This week's free Witcher 3 DLC is...

SteveEvil

@WeeDosh @Jules1988 I can see it on the American storefront with my alt account, lets me download it, but then sits there 'Waiting to install' and won't let me do anything with it, so presumably the DLC doesn't work with the EU copy of the game, though I don't know why.

I've been really impressed with remote play on my Vita whilst away from home connecting over the internet, granted, it's not perfect, but for games where split-second timing isn't imperative it's one of those supremely impressive bits of tech. The fact that this phone only works on a local network would rule it out for me.

Call of Duty: Ghosts sells $1bn into retail worldwide for launch

@callum9999 If they're not obsessed with it, why announce pointless figures like this, 36 hours after the game launches?

SteveEvil

@callum9999 regardless, Activision confidently announced a few weeks back that they were going to sell more than GTA V. This latest press release smacks of desperation.

It's the first year I've not bothered with the franchise, after playing it solidly for a weekend and realising there really was nothing fresh there. Asking a few friends why they're buying it and they've said that all they wanted was more guns and maps, so they're definitely in the if it ain't broke camp, but maybe only buy one or two games a year themselves.

Injustice joins Sony's PS3 to PS4 digital upgrade programme

SteveEvil

I'm interested to see what this 'discounted price' will be, as there's the potential to buy the current gen game nice and cheap, then pay less overall for the PS4 copy than you would by getting it elsewhere, especially as they all seem to be going for around £50 in most of the shops.

It does look like you'll need to have the PS3 disc in the drive when you want to play the PS4 digital copy though, so no chance of selling that to recoup some of the cost.

Rousing Battlefield 4 single-player campaign trailer

SteveEvil

It all looks a bit too heavily scripted and trying too hard to be Call of Duty, so I'm not expecting it to be that much better than the Battlefield 3 single player game. Battlefield's strength is the emergent gameplay that you get from the sandbox you're given in multiplayer, not some scripted action sequences.

@kristaylor Don't you think that was a little hasty? ShopTo have just said on their twitter that they'll be contacting people, starting with those that ordered first, on Monday about upgrading to one of these packs. It even says in the article that Sony have requested the retailers contact people in the order that they reserved one, so Amazon will likely contact anyone in the queue first before making them generally available.

Always a popular one at our house, Assassins seems to be the most popular, with Death Race a close second. Attempting to move like the computer is easily undone with just the slightest wrong move and you've given the game away.

@skunkfish it's not looking good for Turnips in my town this week, bought for 100 and they've been dropping like it's 2008 all over again. I'm praying there's some good news tomorrow or I'm going to have to offload them at a serious loss.

@Revolver2000 I'd say it's one of those games that you'll want to add into your daily routine. I get in a 20 minute patrol after breakfast, then go back in the evening to do what wasn't available to me in the morning. I can see this continuing for some time, as there's always something new to do.

It's perhaps not worth a 3DS on its own, but combine it with Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion 2 and the forthcoming Zelda and every gamer should have a 3DS in their life. I barely used my old DS, but I'm getting my monies-worth from the 3DS XL.

For some reason, the one thing that I'm reminded of in this game was dropping down a hole, then holding left on the d-pad and going through a hidden wall, where a bunch of secret goodies was waiting. Can't really remember much else about it, besides it being an enjoyable romp.

Loosely related to the story, I broke my arm when I was 15 and my Dad offered to get me a Saturn game whilst I was recuperating, I had the choice of Resident Evil or Shining Force 3 and I picked Resident Evil. That's the one gaming decision that I still look back on and wonder if I made the right choice.

Ever wondered what the author of The Witcher books thinks about the games?

SteveEvil

Modest chap. He's wrong if he really thinks that the books are more likely to have influenced the popularity of the games, rather than the other way round. I started to read The Last Wish, but I too found it was too dry. Were it not for the games though I'd never have known of their existence, nor felt compelled to investigate further.

Assassin's Creed 3 review

SteveEvil

@Cjail I can't answer that one really, I've tended just to sit and wait for the counter signs to flash up, sorry.

You can mix up the fights, killing one person with your sword, then shooting the next with a pistol. The pistols predictably take some time to reload, so you'll want to be sure not to waste any shots. You can craft a second holster later on in the game which lets you carry two pistols though.
2 0

SteveEvil

@Cjail I can say that there is less of the enemy waiting their turn in combat now, mostly they'll come at you 1 by 1, but occasionally two will attack at once. Provided you counter one successfully, you'll get a cool animation where you'll take down both attackers, getting one to shoot the other for example.

Assassin's Creed 3 fuelled by in-game micro-transactions

SteveEvil

@Markusdragon Unfortunately there's still an online pass in the box, and you get prompted to redeem this as soon as you start the game. I've no intention of going online with it, but still felt bullied by the game into redeeming the code.

As a further aside, try your hardest to avoid reading anything about the storyline before playing, it's a real treat and I can imagine easily ruined with a little too much knowledge.

@FireMonkey Also, even if you haven't used the password and username elsewhere, if the password is not any good then it can be quite easily cracked. If you are only using lower case letters for your pass it can be cracked in a matter of seconds. You really need a password with upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols for it to be good enough to stop someone with determination to crack into it.

Not strictly true, whilst something with upper case, numbers and symbols will be harder for a human to guess, a computer will have no problem:
