Zelda: Breath of the Wild's Fire Keese has an interesting reaction to rain

My favourite detail has to be when you try to break the game by flying as high as you can, the rain gradually turns to snow the further up you go.

It could mean AMD are an option again for budget builds.

It's a bad gameplay mechanic, it's not obvious and adds nothing to the experience.

Unlike the the famous Street Fighter combo glitch example which is intuitive and certainly adds to the experience.

Mojang's CCG Scrolls is coming to tablets

ResidentKnievel

This game was good early on when the decent low mana scrolls that form the spine of decks were easy to acquire and the rares were mostly luxury high mana cards that weren't necessary to have fun.

But they've steadily introduced loads of rare, really powerful low mana scrolls which are needed to not get walked over. There's a huge barrier to entry for new players, now, it's not worth the long grind to eventually have fun.

ResidentKnievel

Do you not see how the games' economy will be massively effected by people being able to buy in-game items with money? They're going to devalue the experience, EVE wouldn't have the same impact if you could buy in-game items and money (that have been created out of thin air rather than by other players) with real life cash, it's part of the reason why DUST 514 feels so flat.

I truly find it disgusting that a game that's already raised $35 million and is going to be a full-priced game is going to have micro-transactions as a major part of the game.

I sincerely hope it's so amazing that these issues don't matter when it's released, so backers get their money's worth.

ResidentKnievel

Star Citizen looks cool, but the whole being a full priced game with micro-transactions and being crowd-funded doesn't sit right with me.

I hope those who have invested a lot of money in this don't end up disappointed.

Game looks nice, gameplay looks like a sensible iteration following on from Mario Kart 7/Wii.

I'm sure it'll be fun but I doubt it'll blow me away like Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed.

Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed is free this weekend on Steam

ResidentKnievel

@Pit-O-Matic

Sonic racing has reverse rubber banding, the strength of which diminishes during a race.

For example on the highest difficulty you could put in a world record lap time for your first lap of a race but still be in 5th, then put in a couple of decent laps for your next two and finish 1st.

Still an amazing kart game that unfortunately hasn't seemingly forced Nintendo to up their game for Mario Kart 8.

Wii U graphics power finally revealed

ResidentKnievel

"The answer is fairly straightforward - leaks tend to derive from development kit and SDK documentation and, as we understand it, this crucial information simply wasn't available in Nintendo's papers, with developers essentially left to their own devices to figure out the performance level of the hardware."

Art style is poor, too, they should have went with Amarr and Minmatar vehicles and buildings on interesting planets, but they decided to go with grey and boring Gallente and Caldari first on temperate planets.

I know it's better to start simple but they've been working on this game for 5 years now with two studios in China and Newcastle. There's a severe lack of art assets (severe lack of everything) to show for that amount of development time.

I've been playing it for the last few days, it's still rather broken, the whole "some players being better equipped than other players" dynamic just doesn't work that well in an instanced FPS.

It doesn't have good counter play:

http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/counter-play

A lot of the counters to things you'll come up against in this game require you to have been playing the game for a while and specialized in for that play-style. Fine for an MMO, but for an instanced FPS with MMO mechanics lightly sprinkled on top it doesn't really work.

Orbis unmasked: what to expect from the next-gen PlayStation

ResidentKnievel

The CPU being used in these consoles is a very low power tablet part that takes up a minuscule amount of silicon, that doesn't sound like it'll be expensive to make, the GPU's aren't sounding too beastly either.

The expensive parts of these consoles will probably be the GDDR5 RAM in the PS4, the embedded RAM in the Xbox 3 and any gimmicky controllers they decide to pack in.

I'm hoping they'll retail for 300 or less, they're not shaping up to be the exotic and/or high-powered consoles we've had in previous generations.
