Sam Fisher officially joins Ghost Recon Wildlands from tomorrow

Ubisoft's continuing post release support of its games is something to not only be cheered it's something other publishers should be copying, they're doing great work.

Super Bomberman R comes to Xbox One in June

Whizzo

Considering how iffy the controls are in Bombing Busters I'd say that's a pretty terrible recommendation.

Glad this is coming to the other consoles, I just hope it's sensibly priced as it's a bit pricey on Switch.

edit: oh it's 35 quid, well one for a sale then, Konami what are you doing?

Far Cry 5 film launched on Amazon Prime

Whizzo

It's awful, really, really bad.

It's OK for a while, nothing special but certainly not the worst thing in the universe and then (spoiler protection just in case) when the three escape they turn into cold blooded killers slaughtering cult members like there's no tomorrow as they try to escape. Now that's something that's usual nonsense for an FPS but this is a live action short.

The Ghost Recon:Wildlands film set up the death of Ricky Sandoval which is what triggers the Ghosts going into Bolivia in that game and it worked.

The Division's was all over the place but introduced the factions and the SHD but didn't do much else but was OK as a piece of PR.

Ubisoft should probably think these shorts through a tad more.

Interesting news, portable view is coming back hurrah!

Oh and Rauper had sold up but that's a small thing in comparison to portable view.

Good luck to the good ship Gamernetwork and all who sail in her for the future.

Metal Gear Survive review - surprisingly enjoyable horror spin-off

Whizzo

Spent an enjoyable evening playing this on my PS4, it's rather trickier than I was expecting after the beta as food and water play a huge part.

Certainly not unhappy with the 20 quid I spent on it.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 review

Whizzo

I was really happy to hear of the demise of the season pass, it's just typical EA in that they end up actually making a worse choice instead.

This ageing Star Wars fan, who saw the first film when it was just called Star Wars at release, is giving this a wide berth until EA regains their senses or never if they don't.

Video games and improv are made for each other

Whizzo

Things going wrong in games like Wildlands is always when I enjoy them most, no time to come up with a complex strategy or battle plan just react and see what happens.

Whether it works or not doesn't really matter, the glorious failures have a lot of the time been the most memorable and fun parts of the game.

You would think by now someone at Eurogamer would have realised it doesn't have a : in the title.

Great game though, easily one of the best of the year but strangely not even a recommended here.

Destiny 2 physical sales down by half from Destiny 1

Whizzo

@Wayne I bought and played Destiny a lot when it came out, skipped the season pass DLC and then rebought it again when everything (game+SP DLC+TK) was on sale on PSN.

Played it a lot again but Rise of Iron was too pricey for me to bother with and when the real complete package was on sale the price of RoI was now a whole 1 cheaper than buying everything.

At this point I decided to move on to other things and will leave it a long while before I consider Destiny 2.

Whizzo

After the way the DLC was launched piecemeal I've decided to wait until there's a more complete version of it some time down the line without paying a huge amount for it.

I was always a more casual Destiny player anyway so I'm in no hurry, there's probably a lot of similar people in the same boat.

Given the pricing of digital copies there's absolutely no way that's the reason in the massive drop in numbers though.

The best thing about getting a sword in the first game was being able to use it do the shite first person jumping parts in third person.

@emysdk I didn't get an objective marker. It also wasn't obvious, three turbines that are down holes that a lot of the time you'd think were instant death in games like this.

PS4 external storage tested: 4TB hard drive vs SSD performance

Whizzo

One thing to consider if you're using a Pro and want to connect a USB drive to the rear port, using rest mode and a bus powered device will cause it to disconnect every time you put it to sleep. I've tried every possible power setting to no avail, I guess Sony only put it there for PSVR reasons really and don't keep it powered in rest mode.

A self-powered one will possibly work fine but the only ones I've got have data on I couldn't move elsewhere so wasn't prepared to try it out.

Anyhow the 480 gig SSD I've got in an external enclosure connected to the *front* of my Pro has been working very nicely indeed. It's not the cheapest thing to do but it is nice and zippy.

Let's raise a glass to Ubisoft's other open world game set in San Francisco

Whizzo

It was my 2011 GOTY, fantastic fun with some incredibly different gameplay due to the shifting allowing/requiring you to do things that no other game has ever done before and no-one has copied since.

The multiplayer was excellent too as was the replay editor that allowed you to share your driving antics from the website.

Shame there's been no return to the series since.

A nice and short example of the editor.

Not too surprised that screenshot sharing via PS4 isn't working either.

So far I'm enjoying it a lot which is the main thing.

XCOM 2: Yes, it's harder, but you also care more

Whizzo

I unfortunately didn't find this XCOM as enjoyable as the previous Firaxis title, the huge amount of timed missions with very short timers were really annoying. I didn't want to turtle my way to finishing missions but it forced you to do things you rather wouldn't otherwise you'd run out of turns.

Things were much improved with a mod that didn't start the clock until you broke stealth, so sneaking around like a resistance movement had real effect.

From my time in the beta I felt the graphics were great as was the lighting, it's got a superb Soviet aesthetic and that's about when the positives ran out.

It feels more like a job than a game and not a particularly fun one, even when it fully releases as F2P I'm not sure I'll download it again.
