It's fantastic that they give players these options, hats off to Insomniac, but the way this is framed really feels like a cash-in on a trendy controversy.

Dark Souls director now president of From Software

Nevflinn

My thanks to Eurogamer for crediting him for directing Demon's Souls. Too many news outlets I've seen have ignored that.

While I'm worried it might mean no more directing on his part, I've every confidence that he'll do a great job as president. His work with For Answer, Demon's Souls and Dark Souls is all the evidence anyone needs to see that.

Good luck, Miyazaki!

Nintendo - A Sad Story part two Triforces Link to open chests forever

Nevflinn

@TonyHarrison A lot of that is media hype, though; journalists know that big properties like Zelda are guaranteed clicks, so they look for a way to make articles about them.

But I agree, Nintendo are in a situation where they just can't please everyone. People want Nintendo to slow down on Zelda releases so they can get a more polished, original and creative divergence from the Zeldas that came before, but people also want another Zelda so they can continue opening those treasure chests.

Demon's Souls retrospective

Nevflinn

Demon's Souls was never about winning, but learning how to fail.
The perfect opening. You might think the inverse, given how punishing the game behaves towards death, but it's the player who gets broken down and is able to pick themselves back together that wins in the end. We took our losses as they came, learned from each of our failures, and kept trying despite our setbacks. Sometimes we discovered what we were doing wrong, other times a caring player gave us a hint, and other times they offered a hand and helped us through that valley of defilement. But those of us who could fail with grace made it in the end.

Demon's Souls didn't just try to teach me a valuable life lesson - it made me learn it. There is so little about its wonders that my words can do justice.

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney review

@IneptPercy Typically because Phoenix happens to be in the right (his clients are usually innocent), and also because he can really hold his ground against Edgeworth.

Their cases have been pretty close calls, you gotta admit.

Thanks for doing this, Eurogamer. It feels much more refreshing and far less sensational than simply giving us a list of journalist picks.

That said, Dark Souls II. If it has the ambition of Dark Souls with the polish of Demon's Souls then it will be fantastic.

Capcom may shed half its European staff

Nevflinn

It does bother me the European branch is the one suffering - those people weren't the ones responsible for the low calibre of games like RE6 and Lost Planet 3, nor are they shown as unreasonable as Capcom Japan has been.

Nintendo legend Hiroshi Yamauchi dies aged 85

Nevflinn

Hiroshi Yamauchi left massive shoes to be filled the day he parted ways from Nintendo. Today, he left a hole in our hearts to be filled only by our memories of him. It's hard to fathom just how great a difference this man made in the industry, but it's safe to say that I'm thankful he was in it.

Lost Planet 3 review

Nevflinn

This sounds like a game that wanted to be something unique, but the publisher deadline caught up to it very quickly. I want to play Lost Planet 3's first act just to understand the design, and the rest of the game because I want to understand how it went wrong with whatever it tried to do next.

Splinter Cell Blacklist review

Nevflinn

I'm sure that as a game this is superb, but from the point of story - which matters a lot to me - it seems the writers should really have heeded the message of Spec Ops: The Line before penning the script.

It sounds like they made a good game, but I don't want a game that tells me I'm a hero while it makes me act like a monster.

The Wind Waker's missing dungeons were reused in other Zelda games

Nevflinn

I couldn't understand how people weren't as enamored by sailing across the ocean in Wind Waker like I was. Who cares about convenience - all those waters and waves just screamed adventure. What reefs would I discover if I went this way? Will I be attacked by any monsters? What secret treasures or friendly travellers might I find on this island, which might be in this one uncharted speck that I've yet to explore? And might I chance a sighting of that chilling ghost ship?

It was perfect to me. Every time I go to the ocean I'm reminded of it. I only wanted that ocean to get bigger, not smaller. I don't think I'd be happy if the ocean suddenly shrunk to a lake.

Nevflinn

@Whizzo Yes, but the point is that the system itself won't be to blame for spoiling people. If Sony hadn't spotted this potential calamity now, then you and I both would likely be laughing at them when it releases and the ending for Mass Effect 6 gets spoiled like an outbreak of plague because Sony made it so easy for them to.

Extensive Skullgirls patch finally coming to XBLA

Nevflinn

Pleased to hear it! The delay on Microsoft's end has already cost them my sale and rewarded Sony, but it's good that the XBL crowd can enjoy a better balanced version of the game.

Also Eurogamer, please note that the fundraiser got them much more than just Squigly, Big Band and a third character - namely, a second votable DLC character. Add this with the Robo-Fortune character they've thrown in, and that leaves 5 characters total for them to make.

Kill the guys there, then lure the minotaur close by so you can climb the ladder and perform a plunging attack on him. Do three of those and you should win - but be sure to give yourself time to climb the ladder before he knocks you off it!

@DeusTerra If mental health problems were easy for mentally healthy people to understand, would anyone today be suffering from them? I know you were asking for clarity, but I'm not sure what else I can say about them than that.

@Dark-Soul I hope so. :)
0 0

Nevflinn

@ZachForrest @Dark-Soul Good points, but I wasn't really thinking in the sense of Indiegogo as a whole - I was thinking of her on a personal level. I'm presuming the motive wasn't "I just want to be richer because I like money, so I'll scam people", but that she has some personal mental problem that drove her to do this. I'm being fearful of that story developing into something that only a tabloid would be callous enough to touch, but perhaps I should trust Eurogamer better than that.

And if it is fraud, then I do agree; we deserve to hear why.

Nevflinn

Might I make a small request? On the chance that this is a scam, I'd like for Eurogamer not to report too heavily onto it. Highlighting a crowdfunder to save the life of a game developer is something I am fine with since it can relate to me should I choose to donate, but if it turns out to be she's suffering a personal breakdown or anything that tragic, putting it in the public eye wouldn't be, well, as tasteful. Definitely not what games journalism is about, at least.

BioShock 2 is the underrated human heart of the BioShock trilogy

Nevflinn

I was one of those people who skipped out on Bioshock 2 out of principle. At the time, I saw it as nothing more than a cash grab with some good developers behind it. But I still felt like they were tampering with something that was complete - Rapture's story was finished.

And perhaps I am both right and wrong. Indeed, it's over with, but if Bioshock 2 is a story about the people rather than the city and its ideas, then maybe it's time for me to see them try to leave that city behind. Perhaps it would have been better received had this angle been played up? And everything I've seen of Eleanor and the hints about the ending so far just make me feel a little teary...

Thanks Mr. Cobbett: you've convinced me to give it a shot.
