beat them, so you have to join them. I don't see this trend going away anytime soon. I wish this while thing had never started in the first place, its a bit like someone launching a nuke, then everyone else has to in order to stay competitive
