Nintendo's 2017: two seismic shifts, and the conundrum that will decide its future

Stu

This feels like a winner to me.

As well as fulfilling Nintendo's traditional heartland of a more family-friendly console offer, it's also got a lot of draw for time-poor traditional console gamers. I count myself amongst that second category, and for me it's a really appealing second console after my PS4.

"Infinite" implies that we can never come to some kind of peaceful, diplomatic resolution.

Sony remains "committed to providing Driveclub PS Plus Edition"

Stu

Even with the farce that is this game's network situation, there are some wonderful driving moments to be had in this game still. Mostly - time trial, solo, point to point, i.e. away from the manic AI and the mental server. There's the bones of a great game here, it just needed (another) year.

Destiny review

Stu

Good review.

It's a brave game - not easy to 'get' if you've not played an MMO (as I haven't), and when judged as a FPS it's an odd mixture of well balanced mechanics with ill-balanced missions. It appears persistence and time are required - and I'm not sure how much of either people have nowadays.

When will video games look this good?

Stu

@MattEvansC3 It's true that games with timelessly 'great' graphics are those which have shyed away from pursuing photorealism.

But I think it's short-sighted to think we'll 'never' get past the uncanny valley. Just think how far games have come in the last 10 years. Sure we're now seeing depreciating returns, but surely in 10, 20, 100 years from now we'll have photorealism?

GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony was a brilliant piece of DLC.

It introduced rounded new characters in a plot line that cleverly interwove with that of the rest of the characters', added fun new toys and (literally) lifted the lid on the gameworld - all of which added hours to what was already an amazingly rich game experience.
