One of my favourite games of the last 10 years.

The aspect I really enjoyed was the opportunity for light handholding of other players which, firstly other players afforded me, guiding me toward a couple of the more obscure secrets, and then I reciprocated for other players in later playthroughs. The subtlety of the different cloaks adds to the kudos of becoming a 'trainer' as such.

Ironically, despite spending hours guiding other players, the one trophy I didn't get was the one for completing an end-to-end playthrough with the same player. I thought I did it a few times, but the games one social failing is the black-box approach to binding to another player between levels - very easy to get separated... which I guess in itself adds another unintentional emotional layer :(

Persistence of state between game sequels has always intrigued me, eg. Mass Effect, or Banner Saga. Continuity of the game world experience is a huge reward, and positively encourages loyalty to the brand. Great column to sign off Alexis, all the best.

Argos Black Friday Deals 2016

The multiple Black Friday "news" pieces is a continuation of the concerning trend toward useless articles which are nothing but a confusing SEO driven mess. If they were structured and updated in any sort of useful manner you might actually get some commission from these links. As it is they just clog up the front page. Stick to what you know guys, or get someone in who does. Next up: "You won't believe what Eurogamer looks like these days!"

Once more Eurogamer throw their own editorial standards out of the window:Advertising and commercial activitiesWe sometimes link to retailers (e.g. Amazon) and receive money from any purchases made. These links do not influence editorial decisions in any way. They only appear in articles related to the product in question and use neutral language, for example: "Order [this product] from Amazon."

Coincidentally I'm after $100,000 to fund my Kickstarter project for self-growing turnip seeds - they will only need sowing, watering, feeding and harvesting.

Most of the money will be spent on booze and strippers (very reasonable expenses when you look at any business).

I do enjoy these pieces, but they're getting a little familiar...

It would be nice for EG to commission some articles written by a wider gaming demographic than (a) 35-40 year old males who remember sitting in dark bedrooms waggling a joystick; (b) mildly attractive 30-35 year old females with a 'controversial' opinion.

Surely the Playstation generation have a thing or two to offer? And I'd suggest there are plenty of pensioners waiting for Halo 5 to download also.

Alexis Kennedy on: The Labyrinth

Trowel

The Binding of Isaac is a good example of how a maze can present a game-changing balance of risk/reward - the route to the boss and the next floor is often found early, leaving the player with the question of whether to explore the remaining unknown rooms hoping for top tier items/pickups, but with time/survival always in the back of the mind.

The best Vita games

Trowel

Can tell it's a bank holiday with automated news releases, no editorial staff to stop Vita articles going out :)

Pinball Arcade is the perfect Vita game, at least on the tables that Farsight optimised correctly.

Binding of Isaac is also one of the best games, but one where Vita's portability is a flaw in that it's easily thrown D:
