Warframe dev 'hits pause' on deck-building shooter The Amazing Eternals

Gurrah

The art was great but the game was just bland, really. Changing the game’s name between alpha and beta didn't really help draw in players either – I mean from "Keystone" to "The Amazing Eternals" – there's no connection between the two names whatsoever, if you were excited for Keystone you would've missed all news about The Amazing Eternals.

The Amazing Eternals is the next game from the people behind Warframe

Gurrah

@pelican_ Yes, I got an invite to the Alpha. Played it a couple of times but couldn't find anything particularly enjoyable amongst the obvious Alpha state of the game. Apart from the art it really is very bland and doesn't bring anything new to the table, which is a shame.

Gurrah

Lol, what? How come they called it Keystone during Alpha and changed the name now … also, I signed up for the Alpha because I dig the art but the game is just so bland it doesn't feel like a game by DE at all.

As ever, direct violence feels like failure.
Sorry? Direct violence feels brilliant in this game, it's such a shame the game basically punishes you for using the arsenal at your disposal though. I am Corvo, I don't hide in the shadows – I've got a gun and sword and will use it. The great thing about it is the fact that the combat is so fast and deadly, one misstep and you die.

Video game voice actors strike has officially begun

Gurrah

@RGeefe Same with movies nowadays isn't it. Watching the credits for modern movies there's usually five minutes of CG artists, they are the ones who make the movie while the actors get millions. I think it's a shame really, devs pour as much heart into their "roles" in the project as the actors do, probably even more.

Watch: Aoife plays Morrowind for the first time, upsets Chris

Gurrah

Sigh, Morrowind, my love … I still maintain it is the most coherent and interesting RPG I've ever played, even though it's set on a volcanic island it really has some of the most believable and diverse systems in place that simulate a society and a living, breathing world. The architectural differences alone bring tears to my eyes all over again. I'm not saying it didn't have its flaws but man, do I adore Morrowind.

Titan MMO was an "utter failure" says Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan

Gurrah

@cattypat Diablo 3 is a vastly superior game now than it ever was on release, agreed, but I think the auctionhouse wasn't as bad as people made it out. It was never needed to progress, real money transactions were completely optional and, frankly, it was a neat idea to circumvent the awful trading-game that had developed in D2. That being said, I've been enjoying the current D3 or rather it's state for the last 2 years tremendously and a lot more than at launch, but the game at launch is the foundation for what we've got today and that is an ARPG that plays just slick and fluent as it gets. I can't fault them for that and a few bad design-decisions along the way.

Gurrah

@Hellotherenow Why? If you are prone to seizures I'm pretty certain you should stay well away from anything with VR in the name, I odn't think it needs a title this intense to trigger a reaction, the experience in itself is intense regardless of the game you're playing. And if you strap yourself in knowing the risks, throwing caution to the wind you deserve to fall flat on your face with 800€ strapped to it, quite honestly

Why I love Fallout 4's skeletons

Gurrah

Did you know the partyking in picture one faces a cage with skeletons and corpses that tell a different story than him just being someone who knows how to party. He was watching fellow humans tear each other apart in that cage and making quite a lot of money besides. So I stole the fuckers pre-war cash, stomped his teddy and dragged his skeleton out of its reverie and dumped it down the tracks.

Prison Architect will launch in 2015

Gurrah

Am I the only one who thinks prison architect doesn't look like a game by Introversion? One reason why I've always been drawn to their games is that shiny, faux 80's right ouf of TRON look which is totally missing from this and which is the reason I'm going to give this one a pass, regardless of how many alpha-update mails I get. Wouldn't it have been great to run a prison with wacky hackers as inmates, the year being 2145 and androids do dream of electric sheep?

Survarium could be a worthy Stalker successor - if it gets the balance right

Gurrah

I'm having a blast with the beta. The game has some of the most amazing maps I've ever seen in an FPS. Verticality doesn't even begin to describe it, and all of them have anomalous areas that you have to either avoid or gear up for in order to traverse them. The weapons need a lot of balancing in my opinion (right now choosing SMGs comes more or less down to your preference of iron-sights because the stats are so similar). But the maps... sorry I'm raving but you really have to take a look at them and appreciate how they seems like pieces of a landscape and not just a set-piece. I've got high hopes and haven't had as much fun with a an online shooter since the original CoD:MW.

The sickening side of the Steam summer sale

Gurrah

Just because Valve are doing other stuff besides and inbetween making games doesn't mean they're not making games, they've been making games all the time and all of them have been rather good - people are just grumpy because there's no news on HL but me personally, I couldn't care less anymore. Maybe there'll be something or maybe not, in the meantime I'll have a game of Dota, steal a robot buddy's head and enjoy the sale.

Deep Silver to publish crowdfunded Wasteland 2

Gurrah

@DBLue The initial proposal was to distribute the game through digital channels - that's still unnafected as digital delivery is still going to be under Inxile's full control.

No. The initial proposal included physical goods and boxed copies from day 1. Having backed the game with 250$ for receiving said box with autographs I am more than a little concerned. Deep Silver is known, at least here in Germany, for being a publisher that has always forced the newest and most troublesome copy-protection on their customers. Stalker and the later games of the Gothic series serve as an example.

Deep Silver belongs to Koch Media which is an enormous media behemoth here in Germany, I just can't believe inXile couldn't find a smaller publisher with less rigorous views about fucking over their legitimate customers.

1 1

Gurrah

@Amblin Well, the low-priority system is in place to keep the dicks out and let the rest of the community a hassle-free experience. If you're a dick and bought something in the game you'll maybe think twice next time you abandon a game or pull profanities out of your bag of insults. But I am curious why this is such a big deal to you, paid for games have always banned or suspended users from active play for violations of all kinds, paying for something doesn't automatically make you home free.

In regards to the community system, I believe you haven't played the game very much. There are chat lobbies for basically everything, from trading to your team/clan chat. I'm assuming your complaint is you don't have access to those whilst playing a game? Well guess what, you can always press the button in your top left corner and go back to the menues and your open chat channels, but why would you want to do that whilst playing a match of Dota, which is intense as it is.

Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall review

Gurrah

I actually didn't like the emphasis on stealth in the original game. Don't get me wrong the mechanics were great and it was fun but all in all it was mostly the only viable option because going in guns balzing would be penalized at the end, or rather it felt like it glancing at a mission report, which is a shame really because they went through all that trouble shipping the game with really nice melee combat and a fantastic arsenal on top. Sounds like this might be more along my alley.
