This seems stupid. If they want to control who gets the kits then maybe they should institute an application process to weed out the casual re-sellers.

Gamers rage at Sony over GTA 5 PS3 pre-release download delay

Huxley82

@monkeychris
Its an extra 15 quid BECAUSE physical media still exists. Unlike Valve, Sony cant afford to upset retailers who sell consoles for them. They wont even try to compete against them.
2 1

Huxley82

I cant think of a single example of a Steam preload getting cracked opened prematurely. Surely they only have to with hold a few mb of crucial data until release and there is no danger of it happening.

Anyway, the PSN version of GTA 5 is an extra 15 quid, has no paper map and no resale value. The only main benefit was the possibility playing the moment the game was released. Unless you have amazing internet its completely pointless to bother with.

Is there anything in the content of the threat that suggested she was in any immediate danger?

Just as in the case of the COD developers, these "death threats" are more than likely just extreme forms of trolling or idiots trying to be edgy by referencing murder and rape.

On the internet its very easy to be extreme and say the worst thing in the world to someone and then shrug it off as nothing. The targets of these threats need to realise this and be equally blasť about the matter. Even taking stand and trying to campaign against this behaviour is pointless. Everyone knows a troll likes nothing more than attention.

I found 3-starring each level was a nice challenge. aI never felt the pay-for plants were needed. If I failed a level there was always some mistake I made or inefficiency from choosing the wrong seed packets combo.

I've played about 5 hours. Not spent a penny. Its great fun! The levels feel perfectly tuned for the stock plants, the bought ones would feel like cheating to be honest.

Its not really the "speed" of doing things, so much as dexterity of all the key presses involved. An interface panel that summerises your buildings and unit production is something that would absolutely force you to look away from battles and "multitask" - just without all the tedious manual control group configuation

"No need to ruin other styles of strategy games to make them all the same."

Make what the same and what would it be the same as? SC is unique in many facets and simple interface improvements would not dimish that.

"you trying to say that learning piano isn't fun and engaging or something"
In my opinion, its not fun when you are a beginner and have to actually think about the physical finger positioning. When you are good enough (well practised) to hit the keys perfectly without thinking - then its fun.
3 1

Huxley82

Its the "mechanical" aspect of the game that prevents it from being as accessible and popular as a Moba. Fundamental actions that could be automated or streamlined are intentionally left for the player to perform manually. You can win game after game simply by being good at the interface and building units faster than your opponent - no actual "strategy" required.

For example, there is no easy interface to quickly create new building. You have to click on a worker (or have one pre-assigned to a group), issue the "build" or "build advanced" command, then choose a building, then choose the precise placement. This could all be replaced by "hold down B and click on ground -> menu panel pops up, click on the building you want -> nearest worker automatically comes and builds then returns to mining".

Similarly, the HUD does very little to assist you with army production. There is no interface panel to tell you how many barracks and factories you have or the progress of the units constructing inside. You have to manually add each building to a "control group" and frequently select this group to see when its time to order a new round of units. In addition, queueing units is impractical, as you are forced to pay up-front for everything rather than only paying when they begin production.

There is certainly "skill" in mastering the interface through keyboard shortcuts - akin to learning basic chords on a piano. None of this is fun or engaging for your brain though - its just muscle memory. I would much prefer it if the fundamental "build buildings + build army" required less skill and let the actual battles and decision making be the true test.

It isn't just about price. There will always be a superior selection and stock from online shopping. Unlike say Clothes or Homeware items, physically picking up and looking at a DVD case is not an effective appraisal of its worth.

Manually having to train workers allows for subtle deviations in the standard build orders. Its common for expert players to interupt worker production at a precise time order to get a certain unit faster and that becomes a key part of their gameplan. Its only repetative if you choose it to be.
